Giants Work Out Shaquille Riddick, Carlos Thompson

The Giants worked out a pair of linebackers today, according to ESPN.com’s Jordan Raanan (via Twitter): Shaq Riddick and Carlos Thompson. The auditions are a bit surprising, as Shaq Riddickthe Giants don’t appear to have any injury concerns among their linebackers. Furthermore, the team promoted rookie linebacker Deontae Skinner to the active roster yesterday.

Riddick, a former fifth-round pick, has yet to see the field after one-plus season in the NFL. The 23-year-old spent the entire 2015 campaign with the Cardinals organization, but he was released prior to this season. He briefly caught on with the Cardinals practice squad, but he was subsequently cut. Riddick had six sacks during his senior season at West Virginia.

Thompson, 24, went undrafted out of Ole Miss in 2015. The former defensive end spent all of 2015 with the Texans, but he was waived in late August. Thompson had 29 tackles during his senior season at Mississippi.

Giants To Sign Coty Sensabaugh

With injuries in the secondary, the Giants are bringing in reinforcements. Cornerback Coty Sensabaugh has agreed to a one-year deal with Big Blue, according to ESPN.com’s Adam Caplan (on Twitter). To make room, the Giants will waive cornerback Michael Hunter (Twitter link via Art Stapleton of The Record). Coty Sensabaugh (vertical)

Top Giants cornerbacks Eli Apple and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie are both dealing with groin injuries. Apple lasted only seven plays before exiting the game early. Rodgers-Cromartie played through the injury, but he was clearly hampered by it as the Giants lost 23-17. As of this writing, it is not clear whether they will be ready to go on Sunday when the Giants take on the Ravens.

Sensabaugh joined the Rams this offseason on a three-year, $14.5MM deal. However, he was cut by Los Angeles after appearing in just three games. A fourth-round Titans pick in 2012, Sensabaugh worked his way into Tennessee’s starting lineup in 2015. He started 15 games last season and apparently showed the Rams enough to warrant a sizable free agent deal. Needless to say, Les Snead & Co. would like to have a do-over on that deal.

Giants Work Out Bryan Stork, Other OL

The Giants worked out several free agent offensive lineman today, as the club took at look at Bryan StorkJosh LeRibeus, Khaled Holmes, and Daniel Munyer according to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com (Twitter links)."<strong

In late August, Stork was supposedly on the verge of being released by the Patriots. However, the Redskins got word that Stork was about to be cut and worked out a trade with the Patriots. Hours later, it was learned that Stork was thinking about retirement. The Redskins convinced Stork to continue playing football, but he wound up failing the physical. Ultimately, the trade was rescinded, the Redskins lost the backup center (or maybe even starting center) they desperately needed, and the Patriots lost out on getting a conditional seventh-round pick.

LeRibeus, 26, was selected by Washington in the third round (71st overall) in the 2012 draft. The SMU product played in just 12 games, including one start, during his first three years in the NFL, but was thrust into action last season when starting center Kory Lichtensteiger missed a good chunk of the year due to a neck injury. Despite accruing that experience, LeRibeus was released at final cutdowns.

A fourth-round Colts pick in 2013, Holmes started seven games with Indianapolis last season. But the Colts cut Holmes in May after the first-round selection of Ryan Kelly. Holmes played in 17 games during his three-year stay with the team, starting nine. He signed on with the Bears during the summer, but didn’t make it through to Chicago’s 53-man roster.

Giants Won’t Sign Safety Before MNF

The Giants have extremely thin at safety thanks to a multitude of injuries — so much so that they’ve been using offensive players in the secondary during practice — but the club won’t make a free agent addition until Tuesday at the earliest, according to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY."<strong

With Nat Berhe and Darian Thompson already listed as out for Monday night’s contest against the Vikings, the Giants will roll with undrafted rookie Andrew Adams opposite Landon Collins in the defensive backfield. Veteran Leon Hall, a cornerback by nature, could also help out at safety, while wide receiver Dwayne Harris could also be called on to play in the back end if the situation becomes dire, per Vacchiano.

New York wants to see how Adams plays on Monday night, as well as give their injured safeties a chance to heal before adding an outside option, a source told Vacchiano. But with Thompson already looking doubtful for Week 5, it seems likely that the Giants will need to sign a free agent. Over the past week, they’ve worked out Donte Whitner (link), Shamiel Gary (link), Will Allen (link), and Jeron Johnson (link).

Giants To Work Out Will Allen, Jeron Johnson

Add another pair of safeties to the Giants’ growing list of auditionees. According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport (via Twitter), the Giants will workout veteran defensive backs Will Allen and Jeron Johnson tomorrow. We learned yesterday that the team was also going to take a look at former Pro Bowl safety Donte Whitner and former undrafted free agent Shamiel Gary.

Will AllenAllen, 34, is the oldest of the bunch, although the veteran did have a career year for the Steelers in 2015. The 12-year veteran started 13 games, collecting career-highs in tackles (80), sacks (four), forced fumbles (two) and passes defended (eight). Allen has only missed 17 games throughout his career, so he’d certainly add some dependability to a depleted Giants safety corps.

Johnson has bounced around a bit since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2011. The five-year veteran had one of his best seasons with the Redskins in 2015, compiling a career-high 27 tackles. The 28-year-old caught on with the Chiefs this offseason, but he was ultimately released in early September.

The Giants secondary has been struggling with injuries. Safeties Nat Berhe and Darian Thompson are both battling various ailments and are unlikely to play on Monday night. PFR’s Dallas Robinson noted that cornerback Leon Hall could easily fill in, but the veteran will likely be required to play his natural position considering the injuries to cornerbacks Eli Apple and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
