Eagles Work Out Stanford Prospects Kevin Hogan, Devon Cajuste, Blake Martinez
Eagles Schedule Carson Wentz Workout
- The Eagles plan to work out Wentz on Thursday, ESPN.com’s Adam Caplan tweets. Philadelphia’s brass observed Goff during a private workout on Monday. While these two passers have become the consensus top two quarterback prospects, Caplan hears from several NFL coaches and executives that Goff is better equipped to come in and contribute immediately (Twitter link).
Eagles Working Out Jared Goff
- The Eagles invested significant money in a pair of quarterbacks this month, signing Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel to new contracts, but that doesn’t mean the team has entirely ruled out the possibility of drafting one early. Per John Middlekauff of 95.7 The Game (Twitter link), Philadelphia is doing its homework on Jared Goff, working out the Cal QB in Berkeley today.
- Writing for PhiladelphiaEagles.com, Tony Pauline reports that he has spoken to insiders who believe the Titans are considering Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa with the No. 1 overall pick. The general consensus is that Ole Miss offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil will come off the board first overall, but some of Pauline’s sources believe it’s a “coin flip between Tunsil and Bosa” at this point.
Eagles To Visit With Dak Prescott
- Dak Prescott will work out for the Broncos and other teams in early April, according to Chase Goodbread of NFL.com. The former Mississippi State standout rushed for more than 800 yards in both his sophomore and junior campaigns. Cowboys quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson and Cardinals QBs boss Freddie Kitchens trekked to Starkville, Miss., to work out Prescott this week as well. Following his Broncos workout, Prescott will visit the Bills and Eagles, Goodbread reports.
Eagles Sign Rueben Randle
THURSDAY, 8:30am: Randle’s one-year deal actually only has a base value of $1.025MM, tweets Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer. $500K of that total is fully guaranteed, and the contract can be worth $3MM+ via incentives.
WEDNESDAY, 4:11pm: The Eagles announced that they have signed Rueben Randle to a one-year deal. Agent Vincent Taylor of Elite Loyalty tells Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter) that the deal is worth more than $3MM with $500K guaranteed.
Randle, who will turn 25 in May, was one of the youngest unrestricted free agents on the market this offseason. The receiver put up solid numbers during his last few years in New York, though his up-and-down play was a source of frustration for some fans. He set career highs in 2014 with 71 receptions and 938 yards, then caught a career-best eight touchdowns in 2015, to go along with 57 catches and 797 yards.
The Giants were said to be concerned about Randle’s work ethic and his “desire to be great,” per one report from Jordan Raanan of the Star-Ledger. That report gained some validity this offseason as the Giants didn’t make much of an effort to re-sign him.
This year’s crop of free agent wide receivers was rather underwhelming on the whole, but Randle came in as our No. 4 player at the position. In front of Randle, we had Marvin Jones, Travis Benjamin, and Rishard Matthews. Randle’s No. 4 ranking put him ahead of players like Anquan Boldin, Jermaine Kearse, Mohamed Sanu, Marques Colston, Brandon LaFell, James Jones, and Andre Johnson.
Before signing with the Eagles, Randle drew some interest from the Rams.

Chip Kelly: Howie Roseman Constructed Maxwell, Murray Deals; Marcus Smith To Move To End
Chip Kelly told Philadelphia-area media, including Jeff McLane of Philly.com, he didn’t communicate directly with Howie Roseman last season before being fired by the Eagles. The current 49ers coach said owner Jeffrey Lurie constructed an arrangement where the then-demoted Roseman sent messages to the then-empowered Kelly through player personnel VP Ed Marynowitz.
Kelly also asserted he didn’t control the contracts given to Byron Maxwell and DeMarco Murray, with the three-year Eagles coach telling media Roseman, who has since traded both players, constructed those deals.
Here’s some more on the Eagles and news from some additional NFC teams.
- Former Eagles first-round linebacker Marcus Smith will move to defensive end in Jim Schwartz‘s 4-3 scheme, Zach Berman of Philly.com reports. Doug Pederson told media, including Berman, his linebackers right now will consist of Mychal Kendricks on the weak side, Jordan Hicks in the middle and Nigel Bradham on the strong side.
Eagles To Host Cyrus Jones
- Ex-Alabama cornerback/kick returner Cyrus Jones has a full itinerary, with visits with the Ravens, Eagles, Bills and Saints lined up, Wilson reports (on Twitter). Jones also has private workouts with the Buccaneers and Panthers scheduled, per Wilson.
Doug Pederson To Use Fullback In 2016
- Eagles coach Doug Pederson says he likes the fullback position and even though he doesn’t have a true fullback on the roster, he plans on looking at Trey Burton as an option, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer tweets.
Eagles Owner Wants to Draft More QBs
- The Eagles made significant financial commitments to Sam Bradford and Chase Daniel earlier this month, but owner Jeffrey Lurie indicated that he wants to draft a quarterback at least every other year, per Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer (Twitter link). The Eagles haven’t selected a QB since taking Matt Barkley in the fourth round of the 2013 draft.
Eagles Interested In Ezekiel Elliott?
- Eagles GM Howie Roseman suggested on Monday that the idea of teams being able to land a productive running back in the late rounds of the draft or in undrafted free agency is overblown. Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer examines Roseman’s comments about the rarity of finding a “special talent” at the position, exploring whether they might hint at a potential first-round selection of Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott.
