Jets Place S Tony Adams On IR
The Jets placed veteran safety Tony Adams on injured reserve, per a team announcement.
Adams, 26, suffered a groin injury in New York’s Week 15 loss to the Jaguars. With only three games left in the regular season and the Jets eliminated from the playoffs, the fifth-year safety will not return this year. He appeared in 12 games this season with a 61% snap share, representing a drop from bigger roles in 2023 and 2024. He still ranks sixth on the team with 49 tackles and five passes defended.
Andre Cisco underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in November and Isaiah Oliver was placed on IR earlier this week, so the Jets will have to look elsewhere to fill their safety snaps next to rookie Malachi Moore. That wil likely be undrafted rookie Dean Clark, as the team’s other two safeties, Jarius Monroe and Keidron Smith have yet to play a defensive snap this season.
Adams was playing on a $3.26MM RFA tag this season and will hit free agency this offseason for the first time. The mid-level safety market has not been especially strong in recent years, so Adams may not see a significant pay increase on his next contract.
In a corresponding move, the Jets signed defensive tackle Payton Page from their practice squad. The undrafted rookie was elevated to the game day roster in Weeks 8 and 10 but only played five snaps on defense and nine on special teams. He will be the sixth defensive tackle on the 53-man roster, but the Jets could give him some playing time as they evaluate their young players heading into the offseason.
Jets Place DB Isaiah Oliver On IR
Isaiah Oliver‘s season has come to an end. The Jets placed the defensive back on injured reserve today, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Oliver suffered a knee injury during the second quarter of yesterday’s loss to the Jaguars. While the safety was initially deemed questionable, he didn’t end up returning to the game. Now, his season has effectively ended with his placement on IR.
Oliver joined the Jets ahead of the 2024 campaign and got into about half of his team’s defensive snaps last season, finishing with 57 tackles, a sack, and three passes defended. He’s started only two of his 14 appearances in 2025 while seeing a drop in his defensive reps. Still, he’s been a mainstay on special teams, and his season will end with him having compiled 55 tackles and three passes defended.
The Jets have shuffled Oliver around the defense this season, with the veteran spending time at safety, cornerback, and in the box. With Tony Adams nursing a groin injury, the Jets may need to get creative with their secondary in Week 16. Qwan’tez Stiggers (62), Jordan Clark (45), and Dean Clark (31) all saw season-highs in snaps during yesterday’s loss, and that trio will likely be in line for an expanded role on Sunday.
To help make up for the lost depth, the Jets did add a healthy body today. ESPN’s Rich Cimini reports that the team signed defensive back Keidron Smith off the Broncos practice squad. The former UDFA got into nine games for Denver last season, collecting seven tackles while seeing the majority of his playing time on special teams.

Fullback Michael Burton won’t play for the Broncos this season, as Sean Payton revealed that the veteran suffered a hamstring injury that required surgery (per Chris Tomasson of the Denver Gazette). The 33-year-old appeared in every game for Denver over the past two seasons, garnering reps in about 17 percent of his team’s offensive snaps and 63 percent of his team’s special teams snaps. Over that span, Burton collected 90 yards from scrimmage on 27 touches, and he’s added another 10 special teams stops.
A number of these players could land back on the practice squad. Assuming they pass through waivers, it sounds like the following players are destined for Denver’s practice squad: wideout Michael Bandy (per Mike Klis of 9News in Denver), offensive lineman Joe Michalski (per Klis), offensive lineman Calvin Throckmorton (per Klis), cornerback Jaden Robinson (per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston), and cornerback Reese Taylor (per Tomasson).

Toney is set to make his debut for the regular season. The former first-round pick out of Florida has had a rocky first four years in the league, despite coming away with two Super Bowl rings in Kansas City. He was signed to the Browns’ practice squad just after the season opener and will be eligible to see game action with Cleveland in Week 11.
O’Donnell was added to the 49ers’ practice squad earlier this week given the chance of Mitch Wishnowsky missing time. The latter is now on injured reserve, ensuring at least a four-game absence. O’Donnell, 32, is a veteran of 145 games but Week 11 will mark his first regular season action since 2022.
NFL Practice Squad Updates: 11/14/24
Today’s practice squad moves:
Denver Broncos
- Signed: S Keidron Smith
The Broncos quickly reunited with Keidron Smith after the safety was cut from the active roster the other day. Smith has appeared in eight games for Denver this season, collecting six tackles while primarily playing on special teams.
NFL Practice Squad Updates: 11/13/24

The 49ers continue to deal with injuries on special teams. As a result, they’re bringing in the 33-year-old veteran out of Miami (FL). O’Donnell spent eight years in Chicago as the Bears’ primary punter before playing a season in Green Bay. If Mitch Wishnowsky‘s back injury forces him to miss game time, O’Donnell could see his first NFL action since 2022.
