Tony Jefferson Expects To Remain With Cardinals
- Restricted free agent safety Tony Jefferson expects to sign his tender and return to the Cardinals, as he tells Arizona Sports 98.5 FM (link via Vince Marotta of ArizonaSports.com). “I wouldn’t think so,” said Jefferson when asked if he might be leave for another club. “You don’t want to get yourself locked into long-term deals where you don’t even like your salary, and you’re unrestricted next year, so you have a chance to make more money.” Jefferson reportedly drew interest from the Texans and the Raiders over the past month or so, but ultimately never saw an official offer, so he’ll likely head back to the desert on a one-year, $1.671MM deal. Restricted free agents have until April 22 to sign offer sheets.

Tyrann Mathieu Acknowledges Extension Talks Could Be Tricky; Team Books Germain Ifedi Workout
- Rehabbing from the torn ACL he sustained in Week 15, Tyrann Mathieu said he would prefer to stay with the Cardinals long-term but acknowledges the negotiation could be tricky, with the versatile defensive back wanting a top-end contract but at a time when he’s coming off a second knee surgery, Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com writes in an expansive piece. “They have concerns, which is understandable,” Mathieu told Prisco. “I’ve had two knee surgeries. At the same time, they know who I am as a teammate, as a football player, what I mean to the community and what I can do on the football field. The easiest thing is to pay me as a safety. But if [Patrick Peterson‘s] guy goes down, I have to check Pat’s guy. For me, it’s about me being compensated for everything I do.” In late February, we heard the contract-year safety and the Cardinals were discussing an extension, but nothing has emerged from those talks as of yet.
- Germain Ifedi has a busy schedule upcoming after performing for teams at Texas A&M’s pro day Wednesday. The Aggies’ latest tackle prospect has a slew of visits and workouts booked, WalterFootball.com’s Tony Pauline reports. Ifedi’s visit itinerary features summits with the Lions, Panthers, Bears and Texans after having already met with the Titans and Dolphins. The Cardinals, Buccaneers, Cowboys, Panthers, Texans and Falcons have scheduled workouts with Ifedi.

West Rumors: 49ers, Raiders, Las Vegas

Still, the 49ers are trying to assess exactly what a move from No. 7 to No. 1 would cost them and they’re also unsure of whether they really need to move up in the draft. San Francisco is believed to be targeting a quarterback and it’s possible that either Jared Goff or Carson Wentz will be there at No. 7.
Here’s more from the West divisions:
- More and more NFL owners are warming up to the idea of the Raiders playing in Las Vegas, according to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report (video link). When asked about the possibility of the Raiders moving to Las Vegas in March, commissioner Roger Goodell didn’t close the door on the possibility of having an NFL franchise there.
