Jaguars To Sign RB Dare Ogunbowale
The Jaguars are signing free agent running back Dare Ogunbowale, according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times (Twitter link). Released by the Buccaneers last week after they signed fellow running back Leonard Fournette, Ogunbowale didn’t last long on the open market.
Jacksonville, of course, was the club that released Fournette, and it will now add Ogunbowale to a backfield that also includes Chris Thompson, Devine Ozigbo, and undrafted rookie free agent James Robinson, the latter of whom is listed as the nominal starter for Week 1.
Ogunbowale’s skill set would seem to overlap with that of Thompson. Both are running backs who excel in the passing game — the 26-year-old Ogunbowale caught 35 passes in 2019 on just 361 offensive snaps, but rushed just 11 times for 17 yards.
An undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin in 2017, Ogunbowale will likely contribute immediately on the Jaguars’ special teams unit. He was a core special teamer for the Buccaneers last season, playing more than 60% of Tampa Bay’s ST snaps.
Prior to signing with Jacksonville, Ogunbowale visited the Raiders, tweets Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Las Vegas was on the lookout for another pass-catching back after trading rookie Lynn Bowden to the Dolphins last week.
Jaguars Promote Mike Glennon
The Jaguars have promoted Mike Glennon from the practice squad to the active roster, per a club announcement. Glennon, who will serve as the team’s third quarterback behind Gardner Minshew and rookie Jake Luton, will take the place of linebacker Quincy Williams, who has been placed on IR. 
Luton, a sixth-round pick, pulled off a training camp upset over Glennon and Joshua Dobbs. Still, the Jaguars didn’t want to let the 30-year-old get away. After dropping Glennon from the roster, they quickly scooped him up and stashed him on the practice squad. It’s pretty unusual to see a player with Glennon’s experience on the p-squad, but this is an unusual year, to say the least. The Eagles just made a similar move to backstop their QBs by signing 41-year-old Josh McCown to their practice squad for extra insurance under center.
Glennon has attempted just 31 passes over the last two years combined. For his career, he’s logged 22 starts, 36 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions.
In related moves, the Jags released cornerback Tramaine Brock from IR while adding defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale and former Eagles cornerback Sidney Jones to the taxi squad.
Mike Glennon Joins Jaguars’ Practice Squad
Mike Glennon missed the Jaguars’ final roster cut, but he’s found a home on Jacksonville’s practice squad, per a club announcement. The 30-year-old quarterback will be joined by former Washington wide receiver Trey Quinn, plus 14 other players to reach the max. Here’s the full list:

Glennon seemed like a natural choice to backup young starter Gardner Minshew, but he ultimately lost out to sixth-round pick Jake Luton. The veteran has 22 starts to his credit, but he’s been relegated to a backup at this stage of his career. Since entering the league, Glennon has thrown 36 touchdowns with 20 interceptions. Over the last two years, he’s thrown just 31 passes in total.
The Jaguars’ drop to the 53-man limit also included the release of fellow QB Joshua Dobbs, who was quickly scooped up by his old friends in Pittsburgh. Talented veteran cornerback Tramaine Brock was also pulled from the active roster thanks to a season-ending injury.
Washington Signs CB Aaron Colvin To Practice Squad
Aaron Colvin opted against lingering in free agency ahead of the 2020 season. The veteran slot cornerback — a Washington cut Saturday — agreed to stay in the nation’s capital, joining Washington’s practice squad.
A four-year Jaguars cog, Colvin signed a lucrative deal to join the Texans in 2018. He spent a season as Houston’s slot cornerback, but after the Texans’ final-seconds loss to the Saints in Week 1 of 2019, the team made Colvin a scapegoat and accepted a dead-money hit to cut him.
Washington claimed Colvin on waivers and used him in six games. This season’s Washington squad, however, did not include the 28-year-old cornerback. He will work as an emergency player and as one of the team’s veteran P-squad staffers.
Former 49ers first-round guard Joshua Garnett, a late-offseason Washington addition, also opted to avoid another long-term free agency stay. He signed with the Washington practice squad. Given the injury trouble Washington has experienced on its offensive line in recent years, Garnett may end up seeing game action for the first time since 2018.

Jaguars Meet With Devonta Freeman
The Jaguars will meet with Devonta Freeman over the weekend, according to a source who spoke with ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter (on Twitter). If all goes well, Freeman will fill the void left by the release of Leonard Fournette.

The Jaguars weren’t interested in keeping Fournette at a $4MM+ rate. Instead, they decided to move forward with Chris Thompson, Ryquell Armstead, Devine Ozigbo, and James Robinson as their top tailbacks. Unfortunately, Armstead is on the COVID-19 list, leaving them extra thin in the backfield.
Freeman hasn’t look like his old self in a while. The five-year, $41.25MM deal he signed with the Falcons in 2017 did not pan out. Injuries limited him to just two games in 2018 and, last year, he averaged just 3.6 yards per carry in 14 games. Meanwhile, Football Outsiders placed him just 41st among 43 running backs in success rate.
The Jaguars could give Freeman an opportunity to redeem himself and inch to the form he showed in 2016, his last Pro Bowl season. In that campaign, Freeman ran for 4.8 yards per try and scored 13 all-purpose touchdowns.
Freeman’s last known offer came from the Seahawks, who tried to pitch him on a one-year, $3MM deal.

Washington added Colvin last year, doing so after the Texans cut him early in the season. The veteran has played six seasons, seeing action with the Jaguars, Texans and Washington. He will head back to free agency. As with Rodgers, who was the most notable tight end on Washington’s roster entering camp. Following the exits of Jordan Reed and Vernon Davis — and Thaddeus Moss‘ IR trip — Washington does not feature much of note at the position.
Mr. Irrelevant in 2018, Quinn latched on with Washington for two seasons. He operated as Washington’s slot receiver for a time, but with a new regime running the show now, Quinn will head to the waiver wire. However, he would certainly profile as a player who could be added to Washington’s 16-man practice squad. Garnett would as well.
The team added Garnett during training camp, but the former first-round pick has never managed to carve out a consistent role as a pro.

Armstead is one of six players currently on a COVID-19 list around the league. He was expected to lead a Jaguars running back committee, following Leonard Fournette‘s departure. Players can be removed from the COVID list at any point. Armstead’s status will leave Devine Ozigbo and rookie UDFA James Robinson as the Jags’ running backs. This will be a team to monitor for waiver-claim adds at running back.
Nickerson, Giles-Harris and Orzich spent time on the Jaguars’ 53-man roster last season. The players jettisoned Saturday will become practice squad candidates, at least the bulk of them, on Sunday. Teams can begin signing players to their taxi squads Sunday, and after years of P-squads residing at 10 players, they will be 16-man units in this unique season.
Jaguars Cut QBs Mike Glennon, Joshua Dobbs
The Jaguars are moving on from a pair of backup quarterback contenders. NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports (via Twitter) that Jacksonville is cutting Mike Glennon and Joshua Dobbs.
This means rookie sixth-rounder Jake Luton is currently the only quarterback on the depth chart behind starter Gardner Minshew. However, as Rapoport notes, the team could end up inviting back one of Glennon or Dobbs based on how the final roster “shakes out.”
The 30-year-old Glennon seemed like a natural choice to backup Minshew. However, it’s been almost seven years since the veteran got an extended look as a starter. Glennon spent the 2018 season with the Cardinals and 2019 season with the Raiders, appearing in four total games. During those cameos, Glennon completed 21 of his 31 pass attempts for 230 yards and two scores. In total, the former third rounder has appeared in 29 games (22 starts), tossing 36 touchdowns vs. 20 interceptions.
Dobbs, 25, spent the first two-plus seasons of his career with the Steelers, including a 2018 campaign where he completed six of his 12 pass attempts for 43 yards and one pick in five games. He was traded to Jacksonville last September for a 2020 fifth-rounder following an injury to Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles. Of course, Minshew stepped up as the starter, and Dobbs never got into a game with Jacksonville.
Jaguars To Place CB Tramaine Brock On IR
The Jacksonville youth movement continues to plow full steam ahead. The Jaguars will place cornerback Tramaine Brock on injured reserve and end his season, according to Greg Auman of The Athletic (Twitter link).
The long-time veteran was one of very few older players on the hollowed-out roster. The Jags have completely stripped down the team, especially the defense, over the past year. The secondary is going to look completely unrecognizable after former starters Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye were both traded within the last year.
Jacksonville is expected to start rookie first-round pick C.J. Henderson and 24-year-old Tre Herndon on the outside. They’re being thrown into the fire without much help around them. Brock has bounced around the league in recent years, spending time with six different teams over the past four seasons.
The 2010 UDFA spent the first seven years of his career in San Francisco, becoming a reliable starter with the 49ers and landing a couple of decent paydays. He started seven games with the Cardinals last year and four with the Titans, also starting during Tennessee’s run to the AFC Championship Game. He turned 32 last month.
