Mike Glennon Joins Jaguars’ Practice Squad
Mike Glennon missed the Jaguars’ final roster cut, but he’s found a home on Jacksonville’s practice squad, per a club announcement. The 30-year-old quarterback will be joined by former Washington wide receiver Trey Quinn, plus 14 other players to reach the max. Here’s the full list:
- RB Nathan Cottrell
- TE Ben Ellefson
- LB Nate Evans
- TE Matt Flanagan
- LB Joe Giles-Harris
- WR Terry Godwin
- WR Josh Hammond
- CB Amari Henderson
- CB Sidney Jones
- OL K.C. McDermott
- OL Austen Pleasants
- DL Caraun Reid
- OL Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms
- P Brandon Wright
Glennon seemed like a natural choice to backup young starter Gardner Minshew, but he ultimately lost out to sixth-round pick Jake Luton. The veteran has 22 starts to his credit, but he’s been relegated to a backup at this stage of his career. Since entering the league, Glennon has thrown 36 touchdowns with 20 interceptions. Over the last two years, he’s thrown just 31 passes in total.
The Jaguars’ drop to the 53-man limit also included the release of fellow QB Joshua Dobbs, who was quickly scooped up by his old friends in Pittsburgh. Talented veteran cornerback Tramaine Brock was also pulled from the active roster thanks to a season-ending injury.

AFC Rumors: OBJ, Patriots, Miller, Raiders
Closing out the worst season of his six-year career, from a per-game production standpoint, Odell Beckham Jr. did not say whether he wants to be part of the 2020 Browns. He’s under contract through 2023.
“I couldn’t sit here and tell you whether I’m going to be here, want to be here, don’t want to be here,” Beckham said, via Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com, adding that Jarvis Landry‘s presence has energized him about being with the Browns. “This is exactly where I’m at now and I wouldn’t rather be anywhere else. God has a plan. In the offseason, everything will figure itself out. I feel like I’ve been here before, answering questions about the next team when I’m on a team already. That’s just something I’m going to tune out for right now. Catch me in the offseason and we’ll see what happens.”
Despite Beckham’s disappointing year, the Browns will surely attempt to see if their recent trade acquisition can build chemistry with Baker Mayfield and bounce back in 2020. Beckham’s contract having no more guaranteed money on it, thanks to the Giants taking that on, would make the three-time Pro Bowler an interesting trade piece — if this situation did progress to that point. Beckham is due $14MM in 2020.
Here is the latest from the AFC:
- Tom Brady sought a longer commitment from the Patriots this year, but given one-year pay bump the sides agreed on, NBC Sports Boston’s Tom Curran expects the iconic quarterback to depart in 2020. Brady’s age figures to be a sticking point for Bill Belichick signing off on a multiyear deal, per Curran, just as it seemed to be in recent years. A scenario where Brady tries to play until age 45 elsewhere would obviously create a major need for the Pats, who traded Brady’s would-be heir apparent to the 49ers two years ago, and would thrust them to the center of what will be a complicated QB marketplace.
- As for Antonio Brown coming back to the Patriots to aid the defending Super Bowl champions’ receiving situation, that seems next to impossible. The free agent wide receiver shared a social media post (Twitter link) questioning Robert Kraft‘s desire to win (and one that referenced his alleged acts in the Florida spa sting). Brown, who has filed grievances against the Patriots, figures to be one of the most controversial free agents in NFL history in 2020.
- Von Miller is battling an MCL sprain, one that forced him to miss his first game since he suffered an ACL tear in December 2013. The Broncos‘ star pass rusher is iffy for Sunday’s game against the Texans. The ninth-year linebacker indicated (via Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic, subscription required) he should not play until he can utilize his array of pass-rushing moves, pointing to him missing at least one more week.
- The Raiders worked out tight ends Matt Flanagan, Pharoah McKever and Bryce Williams this week, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle tweets. Oakland also auditioned tight end Cole Wick, who booked the emergency tight end gig.

Redskins Get Down To 53
And here it is, the 32nd and final team’s roster cuts. Their most notable release was the previously announced cutting of former first-round pick Josh Doctson. Of the stuff that’s new, not much is shocking. A couple of years ago, 2017 fourth-round running back Samaje Perine was hyped up as a potential future starter. The Oklahoma product, who had 603 rushing yards as a rookie, was cut today.
Veteran receiver Brian Quick, who had 564 yards with the Rams in 2016, was let go as well. Washington also parted ways with cornerback Adonis Alexander, a Virginia Tech product who they drafted in the sixth round of the 2018 Supplemental Draft.

Redskins Waive Kapri Bibbs, Make Several Other Moves
The Redskins are still alive in the NFC playoff race, but their hopes are dwindling fast as they’ve dealt with an onslaught of injuries. Now on the eve of their must win game against the Jaguars, Washington is shuffling the bottom of their roster.
The team waived running back Kapri Bibbs and defensive end Marcus Smith, and promoted tight end Matt Flanagan and defensive back Joshua Holsey from the practice squad to take their spots on the roster, the team announced via Twitter. They also placed long snapper Nick Sundberg on injured reserve, and signed long snapper Andrew East to replace him.
Bibbs has actually received some pretty significant playing time at times over the past two seasons, so his release is a bit of a surprise. This year he had carried 20 times for 101 yards and three touchdowns, and caught 13 passes for 102 yards and another touchdown. Smith, a first round pick of the Eagles back in 2014, just was signed a couple of weeks ago.
Flanagan is an undrafted rookie from Pitt who is primarily a blocking tight end, and Holsey was a seventh round pick of the Redskins in 2017. Flanagan was likely promoted because starting tight end Jordan Reed is going to miss some time with a toe injury. If the Redskins lose to Jacksonville and fall out of playoff contention, it’s quite possible both youngsters receive some run down the stretch.
