NFL Reinstates CB Tyrique McGhee

Tyrique McGhee is now free to sign with any team. The NFL has reinstated the free agent cornerback, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport (via Twitter).

Back in April, McGhee was hit with a five-game ban for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. This was the second suspension of the young cornerback’s career; during the 2020 campaign, he was suspended two games for the same violation.

McGhee had a standout career during his time at Georgia, appearing in 50 total games. He joined the Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2020, and he spent his entire rookie season on the team’s practice squad.

The Rams released him shortly after he was slapped with his second suspension. Now, the 23-year-old will look to restart his career elsewhere.

Rams Claim LB Justin Hollins, Add 15 To Practice Squad

The Rams left their roster at 52 players after cutdown day, and the team filled the roster spot with a player familiar with their new defensive coordinator.

Los Angeles submitted a waiver claim for Justin Hollins, a linebacker whom Denver cut Saturday, and the 2019 draft pick will rejoin Brandon Staley. The Broncos used Hollins at both inside and outside linebacker spots last season; Staley coached Denver’s outside linebackers in 2019.

This will bring another ex-Staley pupil to L.A. The Rams already signed Leonard Floyd, whom Staley coach in Chicago, to be a starter. Hollins, a fifth-round pick out of Oregon, profiles as a depth piece.

The Rams also set their practice squad Sunday. All 15 players were in camp with the Rams this year, so for those hoping to go in fresh for the Hard Knocks finale next week, this is the spoiler warning.

Here is how the Rams’ practice squad looks:

Rams Sign 20 UDFAs

The Rams announced their undrafted free agent class Saturday night, and it’s a big one.

The biggest name on the list is Perkins the former Virginia quarterback, and we wrote about his signing in more detail here. The Rams previously only had John Wolford on the roster behind Jared Goff, so it makes sense they signed Perkins as well as Love the former San Jose State passer.

Los Angeles signed five receivers, with three of them coming from the FCS level. After previously having a career-high of 143 yards Jackson exploded out of nowhere to put up 1,023 yards and 11 touchdowns with Syracuse last year. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein had him pegged as a fifth-rounder and most analysts had him getting drafted, so this could be a nice pickup for Sean McVay.
