Browns Down To 53

The Browns have officially cut down to a 53-man roster, according to a team announcement.

The team’s cuts include receivers Taylor Gabriel and Marlon Moore. Undrafted out of Abilene Christian in 2014, the 5-foot-8, 176-pound Gabriel appeared in 29 of a possible 32 regular-season games with the Browns and started four. He amassed 64 receptions for 862 yards and a touchdown during that time, with most of those numbers coming as a rookie. Gabriel caught 36 passes on 72 targets and averaged a prolific 17.1 yards per reception in his first year, but that figure fell to a paltry 8.6 on his 28 grabs in 2015.

Moore, a six-year veteran, previously saw action with the Dolphins and 49ers before joining the Browns last season. He pulled in only seven receptions in 14 games in Cleveland.

Minor NFL Transactions: 8/20/16

Here are today’s minor moves:

  • With the Teddy Bridgewater sidelined by a minor shoulder issue, Shaun Hill taking a “veteran’s day” off practice, and Taylor Heinecke out for the time being with a foot injury, the Vikings were in need of another camp arm, and they’ve added one today. The club agreed to terms with Brad Sorensen, who was waived by the Chargers earlier this year, and cut running back Kevin Monangai, according to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press.
  • The Falcons announced that they’ve waived kicker Nick Rose, clearing a roster spot after signing veterans Shayne Graham and Sergio Brown earlier today.

Earlier updates:

  • The Browns signed running back Jahwan Edwards, Nate Ulrich of Ohio.com reports. A second-year UDFA out of Ball State, Edwards spent time on the Dolphins, Falcons and Jaguars’ practice squads last season. Miami waived him just after the 2016 draft.
  • Down Bruce Gradkowski to injury, the Steelers signed Bryn Renner, the team announced. The Steelers also added guard Antoine Everett, cut Christian Powell and waived/injured center Valerian Ume-Ezeoke. Renner spent two months with the Chargers earlier this year, but the Bolts’ claim of Zach Mettenberger resulted in the former North Carolina UDFA being jettisoned. The 26-year-old Renner spent much of 2015 with the Ravens, spending the offseason in Baltimore and, after being cut, catching on with the team’s practice squad in December.

Dolphins Waive Damontre Moore

The Dolphins announced (via Twitter) that they have waived defensive end Damontre Moore, a former third-round pick. In related moves, the team has also bid farewell to running back Jahwan Edwards and wide receiver Christion Jones.Damontre Moore (vertical)

Moore, 24 in September, was taken with the No. 81 overall pick in the 2013 draft by the Giants. The Texas A&M product was unexpectedly waived by the G-Men in December of last year after getting into a skirmish with fellow defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins after failing to get free Beats by Dre headphones. That incident alone might have been met with a lesser punishment than an outright release, but it was not Moore’s only clash with team personnel. Moore was “fighting his [Giants] teammates since Day 1 of training camp,” and “yelled at” both head coach Tom Coughlin and GM Jerry Reese, according to one report.

Moore hooked on with Miami in December and appeared in three games for the Dolphins, racking up four tackles and one sack.
