Cowboys Re-Sign DT Brian Price
The Cowboys have re-signed defensive tackle Brian Price, according to Clarence Hill of the Star Telegram (on Twitter). It’s a two-year pact worth $1.35MM.
Price appeared in only eight games for Dallas before being placed on injured reserve in November. He’ll remain with the Cowboys as defensive line depth and a special teamer for now, but the team could be grooming him for bigger things in the future.
Had he not shoved an official to the ground at the University of Texas-San Antonio, Price likely would have been selected in the 2016 draft. He was not drafted due to that major red flag, but the Packers pounced on the chance to sign him to the practice squad. Before long, they elevated his taxi squad salary to $26,470 per week, well above the minimum salary of $6,900/week. He missed Green Bay’s cut in 2017, leading him to Dallas.
In other Cowboys news, tight end Jason Witten is being courted by FOX to become an analyst for Thursday Night Football.

Colts Tried To Sign Brian Price
Brian Price is a wanted man and the Packers are unwilling to lose him. Green Bay has raised the defensive tackle’s practice squad salary to $26,470/week, well above the league required minimum salary of $6,900/week, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com tweets. Price’s pay now comes out to an annual salary of $449,900, whereas the minimum comes out to $117,300 per year.

The pay bump was precipitated by the Colts trying to sign Price this week (Twitter link). Although that would have given him an opportunity to make the 53-man roster straight away, Price opted to stay with the Packers. A “few” teams have tried to sign him this year, Demovsky says.
Price, a product of University of Texas-San Antonio, made headlines for the wrong reasons in college. In the second-to-last game of the 2014 season, Price shoved an official to the ground in a fit of rage. In May, Price admitted to Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel that the incident probably cost him an opportunity to hear his name called in the 2016 draft.
“I think it was definitely a red flag,” Price said. “You know, in football, tempers flare, emotions run high. It was the heat of the moment. I didn’t know it was a ref beside me, I kind of side-swiped him and it happened to be a ref and I was like, oh, I knew I messed up. I definitely feel NFL teams took note of that.”
Now that two years have passed without further incident, teams are eager to give Price a chance on the main roster.

Packers Activate Pennel, Goodson
The Packers will be without James Starks against the Cowboys but did not promote a running back from the practice squad to help their backfield’s depth. Instead, the team activated defensive lineman Mike Pennel and cornerback Demetri Goodson, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
Granted one-game roster exemptions for both players coming off four-game suspensions, Green Bay waited a week to activate each backup contributor. The Packers’ cutting quarterback Joe Callahan earlier this week left them with an empty roster spot, and they waived defensive tackle Brian Price to clear another space, per Demovsky.
A third-year player coming off a substance-abuse suspension, Pennel made five starts for the Packers last season. He’s played in 29 games over the past two years after joining the Packers as a UDFA in 2014. The former Colorado State-Pueblo performer registered a sack, forced a fumble and made 24 tackles last season. He’s expected to join Christian Ringo and Dean Lowry among the Packers’ backups up front.
Goodson has also been a backup for the past two seasons, playing in 20 games since being taken in the sixth round last year. The former Gonzaga point guard served a four-game PED ban and will help a depleted Packers cornerback corps that’s still without Sam Shields. Opposite starter Damarious Randall is questionable, with nickel man Quinten Rollins potentially out for Week 6 as well. Both are battling groin injuries. So, Goodson could be called upon in the event the duo is unable to go.
Starks suffered a meniscus injury this week and could be out for multiple games, according to Demovsky, so Green Bay’s backfield could take on an interesting dynamic considering no other backup running back resides on the active roster. Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery could be called upon for spot-duty carries behind Eddie Lacy, Jason Wilde of ESPN.com tweets. Fullback Aaron Ripkowski is the only other active-roster ball-carrier.
Packers Promote DT Brian Price
The Packers are promoting defensive tackle Brian Price from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, as Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com tweets. In a related move, it appears that cornerback Robertson Daniel will be taking Price’s spot on the taxi squad.
Price, a product of University of Texas-San Antonio, made headlines for the wrong reasons in college. In the second-to-last game of the 2014 season, Price shoved an official to the ground in a fit of rage. In May, Price admitted to Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel that the incident probably cost him an opportunity to hear his name called in this year’s draft.
Still, despite the incident, roughly two-thirds of the league reached out to Price’s reps after the draft to express interest. The defensive tackle ultimately chose Green Bay and it appears that he chose wisely as he has found his way to the varsity roster.
