Ravens Place Brent Urban On IR-DTR
Baltimore has become the latest team to officially use its short-term IR slot, as the Ravens today placed defensive end Brent Urban on injured reserve with the designation to return, according to a press release. The club filled his roster spot by re-signing running back Terrence Magee.
Urban, 24, was selected in the fourth round of the 2014 draft by the Ravens, but missed his entire rookie campaign with a torn ACL. The Virginia product sustained a torn bicep this year, but Baltimore likes him enough and feels confident enough in his recovery that the team is willing to use its only IR-DTR slot on him.
As for Magee, assuming he makes Baltimore’s Week 1 roster, he’ll be the only undrafted free agent to stick with the team this year. He was initially waived during the Ravens’ cutdown to 53 players over the weekend.
AFC Practice Squad Updates: 9/7/15

Sunday NFL Transactions: AFC North
Listed below are the Sunday roster moves for the four AFC North teams. For the 2014 and 2015 seasons, changes were made to practice squad rules that allow teams to carry eight players instead of 10, and the eligibility requirements for those extra two spots were also loosened. You can check out our glossary entry on practice squads to brush up on those changes, as well as all the other guidelines that govern the 10-man units, whose players practice with the team but aren’t eligible to suit up on Sundays.

49ers Acquire Nick Easton From Ravens
8:51pm: Easton’s Ravens-to-49ers exchange is for a conditional seventh-round pick, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports (via Twitter).
11:51am: According to Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, Baltimore received a conditional draft pick from the Niners for Easton (Twitter link via Zrebiec).
11:20am: The Ravens have traded center Nick Easton to the 49ers, the player’s agent told Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee (via Twitter). ESPN.com’s Adam Caplan was the first to report (via Twitter) that the two teams were working on a deal involving the undrafted free agent.
The Harvard product had a solid preseason, Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun notes (via Twitter). ProFootballFocus.com advanced metrics (subscription required) show that Easton played 155 snaps this preseason. His overall grade was the highest on the entire team, and it also led all centers.
Zrebiec adds that the odds were stacked against the rookie considering the team’s depth, as John Urschel and Ryan Jensen can both play center.
Ravens Finalize 53-Man Roster
After making five moves on Friday, the Ravens completed the annual process of determining a 53-man roster by cutting 15 more players, Garrett Downing of BaltimoreRavens.com reports.
Among those released is cornerback Cassius Vaughn, who started 23 games in five seasons with the Broncos and Colts. The team waived/injured defensive linemen DeAngelo Tyson and Micajah Reynolds and sent rookie outside linebacker Zach Thompson to injured reserve.
The additional cuts are as follows:
- OLB Brennen Beyer
- WR Jeremy Butler

- G Kaleb Johnson
- OL Jah Reid
- RB Terrence Magee
- G Robert Myers
- S Nick Perry
- QB Bryn Renner
- TE Konrad Reuland

Ravens Waive Five Players
The Ravens are among the first teams to officially announce a handful of roster moves as they make their way down to 53 players from 75. According to the club (via Twitter), the following players have been waived:
- ILB Andrew Bose
- WR Daniel Brown
- T Blaine Clausell
- WR Tom Nelson
- CB Quinton Pointer
Baltimore still has a long way to go to get its roster down to 53 players. With 70 players currently in the mix, another 17 roster moves will be required by tomorrow’s deadline.
Minor NFL Transactions: 9/2/15
Here are today’s minor signings, cuts, and other transactions from around the NFL:
- The Falcons have made a change on offense, signing offensive lineman Eric Lefeld and waiving wide receiver Bernard Reedy, the team announced today in a press release. Reedy, who joined the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2014, spent last season on the team’s practice squad.
- After cutting their roster down to 74 players on Tuesday, the Jaguars have filled the lone opening by re-signing tight end Connor Hamlett, per Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union (Twitter links). O’Halloran adds that the club also reached an injury settlement with wide receiver Greg Jenkins, so he has been removed from the injured reserve list.
- The Giants also left an open spot on their 75-man roster following Tuesday’s cuts, and they’re using that spot to re-sign kicker Chris Boswell, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan (Twitter link). As Dan Graziano of ESPN.com notes (via Twitter), Josh Brown has been dealing with a leg injury, so Boswell will handle the job in New York’s final preseason game on Thursday night.
- The Ravens released linebacker Steven Means (groin) with an injury settlement, as Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun tweets.
Ravens, Bengals Cut Down To 75 Players
Two AFC North rivals, the Ravens and the Bengals, have reduced their rosters to 75 players in advance of this afternoon’s deadline, the teams announced today.
The Ravens confirmed in a press release that they’ve officially placed Dennis Pitta on the reserve/PUP list, a move we heard weeks ago was coming. The club waived offensive lineman De’Ondre Wesley to get down to 75 players on the active roster, and also cut tackle Darryl Baldwin, who had been on the reserve/NFI list.
As for the Bengals, their roster had been at 78 players after they cut Denarius Moore and eight other players on Monday. Cincinnati’s final three roster moves, according to the team (via Twitter), were placing offensive tackle Cedric Ogbuehi on the reserve/NFI list, placing linebacker Sean Porter on the reserve/PUP list, and waiving wide receiver Onterio McCalebb with an injury designation.
Ogbuehi and Porter will now have to sit out at least the first six weeks of the regular season, while McCalebb will land on the Bengals’ IR list if and when he clears waivers.

Today’s minor signings, cuts, and other moves..
