Minor NFL Transactions: 6/13/24
Here are Thursday’s minor moves:
Kansas City Chiefs
- Signed: DT Alex Gubner
- Waived: P Ryan Rehkow
Miami Dolphins
- Waived: DL Daviyon Nixon
Tennessee Titans
- Waived/injured: OL X’Zauvea Gadlin
Gubner comes to the Chiefs after winning Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year honors at Montana last season. Spending six years at the Division I-FCS program, Gubner totaled 28.5 tackles for loss during his college career. The Chiefs also have cleared the runway for Matt Araiza‘s second chance. The recently added specialist is now the only punter on Kansas City’s roster, with Rehkow signing as a UDFA in May.
A former fifth-round Panthers pick, Nixon played 14 games with his original team but did see any game action in 2023. Both the Panthers and Seahawks waived Nixon in 2022. After Nixon had spent last season out of football, the Dolphins signed him in March.

Here are Thursday’s minor moves:
Detroit Lions
- Re-signed: RB Zonovan Knight
Miami Dolphins
- Re-signed: DB Elijah Campbell, DT Daviyon Nixon
New England Patriots
- Re-signed: CB Alex Austin
New Orleans Saints
- Signed: FB Zander Horvath
Campbell was set to be a restricted free agent; this deal will bypass the tender process and keep the young defender on the team. The former UDFA has primarily been a Dolphins special-teamer, though he started one game apiece over the past two seasons. Campbell has logged at least a 69% snap share on special teams in each of the past three seasons.
Seahawks Place TE Will Dissly On IR
After staying healthy for most of the past two seasons, Will Dissly will see another injury likely end his season. The Seahawks placed the veteran tight end on IR due to a knee injury.
Dissly, who suffered major injuries during his first two NFL seasons, went down against the Chiefs on Saturday with what Pete Carroll is calling a contusion. More tests appear on tap, however. Unless the Seahawks make an unlikely voyage to the NFC championship game, Dissly will be ineligible to return this season.
Although his season is likely wrapped after 15 games, Dissly both displayed durability (15 games played) and provided considerable aid to Geno Smith‘s unexpected Pro Bowl campaign. Dissly established new career-high marks in receptions (34) and receiving yards (349), adding three touchdowns. Valued for his run-blocking ability, Dissly (60% snap rate) also played a prominent role in Ken Walker‘s rookie-year emergence.
The Seahawks re-signed Dissly on a somewhat surprising three-year, $24MM pact in March. Dissly was uncertain as to what his market would bring, but Denver and Tampa Bay also showed interest in adding him. Instead, Dissly teamed with ex-Broncos tight end Noah Fant to help Seattle’s cause post-Russell Wilson.
Dissly’s deal includes $10.3MM fully guaranteed but nearly $6MM more in injury guarantees, so it will be interesting to see if his latest setback is a significant one. The University of Washington product went down with a torn patella tendon in 2018 and was lost for much of the 2019 season after an Achilles tear. Dissly rebounded to make his way toward that nice contract in the ensuing two seasons, playing in 31 of a possible 33 games.
In addition to the Dissly transaction, the Seahawks claimed defensive lineman Isaiah Mack off waivers from the Ravens. A fourth-year former UDFA, Mack spent the past two seasons with Baltimore. Seattle also signed cornerback Xavier Crawford off its practice squad, waived D-tackle Daviyon Nixon and added corner Steven Parker to its taxi squad.

- Signed off Texans’ practice squad: T Cedric Ogbuehi
Although Ogbuehi is a former first-round pick, he has started five games since the 2018 season. He landed on Houston’s practice squad IR list earlier this month but will be part of the Jets’ scramble to reassemble their tackle depth chart after George Fant‘s IR trip. Ogbuehi’s Bengals audition seasons came back in 2016 and ’17; the Seahawks used him as a fill-in starter in four 2020 games. Ogbuehi, 30, joins Mike Remmers as Jets tackle additions this week.
The Ravens were interested in adding Luketa off the Cardinals’ practice squad, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com tweets. That looks to have prompted the Cards’ decision to move him up to their 53-man roster. The Cards drafted Luketa in this year’s seventh round (256th overall) out of Penn State.
Tennessee’s outside linebacker shuffle included waiving Tuszka, who is now with his third team this year. A former Broncos seventh-round pick, Tuszka spent the offseason with the Steelers. He will move to a Chargers team that has Joey Bosa likely to miss games after suffering what Brandon Staley called a serious groin injury.

Nixon generated significant draft buzz after his college career at Iowa. His final season with the Hawkeyes in 2020 included 5.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss, though he fell to the fifth round that year. He played sparingly as a rookie, and has met injury troubles early in his pro career. Despite the move, Carolina has a number of options to call on in a rotational role behind Derrick Brown and Matt Ioannidis.
The roster cutting by the Bengals was necessary with today being the time at which Bates’ time on the Commissioner’s Exempt List expired. The franchise-tagged safety was the final holdout of the 2022 offseason, inking his tender long past the deadline for a long-term deal to be finalized. Fully back to team practices and activities, Bates’ time on the list allowed him to ramp up at his own rate following a lengthy absence throughout the spring and summer.
Lancaster was one of several additions the Raiders made on the d-line during free agency. The former UDFA spent the first four years of his career in Green Bay, registering 10 starts in 2019. Other signings such as Bilal Nichols and Andrew Billings will see plenty of playing time along the defensive interior in his absence.
