Browns Tried Claiming Ozigbo
- The Browns got tight end Ricky Seals-Jones off waivers from the Cardinals this weekend, and they weren’t the only AFC North team interested. The Steelers submitted a claim for the Texas A&M product as well, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com (Twitter link). Seals-Jones has shown flashed during his two years in the league, but the 2017 UDFA fell out of favor with the new coaching staff in Arizona. The Steelers have Vance McDonald but not a ton behind him on the depth chart, so their interest makes some sense.
- Before he was claimed by the Jaguars, the Browns and Lions also tried to snag running back Devine Ozigbo off waivers, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Ozigbo turned in a solid preseason with the Saints, but was unable to make their final cut on Saturday. Detroit was only one spot behind Jacksonville in the waiver order, so they just barely missed getting their guy. Ozigbo is an undrafted rookie from Nebraska.
Browns Re-Sign Greg Robinson
One of the most surprising cuts of Sunday has been un-done. The Browns re-signed Greg Robinson, per the league’s transactions wire.
Robinson was, and is, expected to start at left tackle for the Browns. However, in order to reshuffle their roster, they exploited the vested-veteran loophole regarding guaranteed money. Because Robinson was not subject to the waiver wire, they were able to take advantage and come away with the 53-man roster they wanted.
The former No. 2 overall pick has not come close to living up to that draft slot, but he did well in the Browns’ first post-Joe Thomas season. He’ll look to build off of that this year following his 24-hour unemployment stretch.
Browns Add RB Eli McGuire
The Jets didn’t have a place for Elijah McGuire, but the Browns did. On Monday, the Browns filled out their taxi squad by signing the running back as well as tackle Paul Adams.
On Saturday, the Jets bumped McGuire and kept an RB group of Le’Veon Bell, Ty Montgomery, Bilal Powell, and Trenton Cannon. McGuire drew solid reviews in Jets practice over the last two years, but his career 3.3 yards per carry average isn’t much to write home about.
Here’s what the Browns’ filled out ten-man practice squad* looks like, as of this writing:
1. T Paul Adams
2. DT Brandin Bryant
3. TE Stephen Carlson
4. WR Shelton Gibson
5. LB Willie Harvey
6. S J.T. Hassell
7. CB Robert Jackson
8. RB Elijah McGuire
9. WR Derrick Willies
10. C Willie Wright

Browns To Release Greg Robinson
Projected to be the Browns’ Week 1 left tackle, Greg Robinson is now off Cleveland’s 53-man roster. The Browns are releasing the former No. 2 overall pick, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets. However, this is not expected to be much more than a procedural move.
The Browns intend to re-sign Robinson, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com adds (via Twitter). This move is almost certainly related to the vested-veteran loophole regarding guaranteed money. Robinson is still expected to be Cleveland’s left tackle starter, per Pelissero. This move will allow the Browns to reshuffle their roster without sending a non-vested veteran to the waiver wire.
Robinson re-signed with Cleveland for one year and $7MM earlier this year. He did not beat out rookie UDFA Desmond Harrison to be the team’s initial post-Joe Thomas left tackle starter but did take over that role midseason. Barring a trade, Robinson will be back with the Browns’ first-string line on Sunday.

Packers Trade Justin McCray To Browns
The Browns and Packers completed a trade just before the 53-man deadline. The Browns will acquire guard Justin McCray in exchange for a 2020 draft pick.
McCray has started in 13 of his career 25 regular season games. That includes five starts last year out of 12 appearances for the Packers.
McCray, 27, will help support the starting interior line, which is still not quite finalized. The Browns will start either incumbent Eric Kush or newcomer Wyatt Teller at the right guard spot. This week, head coach Freddie Kitchens indicated that competition is open.
“Eric is our right guard as we speak, but we haven’t even had Wyatt on the field yet,” Kitchens explained. “My first inkling would be to say yes, but we haven’t seen [Teller] on the field yet. We still have four practices to get through. We will see where it all goes. Even though training camp has ended, there is always competition. There is always going to be competition while I am here. I think you get the most out of everybody when you run it that way.”
Titans Reach 53-Man Limit
The Titans reached the 53-man limit on Saturday, mostly via cuts. They did, however, free up one roster spot by trading Taywan Taylor to the Browns.
