Jets Sign DL Ed Stinson, LB Obum Gwacham
The Jets have signed defensive lineman Ed Stinson and plucked linebacker Obum Gwacham from the Cardinals’ practice squad. To help make room, the team placed rookie outside linebacker Dylan Donahue on IR.
The Jets have the option of bringing Jalin Marshall back from suspension this week, but they’ll need to make another roster move if they want to do that. By adding the two defenders and placing Donahue on IR, the Jets are back up to the 53-man max.
Stinson, a fifth-round pick of the Cardinals in 2014, appeared in 29 games for Arizona over a three-year period. He was hampered by injuries this summer and he wound up being cut from IR last month.
Gwacham made ten appearances for the Saints over the last two years. He missed New Orleans’ final cut, but hooked on with the Cardinals’ taxi squad. He now has an opportunity to make a mark on the main roster in New York along with a fellow ex-Cardinal.
Donahue injured his elbow during Sunday’s win over the Jaguars. He’ll technically be eligible to return in December, if he recovers in time and the Jets want to go that route.

Cardinals To Promote LB Scooby Wright
In the wake of Markus Golden‘s ACL tear, the Cardinals are calling up fellow edge rusher Scooby Wright from the practice squad, a source tells Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter). In related moves, the Cardinals have signed guard/tackle Earl Watford, released guard/tackle Vinston Painter, and released wide receiver Aaron Dobson, linebacker Alani Fua, and defensive end Ed Stinson from IR.

Wright, 23, missed the Cardinals’ final cut in September but signed on with the practice squad the following day. Since then, he has been cycled through the NFL’s usual process for fringe players (promoted, cut, re-signed to practice squad, repeat). Through four weeks, he has dressed for three games.
Wright has yet to make a major impact at the NFL level, but he is well known in the area for his work at the University of Arizona. In 2014, Wright tallied an eye-popping 163 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, and six forced fumbles. Unfortunately, he was slowed by injuries in 2015 and his draft stock suffered as a result. The Browns took him with one of the final picks in the draft, but he found his way to the Cardinals late last year.
Cardinals Down To 53
The Cardinals announced their full slate of cuts to get to 53:
- WR Carlton Agudosi
- DT Peli Anau
- LB Alex Bazzie
- LB Cap Capi
- CB Jarrell Carter
- TE Gerald Christian
- S Ironhead Gallon
- LB Zaviar Gooden
- CB Gump Hayes
- WR Krishawn Hogan
- WR Chris Hubert
- LB Jarvis Jones (injury settlement)
- G Dorian Johnson
- G Kaleb Johnson
- LB Tre’Von Johnson (injury settlement)
- QB Trevor Knight
- LB Ryan Langford
- P Richie Leone
- CB Ryan Lewis
- T Jonathan McLaughlin
- S Harlan Miller
- DT David Moala
- C Daniel Munyer
- T Givens Price
- WR Jeremy Ross
- TE Ricky Seals-Jones
- CB Sojourn Shelton
- DT Ed Stinson (waived/injured)
- RB James Summers
- DT Pasoni Tasini
- G Cole Toner
- TE Hakeem Valles
- LB Terence Waugh
- LB Scooby Wright
Wright was a standout at the University of Arizona. As a sophomore for the Wildcats, Wright was an absolute monster as he tallied 163 tackles, 29 tackles for loss, 14 sacks, and six forced fumbles. Unfortunately, he was slowed by injuries in 2015 and he wound up as a seventh-round pick of the Browns. The Cardinals were happy to scoop him up in December, but he has been pushed out in favor of veteran Josh Bynes and others.
Also of note – fourth-round guard Dorian Johnson has been cut. Johnson struggled in camp and the Cardinals were not willing to use a roster spot on him. I would speculate that he could be a taxi squad candidate.
Minor Moves: Tuesday
With contending teams vying for playoff spots and fighting for higher seeds, and non-contenders perhaps taking a longer look at younger players down the stretch, we can expect teams to make plenty of minor tweaks to their 53-man rosters this week. Here are Tuesday’s minor transactions, with the latest moves added to the top of the list throughout the day:
- According to the league transaction wire, quarterback Chandler Harnish has been released by the Vikings, tweets Matt Vensel of the Star Tribune. Harnish was under an injured designation with a foot injury.
- The Browns have made room for the addition of Andrew McDonald (noted below) by waiving linebacker Zac Diles, the club announced today (Twitter link).
- The Buccaneers have released cornerback Crezdon Butler, and will likely announce more moves on Wednesday, according to Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com (Twitter link). One possible replacement for Butler could be former safety Mistral Raymond — a source tells Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun (Twitter link) that the former Viking worked out for Tampa Bay today.
- The Raiders have plucked a player from across the bay, signing cornerback Chance Casey from off the 49ers’ practice squad, according to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com (Twitter link).
Earlier updates:
- A day after being cut by the Colts, offensive tackle Andrew McDonald has been claimed off waivers by the Browns, according to agent Brett Tessler (Twitter link). It’s not clear yet who is coming off Cleveland’s roster to make room for the new addition.
- Cornerback Josh Thomas, who apparently lost his playbook recently, won’t be needing it back now — he was released by the Jets today, according to the team (Twitter link). New York called up safety Rontez Miles from the practice squad to take Thomas’ place on the roster.
- Offensive tackle J’Marcus Webb has been cut by the Vikings, the team announced today (Twitter link). Webb’s release comes on the heels of his missed block that led to a blocked field goal during Sunday’s loss to the Lions.
- Having already made multiple roster moves today, the Ravens completed a couple more, placing running back Lorenzo Taliaferro on the injured reserve list and signed former defensive tackle Casey Walker off the Patriots’ practice squad, the club announced in a press release. Baltimore still has an open spot on its 53-man roster.
- The Titans have swapped tight ends on their active roster, signing Matthew Mulligan and placing Brett Brackett on injured reserve, says Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean (Twitter links). Brackett’s season comes to a premature end due to a knee issue.
- The Cardinals have placed defensive tackle Ed Stinson on injured reserve, ending his season, per Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com (via Twitter). Taking Stinson’s place on the roster is wide receiver Brittan Golden, promoted from Arizona’s practice squad.
- The Falcons cleared a roster spot by placing cornerback Robert Alford on injured reserve yesterday with a wrist issue, and will fill that spot today by promoting cornerback Ricardo Allen from their practice squad, a source tells Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com (Twitter link). The team has since confirmed the move (via Twitter).
- Agent Mike McCartney indicated today (via Twitter) that his client, offensive lineman Ryan Jensen, has received a promotion from the Ravens‘ practice squad to the team’s 53-man roster. It’s not clear yet whose spot Jensen is taking, but defensive backs Asa Jackson and Terrence Brooks are both expected to be placed on IR this week.
West Minor Moves: Seahawks, Cardinals, Chiefs
The Seahawks have signed fourth-round pick Cassius Marsh to a rookie deal, reports Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times (via Twitter). The UCLA pass rusher will provide depth at defensive end.
Here are some other roster moves from across the NFC and AFC West:
- The Seahawks have also signed tight end Rashaun Allen and offensive tackle Nate Isles out of their rookie minicamp, reports Condotta (via Twitter). The team has released cornerback Jimmy Legree and tight end Travis Beckum to make room for the signings.
- The Cardinals have signed fifth-round pick Ed Stinson to a rookie contract, reports Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun (via Twitter). The defensive end out of Alabama will earn $2.406MM over four years, with a signing bonus of $186,740.
- Defensive lineman Kyle Love has agreed to return to the Chiefs, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (via Twitter). Love has formerly enjoyed stints with the Patriots and Jaguars.
