Week 16 Injury Notes
- The Seahawks are also dealing with a few critical injuries of their own prior to the Week 16 contest, even though the injury news seems to be a bit better on Seattle’s side. Head coach Pete Carroll said after practice that linebacker Bobby Wagner and strong safety Bradley McDougald are on track to play on Sunday, but the team would “wait-and-see” if cornerback DeShawn Shead would be activated from the PUP for this weekend’s matchup, reports Brady Henderson of ESPN.com.

Pete Carroll: Lacy Signing Hasn't Worked Out
- Seahawks coach Pete Carroll admitted that things haven’t really worked out with offseason addition Eddie Lacy “for a number of reasons,” (Twitter link via Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times). However, he says that Lacy and teammate Thomas Rawls are still “battling” to see if either can get time this week. Lacy, who is scheduled for free agency after the conclusion of his one-year deal, has a career-low 2.6 yards per carry average.
- Safety Cody Davis has been cleared to practice, meaning that he will be eligible to return off of injured reserve for the Rams in the final week of the regular season (Twitter link via ESPN.com’s Alden Gonzalez). Davis is a key reserve for L.A. and his return could allow free safety Lamarcus Joyner to help out at cornerback now that Kayvon Webster has been lost for the season. The Rams round out the regular season with games against the Titans and 49ers. With a two-game lead over the Seahawks, they have virtually locked up the NFC West crown.

Earl Thomas Addresses Contract Status
Here’s the latest from the Western divisions, moving to some Seahawks news.
- The final year of Earl Thomas‘ second Seahawks contract is 2018, and the safety made some interesting comments about his future on Wednesday. The eighth-year defensive back and last vestige of the Legion of Boom at the moment responded to a question about his thoughts on a long-term Seahawks future. “I know whoever gets me, I’m balling,” Thomas said, via Brady Henderson of ESPN.com. “That’s it. And I know I’m hot. So it is what it is.” Thomas signed his initial Seahawks extension in advance of his first contract year. Any subsequent re-up would almost certainly have to surpass Eric Berry‘s $13MM-AAV deal. Thomas and Berry are the only active safeties with three first-team All-Pro distinctions on their resumes.
- Sheldon Richardson has now been reported to be interested in a Jets reunion, but the Seahawks defensive lineman (predictably) won’t rule out his current team, Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times reports. While he said he’d be interested in staying in Seattle, Richardson said he’s not aware of any talks that have occurred between his agent and the Seahawks. The fifth-year lineman added that talks could be going on unbeknownst to him and that he informed his agent he wanted to focus on this season. “We’ll see where the chips fall,” Richardson said.
- After waiving guard Mark Glowinski on Saturday, the Seahawks were hoping to bring him back, offensive line coach Tom Cable said (via Condotta, on Twitter). But the Colts swooped in with a waiver claim. Glowinski started 21 games for the Seahawks — including all 18 of their 2016 contests — since arriving as a fourth-round pick in 2015.

Seahawks Place Kam Chancellor On IR
Kam Chancellor‘s season is officially over. The Seahawks made the inevitable decision to place the safety on injured reserve on Saturday.
The Pro Bowl safety had been out since last month because of a neck injury, and he won’t have a chance to return for his team until the 2018 season. Being shorthanded at other positions prompted the move.
Seattle promoted defensive back Mike Tyson and linebacker Kache Palacio from its practice squad and waived offensive lineman Mark Glowinski.
The Seahawks could be without both Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright on Sunday, depriving the highly regarded defense of several household names in total.
A rookie, Tyson played safety while at Cincinnati but was relocated to corner early in his NFL tenure. He’s spent the season on the Seahawks’ practice squad. The Seahawks added Palacio, a second-year linebacker, to their practice squad in November.
Glowinski has gone from 16-game starter in 2016 to swing player. He played in 10 games this season, starting two prior to second-round pick Ethan Pocic usurping him on the right guard depth chart. He’ll venture onto waivers.

Seahawks Work Out LB Mike Morgan
The Seahawks worked out veteran linebacker Mike Morgan on Wednesday before deciding to promote ‘fellow backer Paul Dawson from their practice squad, according to Field Yates of ESPN.com.
Morgan, 29, was technically the Seahawks’ starting strongside linebacker in 2016, but he didn’t see a ton of snaps since the team spent so much time in the nickel formation. He was also held back by injury, spending eight weeks on injured reserve with a sports hernia. All in all, Morgan played only 138 defensive snaps and posted just ten tackles.
Morgan didn’t land a free agent contract immediately after the market opened, but after auditioning for the Jaguars and Saints, he ultimately landed back in Seattle, inking a deal in July. He didn’t make it past final roster cuts, however, and he hasn’t met with any other known clubs since being released in September.
The Seahawks are dealing with injuries to both Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright, so it was imperative that the club added a bit of depth before Sunday’s contest against the Rams. While Dawson was chosen this time around, Seattle could conceivably circle back to Morgan later this year.
