NFL Practice Squad Updates: 12/13/25
Here are Saturday’s only taxi squad moves:
Seattle Seahawks
- Signed: RB Cam Akers, CB Shaquill Griffin
- Released: RB Myles Gaskin, WR Jimmy Holiday
Akers and Griffin are staying in Seattle days after getting waived by the Seahawks. After having cleared waivers, the two have returned to the team on p-squad deals.
Seahawks Waive CB Shaquill Griffin, RB Cam Akers
The Seahawks moved on from a pair of veterans today. Per the NFL’s daily transaction log, the team has waived cornerback Shaquill Griffin and running back Cam Akers.
Griffin joined the Seahawks on a one-year, $3MM deal this past offseason. The former third-round pick spent the first four seasons of his career in Seattle, but this second stint with the organization didn’t last nearly as long. In fact, this is the third time this year that the veteran has been cut by the Seahawks.
He was among the team’s final preseason cuts back in August, and after joining the team’s practice squad, he was signed to the active roster in early September. He was cut again the following week before re-joining the taxi squad. He was promoted to the active roster in late November but hasn’t seen any playing time recently. In total, Griffin has appeared in a pair of games this season, collecting seven tackles.
Akers has bounced around a bit in 2025. He spent the preseason with the Saints but didn’t make the team, and he later caught on with the Vikings for his third stint with the franchise. He got into three games with the Vikings before getting cut, and he subsequently joined the Seahawks in late November. He didn’t end up making an appearance with his new squad.
These two moves were likely done in anticipation of players being activated from injured reserve. All of defensive lineman Rylie Mills, receiver Dareke Young, offensive lineman Jalen Sundell, and tight end Eric Saubert were recently designated for return. As Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times passes along, Sundell and Saubert seem to have the best chance of suiting up this Sunday against the Colts.
Both Griffin and Akers will have to clear waivers before they can choose their next squad. There’s a chance the veterans simply land on Seattle’s practice squad.

Here are Wednesday’s minor moves and some standard gameday practice squad elevations for the annual Thanksgiving slate of games:
Arizona Cardinals
- Opened practice window: T Christian Jones
Cincinnati Bengals
- Activated from IR: S Daijahn Anthony
- Placed on IR: CB Marco Wilson
Dallas Cowboys
- Elevated: CB Corey Ballentine
Green Bay Packers
- Signed from practice squad: WR Will Sheppard

Philadelphia Eagles
- Signed from practice squad: WR Britain Covey
Seattle Seahawks
- Elevated: CB Shaquill Griffin, LB Patrick O’Connell
- Placed on IR: LB Chazz Surratt
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Designated to return from IR: S Rashad Wisdom
Green Bay’s regular kicker Brandon McManus was off the injury report with three full practices this week, so Havrisik will take his leave after filling in for three games this year. The team had been keeping Havrisik close even during McManus’ healthy stretches, but after the backup missed two extra point attempts at MetLife this weekend, the Packers relinquished him to the waiver wire.
Jones missed most of his rookie campaign due to a knee injury, and the same has been true for most of his sophomore season. This time, though, he’s coming back with a bit more time left in the season.
O’Connell had already been called up as a gameday elevation three times this year, so if Seattle wanted to see him on the field again, this move was necessary. In his most recent elevation, O’Connell was asked to play a much bigger role, staying in for over half the team’s defensive snaps. In his first extended opportunity, O’Connell finished second on the team with nine tackles and even logged his first career sack.
Minor NFL Transactions: 10/20/25
Today’s minor moves:
Detroit Lions
- Signed from practice squad: CB Arthur Maulet
- Elevated: CB Tre Flowers, S Loren Strickland
- Released: LB Ty Summers
Houston Texans
- Elevated: CB D’Angelo Ross
New England Patriots
- Claimed off waivers (from Chargers): LB Caleb Murphy
Seattle Seahawks
- Elevated: CB Shaquill Griffin, S Jerrick Reed II
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Elevated: G Mike Jordan, RB Owen Wright
It didn’t take long for Arthur Maulet to earn a full-time spot on the Lions active roster. The veteran cornerback just joined the organization earlier this month, and he already had one promotion in Week 6. He’ll likely continue seeing a rotational role in Detroit’s secondary moving forward, although his addition is partly due to absences from Terrion Arnold and D.J. Reed.
The Patriots snagged a linebacker from the Chargers today. Caleb Murphy has some familiarity with Mike Vrabel, as the former Titans coach added the linebacker as an undrafted free agent back in 2023. Murphy has gotten into 14 games in stints with the Titans and Chargers, compiling 17 tackles and 0.5 sacks.

- Signed from practice squad: TE Thomas Odukoya

Manu was ruled out for this week with a knee injury after making the first start of his career with Detroit. Unfortunately, he’ll miss the team’s next three games, as well, after being placed on injured reserve.
Wright will fill in as placekicker for the Titans in Week 6. Regular kicker Joey Slye has been ruled out with a calf injury after missing practice all week.
Avery in Cleveland and Walton in Carolina are both being called up as standard gameday practice squad elevations for the third time this year. If either of their respective teams want them to be active for another game, they will need to sign them to the 53-man roster.

Broughton, the third-round rookie out of Texas, is expected to miss the remainder of the season with a hip injury, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. The team sought multiple opinions on the injury and was unsure about whether or not surgery would be necessary, but the “significant” hip issue will shut him down for the year.
Green rejoins the reigning champs, once again. It’s been a rollercoaster of employment for the 24-year-old guard, who failed to make the initial 53-man roster in Philadelphia, signed to the practice squad, was promoted back to the active roster, and then was waived two days after the team’s season opener.
Loudermilk had been working as a starter for the first time in his five-year career, but he will miss at least the next four games with a high ankle sprain. Leal, a 2022 third-round pick out of Texas A&M, has disappointed in his first three years of play. After moving to more of an outside linebacker role this summer, Leal failed to make the initial 53-man roster but was retained to the practice squad. He’ll take Loudermilk’s spot on the active roster for the time being.
Per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2, Watson has been sidelined indefinitely with a calf muscle and Achilles injury. The tendon is not torn, so it may not be season-ending, and Watson could return at some point down the line. Luckily, the receiving corps is set to return some reinforcements as head coach DeMeco Ryans announced that both Christian Kirk and Braxton Berrios are expected to be back in Week 3. Wilson also reports that tight end Cade Stover had successful surgery recently for his broken foot.
NFL Practice Squad Updates: 9/11/25
Here are today’s practice squad moves:

New England Patriots
- Signed: G Jack Conley
- Released: G Mehki Butler
Philadelphia Eagles
- Signed: DT Gabe Hall
- Released: DT Jacob Sykes
Seattle Seahawks
- Signed: WR Cody White
Funderburk and Takitaki earned practice squad spots in Minnesota after a successful tryout. Other players who worked out for the Vikings on Thursday include cornerbacks Shemar Bartholomew and Brandon Crossley and linebackers Jamin Davis and Ty Summers, according to KRPC2’s Aaron Wilson.
The Seahawks released White from their 53-man roster on Thursday to make room for Shaquill Griffin, who was promoted from the practice squad. White, a vested veteran, did not need to pass through waivers and immediately re-signed to the Vikings’ practice squad.
Minor NFL Transactions: 9/11/25
Here are Thursday’s minor moves from around the league:

- Placed on IR: LB Micah McFadden (story)
Seattle Seahawks
- Signed from practice squad: CB Shaquill Griffin
- Released: WR Cody White

Gipson was waived by the Jets after a costly fumble in Week 1, but will not need to switch states (or even home stadiums) when joining the Giants. The 24-year-old will serve as a depth receiver for his new team and could also contribute as a returner.
The NFL also issued a three-game suspension for free agency safety Qwuantrezz Knight, per KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson. Knight appeared in six games for the Cardinals in 2023.

Each NFL team is granted up to two standard gameday practice squad elevations each game, allowing them to call up two members of their practice squad who are able to play in that weekend’s game. After the game is played, the elevated players revert back to the practice squad with no transaction required. This differs from the situation with somebody like Crumedy in Carolina. With Mathis’ placement on injured reserve opening a spot on the 53-man roster, Crumedy has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster, where he will remain until he is cut or his contract expires.
Practice squad players can be called up a maximum of three times under a single practice squad contract. If a team wants to call up a player who’s been called up three times already, the team will usually sign the player to their active roster for a game, cut them after, and then sign them to a new practice squad contract. Under the new contract, the player would be eligible to be elevated for three more games.
As the Dolphins await Jason Sanders‘ return from IR, Patterson was named the winner of a kicking audition with three other veteran kickers. Miami will be able to elevate him three times but will have to promote him to the active roster for any games between that and Sanders’ activation. Similarly, Prater will likely be on the same plan in Buffalo.
Haener’s stint on the Saints’ active roster was short-lived as the team decides to move forward with only two quarterbacks. Spencer Rattler will handle starting duties to begin the campaign with second-round rookie Tyler Shough serving as his backup.
