Titans Place Safeties Kevin Winston, Xavier Woods, Mike Brown On IR
The Titans placed safeties Kevin Winston, Xavier Woods, and Mike Brown on injured reserve on Tuesday, per team writer Jim Wyatt.
All three went down in the Titans’ loss to the 49ers on Sunday and will be out for the rest of the season. Winston and Woods suffered hamstring injuries, while Brown hurt his ankle.
Winston and Woods combined for 16 starts and 839 snaps on defense this year and are the team’s sixth- and eighth-leading tacklers. Winston, a third-round rookie, had emerged as a full-time starter in the second half of the season, while Woods’ role has varied. Their absences will force Tennessee to start a different safety alongside Amani Hooker.
Brown could have fit the bill had he not been injured on Sunday, too. He played special teams almost exclusively this season, but last year, he occupied a 37% defensive snap share with 250 snaps at free safety, per Pro Football Focus (subscription required). This is Brown’s second stint on IR this year; he previously suffered a knee injury in October and missed five games.
Kendell Brooks finished Sunday’s game at safety for the first significant defensive workload of his career. He could be tapped to start with Hooker in the next few weeks. Another option is former Seahawk Jerrick Reed, who has played a handful of defensive snaps in the last three years, but has primarily featured on special teams.
The Titans also added two safeties to their 53-man roster after placing Winston, Woods, and Brown on IR. 2023 sixth-rounder Erick Hallett, who started two games for the Lions amid their safety injuries this year, was signed off Detroit’s practice squad and could see playing time immediately. Tennesee also signed Sanoussi Kane off the Ravens’ practice squad; the 2024 seventh-rounder spent his rookie season as a core special teams contributor in Baltimore but was waived earlier this season in favor of undrafted rookie standout Keondre Jackson.

Nichols began the year on the reserve/PUP list. The eight-year veteran has been hampered by injuries since signing with the Cardinals in 2024. After playing just six games last year, Nichols’ 2025 campaign will end after only four appearances.
Bryant makes his return to the Texans’ offense to replenish a thinned out tight ends group, while in Seattle, the Seahawks place their second-round rookie tight end, Arroyo, on injured reserve with a knee injury.
In Buffalo, this will be Jackson’s third and final standard gameday practice squad elevation. If the team wants to see him in another game this season, they’ll need to sign him to the 53-man roster. The same is true for Strong in Green Bay, Jackson and Mafi in Las Vegas, Smyth in New Orleans, Sam in Philadelphia, and Jones in Seattle.
On the flip side of that, in Denver, Turner has been signed to the 53-man roster after running out of elevations last week.
Thomas suffered a shoulder injury in Week 14 and it will end his season. The third-round rookie confirmed on social media today he is set to undergo surgery in the near future. Thomas made five starts in 2025, totaling 22 tackles and seven pass deflections.

Lions Activate CBs D.J. Reed, Khalil Dorsey From IR
A banged-up secondary in Detroit will see some reinforcements as the Lions activate both D.J. Reed and Khalil Dorsey from injured reserve. The Lions have removed both cornerbacks from their injury report, meaning they should be available for a matchup with the Giants on Sunday.
Reed was a headlining offseason pickup for the Lions, who signed the former 49er, Seahawk, and Jet to a three-year, $48MM deal after losing Carlton Davis to the Patriots. Before suffering a hamstring strain, Reed started in each of his first four games with Detroit and notched 16 tackles, four passes defensed, and an interception. He led Lions cornerbacks with an 88% snap share before missing all of October and most of November.
A week after the Lions placed Reed on IR, Dorsey joined him on the shelf. A wrist injury has held the fourth-year depth corner and special teamer to four games in 2025. He and Reed are returning to a secondary that will go without fellow CB Terrion Arnold (concussion) for the second week in a row. Reed, Amik Robertson, and Rock Ya-Sin will lead the Lions’ group of corners against Giants backup quarterback Jameis Winston, who’s starting in place of the injured Jaxson Dart.
With Reed and Dorsey back, the Lions waived safety Erick Hallett and linebacker Ty Summers. Hallett started in one of two games with Detroit this season and made eight tackles. Summers has played in five of the Lions’ first 10 contests, and all 66 of his snaps this year have come on special teams.
In an additional move, the Lions elevated tight end Anthony Firkser from the practice squad. Firkser joined the Lions’ practice squad on November 11. He’ll give the Lions a look at another option at tight end tomorrow with standout Sam LaPorta likely to miss the rest of the season after undergoing back surgery.

Wright will fill in as placekicker for the Titans in Week 6. Regular kicker Joey Slye has been ruled out with a calf injury after missing practice all week.
Avery in Cleveland and Walton in Carolina are both being called up as standard gameday practice squad elevations for the third time this year. If either of their respective teams want them to be active for another game, they will need to sign them to the 53-man roster.

Placed on reserve/PUP list:
- OL Miles Frazier
- DL Alim McNeill
- LB Malcolm Rodriguez
Placed on reserve/NFI list:
- DE Josh Paschal
McNeill is believed to be ahead of schedule, but the standout interior D-lineman will still be stashed on the PUP list — requiring a four-game absence. The Lions lost McNeill to an ACL tear — in their bloodbath of a season on defense — to a Week 15 ACL tear. This came weeks after the Lions and the four-year veteran hammered out an extension. McNeill, who has been pegged as most likely to return around midseason, is signed through 2028.
Rodriguez went down with an ACL tear during the Lions’ Thanksgiving win over the Bears. It was reported previously the young linebacker would be expected to miss regular-season time, and that will come to pass.
The Lions became the extraordinarily rare team to drop down to 50 players on roster-cutdown day, as opposed to the required 53. That will keep options open. The team can bring vested veterans back without the waiver process being involved, and teams occasionally wait until after the vested-veteran guarantee deadline passes in early September to re-sign vested performers to avoid fully guaranteeing salaries.
