Minor NFL Transactions: 12/12/25
Here are Friday’s minor moves:
Cincinnati Bengals
- Activated from IR: LB Shaka Heyward
Miami Dolphins
- Signed from practice squad: CB Isaiah Johnson
- Placed on IR: LB Caleb Johnson
Philadelphia Eagles
- Activated from IR: LS Charley Hughlett
The Eagles had already waived Hughlett’s injury replacement, Cal Adomitis, when they opened Hughlett’s practice window, so this was a fully expected move in Philadelphia. Shortly after returning to practice, Hughlett resumes his role as the team’s primary long snapper.
In Miami, Isaiah takes Caleb’s spot on the 53-man roster. This is convenient for the Dolphins because Isaiah had run out of standard gameday practice squad elevations back in early-November. With his promotion today, the three-game limit will no longer restrict his ability to suit up.

Falcons Conduct First Wave Of Roster Cuts
With Tuesday’s roster deadline approaching, the Falcons have begun making required cuts. These 12 players were let go on Saturday:
Released:
- DL Morgan Fox
- CB Lamar Jackson
- LB Caleb Johnson
Waived:
- OL Matthew Cindric
- QB Ben DiNucci
- RB Elijah Dotson
- TE Nikola Kalinic
- LB Nick Kubitz
- WR Jesse Matthews
- OLB Ronnie Perkins
- WR Quincy Skinner Jr.
- S Josh Thompson
Fox signed with Atlanta early in free agency, and the veteran appeared to be slated to handle a role along the defensive line as a result. Somewhat surprisingly, though, he has been released. Fox played in all three of the team’s preseason contests, a sign he was on the roster bubble. The 30-year-old will now hit the market in search of his next opportunity (which will no doubt present itself after final cuts are made and teams sort out their initial rosters).
DiNucci signed on Monday and by doing so provided the Falcons with a contributor under center for their preseason finale. Michael Penix Jr. and Kirk Cousins sat out the contest in preparation for their respective roles as starter and backup in 2025. Unless he is retained via the practice squad, DiNucci will need to look elsewhere while aiming to latch onto an NFL roster.
As a result of today’s moves, the Falcons are down to 77 players on their roster. Like every other team, they will need to bring that total to 53 by Tuesday afternoon.

Hoyland converted 79.3% of his field goal attempts for the Wyoming Cowboys across the last five years. He was ultra-consistent on extra points with 147 makes on 148 tries. Hoyland will compete with sixth-round pick Tyler Loop for the Ravens’ kicking job after the team released Justin Tucker.
Sheffield brings some much-needed experience to the Dolphins’ cornerback room, though he hasn’t started since 2020. He could provide crucial veteran depth in Miami, especially if Jalen Ramsey is traded.
Elgersma was the starting quarterback at Wilfried Laurier University in Ontario, Canada, for the last three years. In 2024, he won the Hec Crighton Trophy – the Canadian equivalent to the Heisman – and earned an invitation to the Senior Bowl, the first-ever for a Canadian QB. Elgersma was drafted in the second round of the 2025 CFL Draft by the Winnepeg Blue Bombers, but a successful tryout with the Packers will give him a chance at making an NFL roster.

Jags Restructure G Brandon Scherff’s Contract; LB Caleb Johnson To Reach Free Agency
The Jaguars will have stability along the offensive line in 2024. Right guard Brandon Scherff‘s deal has been restructured, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. News of the sides working on an adjusted deal was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
[RELATED: Jaguars Re-Sign Ezra Cleveland]
Scherff was set to count nearly $24MM against the cap this season, leaving some to label him a potential release candidate. Instead, this agreement will ensure he remains in Duval County for at least one more year. Schefter notes the five-time Pro Bowler will receive a fully-guaranteed salary of $15MM for 2024 with a $5MM lower cap hit than he previously had. Three void years already existed on the deal after next season, and that will remain the case.
The former Commanders All-Pro re-worked his deal last offseason, creating the likelihood of a repeat taking place in 2024. Scherff will play out the final campaign of his three-year Jags pact given today’s move, though, setting him up for an interesting walk year. The 32-year-old has not replicated his level of play from his Washington tenure so far in Jacksonville, with his PFF evaluations over the past two years (59, 67.3) marking the worst of his career.
While Scherff will remain in place moving forward, the same may not be true of linebacker and special teamer Caleb Johnson. Team and player could not reach agreement on a new deal in the latter’s case, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Johnson was on track to be a restricted free agent, meaning Jacksonville’s inability to work out a deal is also a sign no tender will be coming his way. The right of first refusal tender would have cost $2.99MM, more than Johnson’s career earnings to date.
The 25-year-old has bounced around to a number of teams, but he has spent the past two seasons in Jacksonville. He has not missed a game during that span, playing exclusively on special teams. Safety Daniel Thomas is also best known for his third phase work, and he has been re-upped on a two-year deal. With Thomas remaining in the fold, Johnson will be able to join a new team once the new league year begins on Wednesday.

Teams can begin signing players to reserve/futures contracts Jan. 8. P-squad contracts expire seven days after the regular season concludes, and NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero reminds teams are not limited regarding the number of times they can elevate a player from a taxi squad during the playoffs. In the regular season, players are capped at three gameday elevations.
The Panthers are expected to sign Boone to a futures deal next week, per the Denver Gazette’s Chris Tomasson. After three years with the Vikings and two with the Broncos, Boone played in nine games with the Texans this season. As for Wright, this marks a reunion. While Wright’s first Panthers stay did not last long (Aug. 26-30), Carolina may need him due to Eddy Pineiro‘s hamstring injury.
Amid the Jets’ wave of O-line injuries, they signed Saffold. While the former Rams, Titans and Bills starter was with the Jets for several weeks, he did not see any game action in his 14th NFL season.

Mykal Walker has found a new home after getting cut by the Raiders last week. The former fourth-round pick spent the first three seasons of his career with the Falcons, including a 2022 campaign where he collected a career-high 107 tackles in 16 games (12 starts). However, since that breakout season, the linebacker has struggled to hold a job. He was waived by Atlanta back in August and was claimed by the Bears, but Chicago ended up cutting him at the end of the preseason. Walker later joined the Raiders practice squad and spent about a month in Las Vegas.
