Lee, an undrafted free agent out of South Florida in 2016, will make his NFL debut on Sunday if he sees the field against the Falcons. After finishing with 11.5 sacks during his final collegiate season, Lee spent the entirety of the 2016 campaign on the Texans’ practice squad, but was waived by Houston during final cutdowns earlier this month.

Texans Cut Cecil Shorts III
The Texans have cut wide receiver Cecil Shorts III, according to Mark Berman of FOX 26 (on Twitter). Running back Akeem Hunt has also been shown the door, and ESPN’s Josina Anderson tweets that defensive lineman Brandon Dunn has been waived.
Last year was Shorts’ first season in Houston and he compiled 42 catches for 484 yards and two touchdowns. Shorts also returned 11 punts, his first special teams action since 2011. For his efforts last season, Pro Football Focus ranked him 90th among 121 eligible receivers. Before joining the Texans, Shorts spent four seasons with the Jaguars. His best season came in 2012, when he caught 55 passes for 979 yards and seven touchdowns. Following the 2014 season, Shorts joined the Texans on a two-year, $6MM deal.
At one point in time, Shorts had a chance to be the team’s third wide receiver, sitting behind DeAndre Hopkins and rookie Will Fuller.
Thanks to the departures of Shorts and Hunt, along with the bevy of players who received their walking papers yesterday, the Texans were already close to finalizing their 53-man roster.
The team officially announced the team’s roster moves, which included a new addition in linebacker Eric Lee.

Texans Cut LB Eric Lee
The Texans have cut outside linebacker Eric Lee, as Mark Berman of FOX 26 tweets. Lee was pursued by a number of teams after going undrafted this year, but the numbers crunch left him on the outside in Houston.
Lee finished his senior season at South Florida with 45 tackles (12 for loss), five sacks, an interception, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. He had a sack and an interception in the Miami Beach Bowl, and he served as a team captain. He also was a second-team all-conference selection who won the Lee Roy Selmon award as the Bulls’ top defensive lineman.
Lee worked out privately for Texans linebackers coach Mike Vrabel prior to the draft and made a strong impression on him. The Patriots, Bears, Dolphins, and Buccaneers were among the teams interested in the linebacker prior to the draft, so it’s possible that they could be among the clubs with interest in him now that he is available.

Texans Re-Sign Eric Lee
It has already been a busy couple of weeks for Eric Lee, who signed with the Texans as an undrafted free agent earlier this month. Not long after signing with Houston, Lee was waived by the club, but according to Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle, the Texans have officially re-signed the South Florida product, who is expected to transition from defensive end to outside linebacker.
Lee will work under the tutelage of linebackers coach Mike Vrabel, who, like Lee, was a defensive end at the collegiate level before making a successful transition to outside linebacker after being drafted by the Steelers. At 6-3, 260 pounds, Lee has the athleticism and mobility to make the transition himself, and he worked out privately for Vrabel prior to the draft. He finished his senior season with 45 tackles (12 for loss), five sacks, an interception, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. He had a sack and an interception in the Miami Beach Bowl, and he served as a team captain. He also was a second-team all-conference selection who won the Lee Roy Selmon award as the Bulls’ top defensive lineman.
Lee drew interest from one of Vrabel’s former teams, the Patriots, prior to the draft. The Bears, Dolphins, and Buccaneers were also among the clubs reported to be interested in Lee’s services.
