Lions Claim Jayson DiManche From Bengals
The Lions were in need of help at linebacker and they added some depth on Tuesday afternoon. Detroit has claimed Jayson DiManche off waivers from the Bengals, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter).
DiManche, 26 in September, spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons with the Bengals before spending time on the taxi squads of the Browns and Chiefs. In January, the Bengals inked DiManche to their practice squad and subsequently signed him to a futures deal. This week, he was a roster casualty as they trimmed down towards 75.
DiManche should help Detroit out while linebacker Jon Bostic heals up from surgery. Bostic was given a 6-12 week time table earlier this month, which means he won’t be back until October at the earliest.
The Lions waived fellow linebacker Dominique Tovell to get back down to the 75-man limit.
Bengals Cut 11 Players, Down To 79
The Bengals have only four moves left to make in advance of tomorrow’s 75-man deadline. On Monday, the club announced that eleven players have been cut loose:
- FB Jeff Luc
- DL Jack Gangwish
- CB Corey Tindal
- S Floyd Raven
- LB Darien Harris
- QB Joe Licata
- WR Antwane Grant
- K Zach Hocker
- TE John Peters
- LB Jayson DiManche
The Bengals should be able to whittle down their roster a bit more by placing players like Cedric Peerman (fractured forearm) and fourth-round draft pick Andrew Billings (surgically-repaired meniscus) on IR. Defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (ACL) is also likely to hit the PUP list.

Browns Place Andrew Hawkins On IR
The 2015 season has officially come to an end for Browns wide receiver Andrew Hawkins, who was placed on injured reserve today by the team, according to a press release. Cleveland signed linebacker Jayson DiManche from its practice squad to replace Hawkins on the 53-man roster.
Hawkins, 29, has missed the Browns’ last four games due to a concussion, and hadn’t been expected to return to the field this season. In the eight games he played – and started – for Cleveland, he recorded 27 catches on 43 targets for 276 yards.
Because Hawkins was a restricted free agent when he signed an offer sheet with the Browns, the team will have him at a bargain price for the next two seasons. The front-loaded offer Cleveland made to discourage the Bengals from matching included cap hits of $5.8MM in 2014 and $5MM in 2015, but only $1MM in 2016 and $1.8MM in 2017, so the veteran wideout likely won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.
