Jenkins, 30, spent the 2017 season with the Bears before spending time with the Giants and Dolphins. In Miami last year, he started five times and appeared in all 16 games. He finished out the year with 34 total tackles and his first sack since 2015. The deal also reunites him with old colleague Ryan Pace, the Bears GM who worked in the Saints’ front office when Jenkins was drafted back in 2013.
Dolphins Waive RB Samaje Perine, Three Others
The Dolphins signed a running back (Jordan Howard) and traded for one during the draft (Matt Breida). As a result, they waived Samaje Perine.
Miami waived Perine, long snapper Taybor Pepper, safety Montre Hartage and linebacker Terrill Hanks on Sunday.
Since coming into the league as a fourth-round Redskins pick in 2017, Perine has bounced around. His career started somewhat promisingly, with the Redskins using him frequently as a rookie. The Oklahoma product rushed for 603 yards in 2017. Since, he’s gained only 48 rushing yards.
Perine has spent time with the Bengals and Dolphins since his Redskins departure. He does not have vested-veteran status and will return to the waiver wire.
Pepper worked as the Dolphins’ long snapper throughout last season. However, Miami drafted a snapper — LSU’s Blake Ferguson — in the sixth round on Saturday.
Dolphins Waive Marcus Sherels
Marcus Sherels‘ tenure with the Dolphins has come to an end. Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald tweets that Miami has waived the veteran returner/defensive back. Safety Montre Hartage has been promoted from the practice squad to take the open roster spot.
Sherels spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Vikings before signing a one-year deal with the Saints this past offseason. The 32-year-old was placed on the injured reserve after the preseason, and he was released by New Orleans days later. He caught on with the Vikings for his second stint with the organization back in September, and he proceeded to appear in three games for Minnesota.
He was cut by the Vikings in early October, and he signed with the Dolphins about a month later. Sherels primarily served as a return man during his five games with Miami. He returned three kickoffs for 57 yards and six punts for 23 yards, adding a fumble along the way.
Hartage, a rookie defensive back out of Northwestern, has spent the majority of the season on Miami’s practice squad. He had a brief stint on the active roster earlier this month. Hartage had a solid preseason with the Dolphins, compiling five tackles.

Sunday NFL Transactions: AFC East
Listed below are the Sunday roster moves for the four AFC East teams. Those transactions for the Bills, Dolphins, Jets and Patriots are noted below.
Additionally, teams can begin constructing their 10-man practice squads today. You can check out our glossary entry on practice squads to brush up on those changes, as well as all the other guidelines that govern the 10-man units, whose players practice with the team but aren’t eligible to suit up on Sundays.

- Shaq Calhoun, G (Mississippi State)
- Wesley Farnsworth, LS (Nevada)
- Terrill Hanks, LB (New Mexico State)
- Montre Hartage, DB (Northwestern)

Most evaluators pegged Miami’s six-draft class as mediocre, but the Dolphins may have hit it out of the park with their undrafted free agents, as Thor Nystrom of Rotoworld ranked the Dolphins’ UDFAs as the second-best crop in the NFL (behind only the Saints). Calhoun is particularly interesting, as the poor state of Miami’s interior offensive line could give him a real chance at a roster spot. Williams, who was barred from testing at the scouting combine due to a 2017 altercation with a woman, is another Dolphins UDFA with a shot to make the 53-man roster, as Brad Kelly of The Draft Network writes.
