Cardinals Finalize Gannon’s New Staff
The Cardinals announced today that they have finalized their coaching staff under new head coach Jonathan Gannon, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN. We’ve tracked many new hires, firings, and retainings as they’ve occurred, but today’s finalization fills in any holes that remained between last year’s staff and what we’ve reported on so far. 
On the offensive side of the ball, we’ve got the confirmations and official titles for two new hires. Drew Terrell, who was expected to leave Washington and rumored to be in the running for Arizona’s pass-game coordinator role after missing out on the offensive coordinator job, has officially been hired as the Cardinals’ passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. Additionally, Israel Woolfork, who was rumored to become the new quarterbacks coach after being informed by the Browns that he was granted leave from his diversity coaching fellow position, has officially been made the quarterbacks coach in Arizona.
Two other new hires were announced today on the offensive staff. Former Charleston Southern head coach Autry Denson has joined the staff as a running backs coach. Denson has extensive experience coaching the position at the college level for Notre Dame, Miami (OH), and Bethune-Cookman, but this will be his first job in the NFL. Also joining the staff, Chris Cook will be under offensive line coach Klayton Adams as the team’s assistant offensive line coach. Additionally, two members of the offensive staff from former head coach Kliff Kingsbury‘s tenure have been retained with slightly new titles. Formerly the co-pass game coordinator, Spencer Whipple will be retained in the role of pass game specialist. Similarly, former Bill Bidwill Fellowship and quarterbacks assistant Connor Senger has been retained in the position of offensive quality control coach.
On the defensive side of the ball, Patrick Toney and William Peagler, who were announced to be joining the Cardinals’ staff after working together at the University of Florida, had their titles officially announced today. Toney, who was originally expected to be the safeties coach, will be the Cardinals’ defensive backs coach. Peagler, after coaching tight ends in Gainesville, will serve as assistant defensive line coach. Additionally, a holdover from last year, former defensive assistant Ronald Booker has been retained to serve as defensive quality control.
On special teams, after the departure of assistant special teams coach Devin Fitzsimmons to Carolina, Sam Sewell will be filling the same role in 2023 for the Cardinals. Additionally, away from either side of the ball, the Cardinals hired two more new staffers and retained two others. Brandon Schwab has been hired as assistant to the head coach, and Shea Thompson has been hired as director of football performance. Coaching assistant Jay Razzano was retained from last year’s staff, and Kenny Bell, who served last season in Arizona as chief of staff and offensive assistant, will be retained as the team’s director of football strategy.
With the coaching staff finalized, Gannon and the Cardinals can turn their attention to the NFL Combine, the draft, and the rest of the offseason.

Ravens Sign C Jeremy Zuttah
The Ravens signed center Jeremy Zuttah. Mike Preston of The Baltimore Sun (on Twitter) first reported that the two sides were nearing agreement. It’s a two-year deal with nearly $4MM in base salary and a max value of $6MM achievable through playing time, a source tells Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter). To make room on the roster for Zuttah, the Ravens waived/injured wide receiver Kenny Bell.

The Ravens traded Zuttah to the 49ers this offseason, but he wound up on the free agent market when San Francisco cut him loose earlier this month. The Ravens were obviously ready to move on from Zuttah at that point, but that was before a rash of injuries and a surprise retirement left them with major holes on the offensive line. Alex Lewis and Nico Siragusa were both knocked out for the whole season with injuries while John Urschel opted to walk away from the game at the age of 26.
In 2016, the 31-year-old played nearly every offensive snap for Baltimore, grading out as the No. 13 center in the league, according to Pro Football Focus. Zuttah is expected to regain his spot as the team’s starting center while Ryan Jensen will shift to left guard.
Before he landed back in Baltimore, the Colts also expressed interest in signing Zuttah.

AFC North Notes: Thomas, Eifert, Ravens, Pouncey
The Browns lost more of their core talents this offseason as a new front office attempts another reboot. Joe Thomas didn’t necessarily agree with the decisions to let some of those players go and mentioned previous front office’s apathy toward keeping past free agents as a reason for where the team resides today.
“That’s one of the frustrations that I’ve had over the years, and that’s the problem when you constantly are hitting the reset button is guys that are really good players like that end up falling through the cracks or going to other teams because any time a new staff comes in basically they wipe out the middle class,” Thomas said, via Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. “They keep a couple of your superstars and then they want everyone else being a rookie so that they can try to develop them.
“When you keep doing that over and over again, you really lose all your middle class on your team. So guys like Buster Skrine, Jabaal Sheard, D’Qwell Jackson, Jordan Cameron, Travis Benjamin … disappeared, even though those were the guys that you drafted them, spent the time developing them and right when they’re hitting stride in the peaks of their career, they end up going somewhere else and having great success.”
Thomas, who continues to be the subject of trade rumors, and Joe Haden remain two of the only long-tenured Browns. The franchise also let Alex Mack and Mitchell Schwartz walk this spring. Cleveland possesses an NFL-most $49.3MM in cap space.

- Tyler Eifert suffered a separate setback from the ankle problem he’s dealt with for months, but the Pro Bowl tight end hasn’t given up on making his 2016 Bengals debut despite having encountered back trouble, Bob Holtzman of ESPN.com reports. However, Holtzman adds the tight end sitting Sunday against the Cowboys remains the most likely result.
- Safety Winston Guy worked out for the Ravens, joining wide receiver Kenny Bell, who was visiting, Field Yates of ESPN.com reports (Twitter link). The Colts cut Guy last month.
- The Steelers gave Maurkice Pouncey reps at right tackle in practice, per Chris Bradford and Christopher Mueller of the Beaver County (Pa.) Times. Marcus Gilbert and swing man Ryan Harris are considered questionable for Sunday, leaving Chris Hubbard as the next in line and Pouncey as the in-case-of-emergency option. Pouncey has played guard in a game before but never tackle, although he nearly lined up there in a 2012 tilt against the Cowboys.
- Robert Griffin III will be evaluated to see if he needs surgery. The fifth-year quarterback remains unlikely to return until 2017, but that timeline isn’t certain yet.

We’re a quarter of the way through the regular season, and clubs are constantly updating their emergency lists of players. Let’s take a look at the latest reported auditions and visits, which we’ve divided by conference due to today’s sheer volume:

- The Raiders took a look at linebackers Danny Lansanah and Tyrell Adams, according to Caplan (Twitter link). Oakland eventually settled on Perry Riley as its new linebacker.
- Before he signed with the Browns’ practice squad, offensive lineman Mike Liedtke worked out for the Ravens and was scheduled to audition for the Jaguars, according to his agent Brett Tessler (Twitter link). Baltimore also tried out veteran safety Shamiel Gary today, per Jeff Zriebec of the Baltimore Sun (Twitter link). Gary has also been linked to the Giants in recent days.
- The Ravens didn’t stop there, according to Howard Balzer (Twitter link): Baltimore also worked out defensive backs Jeron Johnson and Ryan Murphy, linebackers Jamari Lattimore and Andy Mulumba, and guard Ian Silberman.
- Former Liberty quarterback Josh Woodrum, former Tampa Bay wide receiver Kenny Bell, and long snapper Jon Akemon all worked out with the Chiefs today, according to NFL Draft Diamonds (on Twitter).
