David Fales

Dolphins Sign QB David Fales

The Dolphins have agreed to terms with quarterback David Fales, as James Walker of ESPN.com tweets. Fales was a former draft pick of the Bears and spent the 2015 season with Miami head coach Adam GaseDavid Fales (vertical)

Fales now becomes the third quarterback on the Dolphins’ depth chart, behind starter Ryan Tannehill and backup Matt Moore. T.J. Yates is a free agent and today’s signing is probably an indication that he’ll be headed elsewhere in 2017.

In other Dolphins news, they’re reportedly taking a hard look at front seven prospects in this year’s draft and recently lined up a visit with Michigan defensive end Taco Charlton.

Bears Sign QB David Fales

The Bears are signing quarterback David Fales from the Ravens’ practice squad, a source tells Mike Garafolo of NFL.com (on Twitter). The move comes on the heels of Jay Cutler‘s shoulder injury, which could potentially shut him down for the seasonDavid Fales (vertical)

Fales was a sixth-round pick of the Bears in 2014 under the previous regime. He was cut by Ryan Pace & Co. before this year’s 53-man deadline, but the team kept his number handy. He’ll now hold the clipboard for Matt Barkley. Depending on the severity of Cutler’s injury, there may be a place for Fales on the 53-man roster the rest of the way.

This has been a trying year for the Bears and things have only gotten worse for them this month. Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was suspended four games for PEDs and, one week later, linebacker Jerrell Freeman suffered the same fate. In between those bans, tight end Zach Miller was ruled out for the season with a broken right foot and teammates reportedly lost faith in Cutler. Now, Cutler could be sidelined for the rest of the year, leaving Barkley and Fales at quarterback.

Ravens Promote CB Asa Jackson

The Ravens announced that they have promoted cornerback Asa Jackson to the 53-man roster. His spot was cleared when Baltimore placed rookie defensive tackle Willie Henry on injured reserve. The Ravens also signed guard Jarrod Pughsley and tight end Austin Traylor to the practice squad while releasing quarterback David Fales. Asa Jackson (vertical)

Jackson will help provide depth which Shareece Wright deals with a thigh injury. He may also be utilized on special teams where Devin Hester has coughed up the ball multiple times this year as a return. Jackson missed the 75-man cut in Arizona this summer, but he hopes to stick on the Ravens’ 53-man roster after being jostled around this year.

Henry, a fourth-round pick, is the third Ravens draft pick to be placed on IR this year. He was active for only one game this year.

The good news is that for all the injuries in Baltimore, the team did not announce that tackle Alex Lewis or guard Marshal Yanda are going to IR. Lewis suffered a high ankle sprain recently and was given a six week prognosis. Yanda, meanwhile, is dealing with a shoulder injury and an uncertain timetable for return.

Workout Notes: Ravens, Lions, Chiefs, Bills

The latest workouts from around the NFL:

  • Quarterback David Fales visited the Ravens on Monday, reports Field Yates of ESPN.com (Twitter link via Jamison Hensley). Fales spent the first two years of his career in Chicago after it selected him in the sixth round of the 2014 draft. The former San Jose State signal-caller worked under then-head coach Marc Trestman as a rookie. Trestman is now the Ravens’ offensive coordinator.
  • The Lions tried out tight ends Nic Jacobs and Marcel Johnson on Monday, per Yates. Both Jacobs and Jensen were previously with Jacksonville. They have four career catches between them.
  • The Chiefs auditioned cornerback Robertson Daniel on Monday, tweets Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. Daniel, a former BYU Cougar, has spent time with Oakland and Green Bay since going undrafted last year.
  • The Bills tried out tight end Rory “Busta” Anderson, a source told Yates. Anderson was a seventh-round pick of the 49ers last year. He didn’t see any game action as a rookie.
  • Linebacker Luke Rhodes has a Tuesday workout with the Jaguars, according to Draft Diamonds (Twitter link via Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times). Rhodes went undrafted out of William & Mary before hooking on with the Buccaneers, who waived him Friday.
  • The Packers took a look at tight end Steven Scheu, relays Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com (Twitter link). The Patriots cut Scheu, undrafted from Vanderbilt, in camp.

Braverman was the club’s seventh-round pick this year after posting a whopping 109 receptions for Western Michigan in 2015.

Moeaki has bounced around a bit since leaving the Chiefs in 2012. The 29-year-old played in 11 games for the Falcons last season, but he only hauled in three catches for 58 yards. Following a 2012 campaign where he caught 33 passes for 453 yards and a score, Moeaki has only compiled 11 catches for 192 yards over the past three seasons.
