Patriots Set 53-Man Roster
Mike Vrabel‘s first roster as Patriots head coach is taking shape. The team announced the following moves as they set their initial 53-man roster:
Released:
Waived:
- CB Miles Battle
- G Mehki Butler
- G Jack Conley
- CB Brandon Crossley
- TE C.J. Dippre
- RB JaMycal Hasty
- OT Demontrey Jacobs

- DE Truman Jones
- C Alec Lindstrom
- DB Kobee Minor
- DT David Olajiga
- LB Cam Riley
- DT Jahvaree Ritzie
- K John Parker Romo
- TE Gee Scott
- G Cole Strange (story)
- LB Bradyn Swinson
- WR Jeremiah Webb
Placed on IR (designated for return):
Placed on IR:
- WR Ja’Lynn Polk
In addition to cutting Strange, the organization also moved on from Demontrey Jacobs, who started 13 games for the Patriots last season. Elsewhere on the OL, it sounds like David Olajiga will land back on New England’s practice squad if he clears waivers, per Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald.
Perhaps the most surprising moves were the cuts the Patriots didn’t make. Kyle Dugger will stick around despite days of trade speculation. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Patriots did receive multiple trade offers for the safety, but his $9.75MM salary (and how much the Patriots would be forced to take on) was a hurdle during negotiations. Meanwhile, the Patriots are temporarily holding on to eight wide receivers, with players like Kendrick Bourne and Javon Baker making the squad.

The Chiefs have signed Lassiter, fresh off a spring season with the UFL’s Memphis Showboats, to help cover for the lack of camp bodies at the position. Xavier Worthy, Skyy Moore, and Marquise Brown are all currently sidelined with injuries.
In other Chiefs-related news, Niang will get a new opportunity in Washington for training camp. A former third-round pick in Kansas City, Niang was tried at starter for a bit before ultimately getting demoted to the practice squad last year. The Chiefs released him from the p-squad in November, and he’s been a free agent ever since.
Jets Activate S Chuck Clark, Elevate K Anders Carlson
Chuck Clark is set to return to the Jets’ lineup in Week 11. The veteran safety was activated from injured reserve on Saturday, per a team announcement.
Clark has been out of the lineup for the past month due to an ankle injury. The 29-year-old missed the minimum four games before returning to practice earlier this week. Given the timing of his 21-day activation window having been opened, today’s move comes as no surprise. New York now has six IR activations remaining for the year.
Signed in free agency last offseason, Clark was set to handle a starting role upon arrival with the Jets. The former Raven was out of the fold all season due to an ACL tear, however, leaving this past September as his first game action with his new team. Having logged a snap share of 85% prior to his injury, Clark played a key role in the Jets’ secondary when healthy and he will no doubt do so again moving forward.
New York ranks second in the league against the pass with an average of 168 yards per game allowed through the air. Maintaining that success will be necessary if the team is to make a push for the postseason over the second half of the year. The Jets sit at 3-7 and their offense sits 26th in scoring, so posting strong totals on the other side of the ball will be crucial. Clark, a pending free agent, will aim to help his market value by remaining on the field the rest of the way.
The team also elevated kicker Anders Carlson from the practice squad. Carlson was let go by the Packers ahead of roster cutdowns after just one season with the franchise. The 2023 sixth-rounder had an audition period with the 49ers over a two game span while filling in for the injured Jake Moody. Carlson was ultimately added to the Jets’ taxi squad last week as part of the team’s efforts to find a suitable Greg Zuerlein replacement.
Riley Patterson handled kicking duties for one game and went three-for-three on extra point attempts in New York’s 21-13 win. He was waived after that outing, however, with Carlson being added. Spencer Shrader was also in the picture at that point, but with Harrison Butker landing on IR he was signed by the Chiefs to fill in for the time being. That leaves Carlson – who connected on all five of his field goal attempts and three of his four extra point kicks with San Francisco – to serve as the Jets’ kicker for at least one contest.
To make room for Clark’s activation, offensive lineman Alec Lindstrom was waived. The 26-year-old has found himself on and off the Jets’ roster this season, and he made his first career regular season appearance in Week 9. provided he clears waivers, Lindstrom will be a prime candidate to be retained via a practice squad deal.
Jets Place DT Leki Fotu On IR, Activate TE Kenny Yeboah
Allen Lazard has landed on injured reserve, sideling him for at least four games. He is joined in that respect by defensive tackle Leki Fotu, per a team announcement.
Fotu began the season on IR, and he was only activated two weeks ago. The free agent addition has therefore logged just 46 defensive snaps so far this season, and this second IR stint will further interrupt his 2024 campaign. Fotu served as a rotational member of Arizona’s D-line rotation over the past four years, and he was positioned to do the same upon arrival with the Jets.
The 26-year-old signed a one-year, $2.5MM deal to join New York. That low-risk investment has not gone as planned so far, but once healthy Fotu could be an effective contributor against the run. Fulfilling that role would be welcomed by team and player; the Jets have posted strong numbers in certain defensive categories this season, but they rank only 17th against the run. An effective showing to close out the campaign would also, of course, help Fotu’s market value.
New York also activated tight end Kenny Yeboah from injured reserve on Thursday. Like Fotu, he was listed as designated for return before the roster cutdown deadline, allowing him to see the field at some point after Week 4. Yeboah had his practice window opened last week, so it comes as no surprise he has been activated in time for tonight’s matchup against the Texans. In a corresponding move to the special teamer’s activation, fellow tight end Anthony Firkser was released.
As expected, Riley Patterson will indeed be the first kicker to get the first opportunity to take over for the injured Greg Zuerlein. Added to the practice squad (along with Spencer Shrader) yesterday, Patterson will not be a gameday elevation for Thursday’s game; rather, he has been signed to the active roster. Given Zuerlein’s struggles this season, Patterson could certainly play his way into an extended opportunity with the Jets even after the veteran is healthy.
Offensive lineman Alec Lindstrom – who has bounced on and off the Jets’ roster in recent days – has also been signed off the taxi squad to the active roster. The 26-year-old has yet to make a regular season appearance in the NFL, but he will again dress as a backup option up front for today’s game.

Wilson is a former collegiate basketball player who played for two years apiece at Idaho and Oregon State. He transitioned to football, transferring to Washington State for three years, appearing in 12 games in 2022 at right and left tackle. He then played in 13 basketball games for the Cougars before transferring to Minnesota and transitioning back to basketball for his final year of collegiate eligibility.

Buffalo’s decision to cut Jones marks a blow to his efforts in finding a roster spot on a new team. Considering the latest report on his status, however, it does not come as a surprise. The Bills dealt with a number of injuries at the linebacker spot last season and Matt Milano will miss extended time in 2024 due to a biceps tear. In spite of that, the team will look elsewhere for depth options unless Jones is retained via the practice squad later this week.

CeeDee Lamb isn’t usually mentioned in this type of post, but the transaction involving the wideout was simply procedural. As ESPN’s Todd Archer notes, placing Lamb on the reserve/did not report list opens up a roster spot for the Cowboys, something that was necessary after the team signed three players today. This move doesn’t impact negotiations, and Lamb can be activated once he returns to practice. Lamb continues to holdout while he waits for a new deal, but the front office is working hard to get him back in the building.
Justin Herbert‘s recent foot injury necessitated some extra depth at the position. The team ended up opting for Luis Perez, who led the UFL last season in completions (225), passing yards (2,309), and touchdowns (18). Perez will soak up some temporary snaps alongside Easton Stick, Max Duggan, and UDFA Casey Bauman.
