Out for most of the Panthers’ preseason workouts due to offseason back surgery, Tremble can begin ramping up in earnest for Week 1. A debut on time will be the goal, Dave Canales said Thursday. Tremble re-signed with Carolina on a two-year, $10.5MM deal this offseason.
Brown joined the 49ers after starting 10 Seahawks games from 2023-24. The team had aimed for the former fourth-round pick to play a backup role this season, but he instead has become the corresponding move following the Skyy Moore trade. The team has ex-Colts starter Dallis Flowers and preseason standout Chase Lucas as options, while veteran Fabian Moreau is in the mix as well.
Harris joins the Commanders after starting six Browns games from 2020-24. Harris had signed with the Seahawks last year, before being traded back to Cleveland ahead of Week 1. He ended up on the Browns’ IR list by October. Harris, 26, worked out for the Saints earlier this month. Watson suffered a biceps tear, according to cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot. The Browns drafted Watson in the 2024 sixth round; he played 14 games and made one start as a rookie.

The Titans swapped linebackers today, replacing Otis Reese with Brian Asamoah II. The latter was waived by the Vikings yesterday, but he’ll quickly land on his feet in Tennessee. The former third-round pick spent three years in Minnesota, collecting 30 tackles in 46 games. 802 of his 990 snaps came on special teams. He’ll be taking the spot formerly held by Reese, who started five games for the Titans over the previous two seasons.

Mbaeteka was waived by the Browns on Monday and quickly found a new home in Arizona. The Nigeria native has an international player exemption, per Howard Balzer of CardsWire, allowing the Cardinals to carry 91 players on their preseason roster. The exemption also makes Mbaeteka eligible to be an extra 17th player on the team’s practice squad.
Herndon, 29, will add some defensive back depth to Buffalo’s secondary. Interestingly, the Bills listed Herndon as a safety when they announced his signing, though the seven-year veteran has primarily played both outside and slot cornerback throughout his career.
Price, a 49ers third-round pick in 2022, has only played 105 total snaps in his first three NFL seasons. In Green Bay, he’ll fight for a roster spot in the Packers’ backfield behind Josh Jacobs, Emanuel Wilson, and MarShawn Lloyd.
Asamoah’s release by the Vikings was a bit of a surprise given that the 2022 third-rounder has appeared in 46 games over the last three seasons, primarily as a core special teams contributor. However, he had yet to develop into a reliable defender in Brian Flores‘ scheme and will look to compete for a role elsewhere.
Johnstone’s release signals that offseason signing Charley Hughlett will be the Eagles’ long snapper for the 2025 season.

NFL Reserve/Futures Contracts: 1/14/25
Once the regular season ends, teams that are eliminated from the playoffs can sign players – typically young members of their practice squads – to reserve/futures contracts. Teams that lose in the playoffs are also eligible to sign such deals. Here are the latest reserve/futures contracts from around the NFL:
Cleveland Browns
- G Brady Latham, DT Ralph Holley
Green Bay Packers

Williams, S Rashad Wisdom
Holley is a former Western Michigan Bronco who started his professional career with the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL in 2022. He then signed with the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts for the 2023 season and played a key role in their 2024 Grey Cup championship. Holley led all CFL interior defensive linemen with 8.0 sacks, drawing attention from multiple NFL teams before signing with the Browns, per KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson.
Steward was an undrafted rookie out of Troy in 2024 who spent the year on the Bears’ practice squad. He was pursued by multiple teams once the regular season ended, per KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson, but ultimately chose to stay within the NFC North with the Vikings.

- Elevated: T Chandler Brewer, DB Gervarrius Owens
- Released: DB Tre Avery, DB Gabe Jeudy-Lally
It was already known Lamb would be out for the remainder of the year, but the same will now be true of Oruwariye. The latter made seven appearances in 2024, his debut Cowboys season. That included four starts and a defensive snap share of 62%, making him a notable contributor on a Dallas defense which has dealt with a number of injuries. Oruwariye, 28, is a pending free agent.
McCoy and Patrick suffered injuries during the Saints’ Week 16 loss, and today’s move confirms they will both miss the remainder of the season. New Orleans’ offensive line has been dealt a number of blows in 2024, and that will continue through the final two games of the season. McCoy appeared in just seven games this year, but plenty of term remains on his pact. Patrick, by contrast, is set to hit the open market this spring.
Whitehead returned to practice earlier this week, so it comes as no surprise he will be available to the Buccaneers tomorrow. He will be expected to reprise his role as a defensive starter as Tampa Bay looks to seal the NFC South over the final two games of the campaign. Bringing back Whitehead and Johnson will leave the team with two IR activations.

Seattle Seahawks
- Elevated: QB Jaren Hall, S Ty Okada
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Elevated: QB Michael Pratt
Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo is listed as questionable, but head coach Raheem Morris is confident he’ll play, calling Patterson an emergency option.
Speculation out of Baltimore was that Maulet wouldn’t require a second stint on injured reserve with his calf injury, but that intel appears to have been off. Maulet and Kolar could potentially make a return in time for the postseason, but they’ll miss four games before they do.
VanSumeren served double-duty as a fullback and linebacker. With his placement on IR, Uzomah was targeted as a possibility to fill in at fullback.

Packers To Waive QBs Sean Clifford, Michael Pratt
AUGUST 28: Clifford has cleared waivers and remains in Green Bay’s plans. The Packers are bringing back the former fifth-round pick on a practice squad deal, NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo tweets.
AUGUST 27: The Packers will need Malik Willis to digest Matt LaFleur‘s playbook quickly, as he is now the only backup quarterback on their roster. Less than 24 hours after acquiring the former Titans draftee, the Packers moved on from their other two non-Jordan Love options.
Green Bay is cutting both Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. Unless the Packers circle back to one of the young passers via the practice squad — assuming one clears waivers — they will not have any non-Love QB who went through its offseason program.
LaFleur expressed disappointment in the team’s backup options after a 27-2 loss to the Broncos, a game that featured Denver starters and mostly Green Bay backups. The outing, however, did not get much better after Broncos starters exited. The Packers have since acquired Willis, who has two years left on his rookie contract. Despite the 2022 third-rounder struggling in Tennessee, he appears poised to be Love’s lone active-roster backup.
Chosen in the 2023 fifth round, Clifford spent last season as Love’s backup. The Aaron Rodgers successor stayed healthy, keeping the Penn State product sidelined. Clifford completed just 51% of his passes during preseason play, averaging just 4.8 yards per attempt. The Pack chose Pratt in this year’s seventh round. It would stand to reason the team — for continuity’s sake, if nothing else — would want one of the signal-callers back on the P-squad, so it will be interesting to see how the team proceeds with this position group Wednesday.
This is certainly quite the swing for Willis, who entered the week as a Titans third-stringer after underwhelming in his rookie-year game action. The Titans fired the GM who drafted Willis (Jon Robinson) and hired a new coaching staff. With Will Levis in place as a Tennessee young QB, Willis suddenly did not make much sense on the team’s roster. The Titans found a trade taker, and despite completing 50.8% of his passes at a ghastly 4.5 yards per attempt, the former Liberty standout has a nice opportunity ahead.
Two years remain on Willis’ rookie deal. Clifford is signed through 2026, though that contract will no longer be active if he goes unclaimed Wednesday.
