Broncos Trim Roster To 53
The Denver Broncos made a slew of moves today to get down to 53 players. Notably, the team will place rookie second-round quarterback Drew Lock on injured reserve, meaning he’ll have to miss at least the first eight games of the season as he recovers from his thumb injury. The team cut journeyman Kevin Hogan and UDFA Brett Rypien, leaving them without a quarterback behind Joe Flacco. GM John Elway has said they’ll sign a veteran to backup Flacco for now, and we’ve already heard they’re interested in Brian Hoyer.
There weren’t too many surprises that we didn’t already know of. Brendan Langley, a 2017 third-round pick, failed to make the team. He was drafted as a cornerback, but switched to receiver earlier this offseason after he didn’t pan out on defense.

Saints To Activate WR Tommylee Lewis
The 9-1 Saints will soon receive more help. They are activating wide receiver Tommylee Lewis, their primary return man, from IR, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets.
New Orleans will waive offensive lineman Chaz Green to make room. Lewis was designated as an IR-return player earlier this month. He has not played since Week 2 due to a knee injury.
Lewis served as the Saints’ kick- and punt-return specialist from 2016-17, primarily working as a kick returner. With the Saints waiving Green, whom they recently signed, it appears they’ll be going with a six-wideout group entering their Week 12 matchup with the Falcons.
New Orleans lost Dez Bryant days after signing him but added Brandon Marshall and Keith Kirkwood and are now bringing back Lewis. So, New Orleans is now much deeper at wideout than it was two weeks ago.
A former UDFA out of Northern Illinois, Lewis caught 10 passes for 116 yards last season. The Saints have used third-string quarterback-turned-gadget dynamo Taysom Hill as their primary kick returner in Lewis’ absence. Alvin Kamara has returned the bulk of the punts.
Saints Place OL Josh LeRibeus On IR
Despite Josh LeRibeus failing to make the Saints’ roster out of training camp, he re-signed with the team shortly after and made three starts. But the veteran offensive lineman’s season could well be over.
The Saints placed LeRibeus on IR on Tuesday, Josh Katzenstein of NOLA.com tweets. They signed former Cowboys lineman Chaz Green to fill the roster spot.
A LeRibeus ankle injury prompted the Saints to make this move. LeRibeus suffered the malady against the Ravens, a game he started at left guard in place of Andrus Peat. Playing in his second season with the Saints, LeRibeus started in Peat’s place in Week 1 and Week 3 as well.
The Saints could bring LeRibeus off IR in Week 16, but with just two IR-return options available to them, that’s obviously uncertain. New Orleans still has four other backup offensive linemen on its active roster.
Green started six games for the Cowboys between the 2016 and ’17 seasons, his most noteworthy outing coming in a game in which he started for Tyron Smith at left tackle and Adrian Clayborn hounded him in a six-sack performance. The 26-year-old Green was a third-round Cowboys pick in 2015.

Jets Work Out 5 Tackles
The Jets’ Tuesday workout schedule proved to be quite specific. Only one position was brought through for Jets brass in advance of the team’s Thursday-night game against the Browns.
Five tackles auditioned for Gang Green today, with Field Yates of ESPN.com tweeting Menelik Watson, Will Beatty, Cyrus Kouandjio, Cornelius Lucas and Chaz Green comprised the quintet.
New York already has Ben Ijalana on IR, and Kelvin Beachum entered the week with a foot injury. So did guard James Carpenter. However, both upgraded to full practices by Tuesday.
Watson and Kouandjio both went to camp with the Broncos. Neither former second-round pick made Denver’s 53-man roster, although Watson pocketed some additional money thanks to guarantees in his 2017 free agent contract with the team. He made seven starts with the 2017 Broncos.
Beatty is now 33 and hasn’t been an NFL regular since his run as the Giants’ left tackle ended after the 2014 season. He did play in one game for the Eagles last season and in six for the 2016 Giants, however, and is trying his hand at latching on with a team for another season.
A third-round Cowboys pick in 2015, Green started four games last season but experienced consistent trouble blocking Adrian Clayborn during the then-Falcons defensive end’s six-sack day. A four-year veteran, Lucas started one game for the Rams last season and worked out for the Texans last week.
Cowboys Announce Roster Cuts
In addition to releasing veteran kicker Dan Bailey, the Cowboys have made several other moves in order to move their roster to 53 players:
Cut:

- WR Lance Lenoir Jr.

- LB Joel Lanning
- LB Kyle Quiero

Green, a former third-round pick, has struggled mightily in his effort to become Dallas’ third offensive tackle. Ward, for his part, was acquired in exchange for wide receiver Ryan Switzer earlier this year.
