15 NFL Players Land On NFL’s Reserve/COVID-19 List
The Dolphins, Browns, Ravens, Bengals, Steelers, Jaguars, Chiefs, Cowboys and Buccaneers have placed players on the newly created reserve/COVID-19 list. Here’s the full rundown, per the league’s transactions wire:
Baltimore Ravens
Cleveland Browns
Cincinnati Bengals
Dallas Cowboys
Jacksonville Jaguars
- CB Luq Barcoo, DT DaVon Hamilton, CB Josiah Scott, OL Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms
Kansas City Chiefs
- WR Aleva Hifo
Miami Dolphins
- LS Blake Ferguson, DT Benito Jones, CB Cordrea Tankersley
Pittsburgh Steelers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The reserve/COVID-19 designation is for players who have tested positive for the coronavirus or are in quarantine for potential exposure. In turn, these players are removed from the roster and allowed to return after three weeks.
Dolphins Won’t Activate Cordrea Tankersley
The Dolphins will not activate cornerback Cordrea Tankersley from the physically unable to perform list by today’s deadline, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald (Twitter link).
Tankersley suffered a torn ACL just over a year ago and has been working his way back to full health ever since. The 2017 third-round pick came back to practice in October, opening a three-week window during which Miami had to either activate Tankersley or keep him on PUP for the remainder of the year. After assessing his progress, the Dolphins have decided on the latter option.
A Clemson product, Tankersley became a starter in Week 4 of his rookie campaign and ended up starting for the rest of the season. The results weren’t great, however: among the 93 cornerbacks who played at least 500 defensive snaps in 2017, Tankersley ranked just 79th in Pro Football Focus’ grades. In 2018, Tankersley spent most of his time on special teams before tearing his ACL.
NFL Players Returning From IR/PUP
Now that we’re approaching the midway point of the regular season, players on various injury lists are now able to begin to return to practice and, eventually, return to game action. Here’s the list of players coming back to practice this week while on injured reserve or physically unable to perform list, as Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets:
- Cardinals G Max Garcia (PUP)
- Packers S Ibraheim Campbell (PUP)
- Packers TE Jace Sternberger (IR)
- Dolphins DT Robert Nkemdiche (PUP)
- Dolphins CB Cordrea Tankersley (PUP)
- Eagles CB Jalen Mills (PUP)
- Seahawks DT Demarcus Christmas (PUP)
Players on the PUP list are only required to miss six weeks of the regular season, so every player listed above with the exception of Sternberger could technically be activated this weekend. Sternberger has officially been designated as one of Green Bay’s IR/return players, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com (Twitter link). Because he was originally placed on IR, Sternberger — a third-round rookie — will be absent for at least two more weeks.
