Kentrell Brice

Buccaneers Sign Kentrell Brice

The Buccaneers have signed former Packers safety Kentrell Brice to a one-year deal. Brice visited the Texans and Colts last week, but the Bucs ultimately won out.

The safety started a career-high 10 games last season (in 14 appearances) and compiled 50 tackles, one sack, and two passes defended. For what it’s worth, Pro Football Focus wasn’t too fond of his performance, ranking him in the bottom-six among 93 eligible safeties.

Brice, a former undrafted free agent out of Louisiana Tech, spent his entire three-year career with Green Bay up until today. He’s not a splashy add, but the Bucs plan to make more significant additions in the draft. The Bucs own the No. 5 pick in the draft and own all of their original choices through the first five rounds.

Three Teams Interested In DB Kentrell Brice

It sounds like three teams have interest in defensive back Kentrell Brice. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reports (via Twitter) that the former Packers safety is set to meet with the Colts today. This comes after the 24-year-old visited with the Texans yesterday. Demovsky notes that the Buccaneers also have interest in the free agent.

The Packers decided to non-tender Brice earlier this week after the team added defensive back Adrian Amos. Brice, a former undrafted free agent out of Louisiana Tech, had spent his entire three-year career with Green Bay, including a career-season in 2018.

The safety ultimately finished last season having started a career-high 10 games (in 14 appearances), compiling 50 tackles, one sack, two passes defended. Pro Football Focus wasn’t as fond of his performance last season, ranking him in the bottom-six among 93 eligible safeties.

Packers Tender WR Geronimo Allison

The Packers have tendered restricted free agent wide receiver Geronimo Allison at the original round level, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (Twitter link). Allison will collect $2.025MM for the 2019 season.

Allison is a former undrafted free agent, so Green Bay won’t receive any compensation if he signs elsewhere. However, the Packers have secured the right of first refusal, meaning they’ll be able to match any offer sheet that Allison receives.

Allison, 25, managed 20 receptions in four games last season before being placed on injured reserve with hamstring and groin issues. Despite his limited track record, Allison could be in for an expanded role next year, playing as Green Bay’s No. 3 receiver behind Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Additionally, the Packers have opted not to tender restricted free agent safety Kentrell Brice, tweets Ryan Wood of PackersNews.com, who notes Brice became obsolete after Green Bay signed fellow defensive back Adrian Amos.

Packers Fear Serious Injury For Jake Ryan

Jake Ryan enjoyed a breakout 2017 season, but the fourth-year linebacker may not have a chance to build on it. At least, not right away.

While it’s not certain just yet, the Packers fear one of their starting inside linebackers suffered a “significant and potentially season-ending” right knee injury, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. Pro Football Focus’ No. 19 overall linebacker last season, Ryan suffered this setback during an 11-on-11 drill at Packers practice Monday.

The former fourth-round pick, who’s entering a contract year, has started 27 games with Green Bay since his rookie season. If it’s determined Ryan will miss time, Demovsky notes third-round rookie Oren Burks could be thrust into action alongside Blake Martinez. The Packers have also been impressed with rookie UDFA Greer Martini, per Demovsky.

Ryan played 506 snaps last season, and although his 79 tackles were well off Martinez’s league-leading 142, PFF preferred his coverage to Martinez’s work as Green Bay’s other primary linebacker.

Safety Kentrell Brice, whom Demovsky writes may be the leading candidate to replace Morgan Burnett, was also carted away from practice Monday. Brice was running with Green Bay’s first-string defense. Josh Jones, a 2017 second-round pick, replaced Brice with the starting defense.
