Titans Cut Ropati Pitoitua, 11 Others

The Titans have made 12 roster moves today, moving their roster to 77 men, the club announced. Tennessee has until 3pm CT Tuesday to get to 75 players.

The Titans have made the following transactions:

Cut:

Waived/Injured:

Pitoitua, 31, seemed liked one of the likeliest cuts in the entire NFL. Pitoitua only played 31 defensive snaps last season, but was scheduled to count more than $3.8MM on the Titans’ salary cap. By releasing him, Tennessee will save $3.078MM.

Gallik, meanwhile, will revert to the Titans’ injured reserve list if he clears waivers.

Minor NFL Transactions: 8/12/16

Today’s minor moves:

  • The Titans have claimed linebacker Amarlo Herrera off waivers from the AFC South rival Colts, as Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com tweets. Herrera, an ex-Georgia Bulldog whom the Colts chose in the sixth round of last year’s draft, spent most of the season on Indianapolis’ practice squad. The 244-pounder appeared in three of the Colts’ games, though he failed to record any statistics. Herrera’s presence gives the Titans 89 players on their 90-man roster.

Minor NFL Transactions: 8/10/16

Here are today’s minor moves.

  • A sixth-round Colts pick in 2015, linebacker Amarlo Herrera could not stick on Indianapolis’ roster long. The team cut the second-year ‘backer midway through his second training camp and also waived/injured running back Abou Toure, Mike Chappell of IndySportsCentral reports (on Twitter). Toure will revert to the Colts’ IR if unclaimed. Drafted out of Georgia, Herrera played in three games for the Colts last season. The move to cut Herrera served as a football-0nly move despite it coming before Indianapolis’ preseason debut, per Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star (on Twitter).
  • The Broncos terminated former Browns first-rounder Phil Taylor from their IR, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle tweets. Taylor signed with the defending champions before the start of free agency.
  • The Panthers cut Roderick Byers, a UDFA guard from Clemson, with a failure to disclose physical condition designation, Wilson tweets.
  • The Cowboys claimed offensive lineman Mike McQueen off waivers from the Chargers and cut wide receiver Ed Eagan, Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports. San Diego initially signed McQueen, a rookie UDFA out of Ohio University who played mostly tackle for the Bobcats, after the draft.
  • The Rams signed defensive tackle Zach Colvin, a rookie free agent out of Bowling Green, Wilson reports (on Twitter).
  • The Bears placed Marquis Jackson on waivers after reaching an injury settlement, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune tweets. He was placed on waivers.
  • Titans safety Josh Aubrey has retired, as Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com tweets. Aubrey, 25, appeared in games for Cleveland in 2013 and Houston in 2014.
  • The Lions signed free agent cornerback Rashaad Reynolds and waived/injured cornerback Ian Wells, as Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com tweets.
  • The Falcons have signed running back Cyrus Gray, a former sixth-round pick of Kansas City, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com tweets. Gray will give Atlanta an extra RB as third-stringer Terron Ward is in a walking boot following a left ankle injury.
  • Defensive lineman Julien Obioha has cleared waivers and reverted to the Jets‘ IR, as Brian Costello of the New York Post tweets.

Colts Sign Josh Freeman, Ryan Lindley

4:07pm: The Colts have gotten back up to the 53-man roster limit by signing another quarterback, Ryan Lindley, the team announced in a press release. The move gives Indianapolis five signal-callers in total on its roster, including three healthy QBs, and gives the team another option for this Sunday.

2:39pm: The Colts have filled two openings on their 53-man roster, announcing today that they’ve signed quarterback Josh Freeman and promoted inside linebacker Amarlo Herrera from their practice squad. The team created two open spots on Monday by placing quarterback Charlie Whitehurst and guard Hugh Thornton on the injured reserve list, and created one more today by also sending linebacker Josh McNary to IR.

Since starting his career with the Buccaneers and then spending a little time in 2013 in Minnesota, Freeman has not appeared in a regular season game or even spent any real time on a club’s in-season roster. Most recently, he played for the Dolphins this summer and then joined the FXFL’s Brooklyn Bolts in the fall.

After working out for the Colts on Monday, Freeman becomes the second healthy quarterback on the roster, joining Stephen Morris. Assuming Andrew Luck and Matt Hasselbeck are unable to play this weekend, as is expected, either Freeman or Morris – who was signed off the Eagles’ practice squad last Thursday – will have to start for Indianapolis in its regular season finale.

We’ll have to wait and see whether Freeman gets a shot to play in Week 17, and if he’s a part of the Colts’ plans for 2016 at all.

Colts Release Todd Herremans

It wasn’t long ago that veteran guard Todd Herremans was one of the Colts’ more notable signings of the offseason, having been expected to bring some stability to the offensive line. Nine months later, Indianapolis has released Herremans with three weeks left in the regular season, the team announced today in a press release.

Herremans, a former Eagle, signed a one-year, $2.25MM deal with the Colts in March that could be worth up to $3.5MM. However, he lost his starting job in Indianapolis after just two weeks, and was made inactive for multiple games since then. The 33-year-old, who has started 126 games during his 11-year NFL career, will become an unrestricted free agent if and when he clears waivers.

The Colts also made two more 53-man roster moves today, announcing that they’ve signed free agent outside linebacker Andy Studebaker and waived inside linebacker Amarlo Herrera. Studebaker is expected to be a special-teams contributor.

Minor NFL Transactions: 12/8/15

We’ll track all of Tuesday’s minor transactions from around the NFL in this space, with the latest moves added to the top of the list throughout the day:

  • The Dolphins have re-signed tight end Brandon Williams to their active roster, waiving safety Jordan Kovacs in a corresponding move, the team announced today (Twitter links). Miami also opened up another roster spot by placing defensive tackle Robert Thomas on the injured reserve list.
  • Jets defensive end Mike Catapano has landed on IR due to a foot injury, with safety Ronald Martin getting the promotion from the practice squad to take his spot on the roster, the Jets announced today (via Twitter).
  • The Chiefs are signing offensive lineman Jarrod Pughsley from their practice squad to their 53-man roster, tweets Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star. The corresponding move to make room for Pughsley isn’t yet known.
  • The Falcons have released defensive tackle Ricky Havili-Heimuli from their injured reserve list, the team announced today (via Twitter). He’ll become a free agent if he clears waivers.

Earlier updates:

  • In the wake of Nick Boyle‘s suspension, and with Crockett Gillmore and Maxx Williams both battling injuries, the Ravens have added two tight ends to their roster. According to a press release, the club has promoted Konrad Reuland from its practice squad and signed veteran free agent Richard Gordon. Boyle was moved to the reserve/suspended list and cornerback Cassius Vaughn was cut to create space on the roster.
  • The Bills have also made a change at the tight end position, promoting Nick O’Leary from the practice squad and cutting veteran Matthew Mulligan, the team announced today. Mulligan had played a role this season for the Bills as a blocker and special-teamer, making the move a little surprising. Joe Buscaglia of WKBW wonders (via Twitter) if another team – perhaps the Ravens? – showed interest in O’Leary, prompting Buffalo to protect him.
  • The Eagles have signed outside linebacker Steven Means from the Texans‘ practice squad, the club announced today (via Twitter). Means will take over the roster spot vacated by Miles Austin, who was released on Monday.
  • With a Thursday night showdown against Arizona around the corner, the Vikings have made a handful of roster moves, announcing in a press release that they’ve signed safety Shaun Prater and elevated safety Anthony Harris from the practice squad. To make room for the incoming defensive backs, Minnesota placed safety Antone Exum on injured reserve and waived defensive end Justin Trattou.
  • The Colts are adding some depth at the linebacker spot by promoting linebacker Amarlo Herrera to their active roster, a source tells Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star (Twitter link). Jerrell Freeman and Nate Irving are banged up for Indianapolis.
  • The Browns have re-signed offensive lineman Darrian Miller to their 53-man roster just three days after cutting him, placing fullback Malcolm Johnson on injured reserve in a corresponding move, per a team release.
