Three Teams Interested In DB Kentrell Brice
It sounds like three teams have interest in defensive back Kentrell Brice. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reports (via Twitter) that the former Packers safety is set to meet with the Colts today. This comes after the 24-year-old visited with the Texans yesterday. Demovsky notes that the Buccaneers also have interest in the free agent.
The Packers decided to non-tender Brice earlier this week after the team added defensive back Adrian Amos. Brice, a former undrafted free agent out of Louisiana Tech, had spent his entire three-year career with Green Bay, including a career-season in 2018.
The safety ultimately finished last season having started a career-high 10 games (in 14 appearances), compiling 50 tackles, one sack, two passes defended. Pro Football Focus wasn’t as fond of his performance last season, ranking him in the bottom-six among 93 eligible safeties.
Jay Ajayi To Visit Colts
Jay Ajayi is set to visit with the Colts next week, reports NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport (via Twitter).
It was only two years ago that Ajayi had just wrapped up a 1,272-yard campaign with the Dolphins. Since that time, the 25-year-old has been traded, forced to take on a reduced role, and suffered a major injury, and this will presumably reduce his value on the open market.
After being acquired from Miami during the 2017 campaign, Ajayi ended up playing a significant role for Philly en route to a Super Bowl championship. While he was the starter heading into the 2018 season, he was forced to share carries with several of his teammates. Ajayi then tore his ACL during Week 5, ending his season early. He ultimately finished the campaign having compiled 184 rushing yards and three touchdowns in four games (three starts).
The Colts aren’t necessarily hurting for running back depth. Marlon Mack had a breakout season in 2019, and they’re also rostering a pair of 2018 draft picks in Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins.

Colts To Re-Sign CB Pierre Desir
The Colts have reached an agreement to re-sign cornerback Pierre Desir, according to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL.com (Twitter link). It’s a multi-year deal, tweets Garafolo, with the Indianapolis Star’s Joel Erickson noting Desir will be tied to the Colts for three seasons.
This contract will be worth up to $25MM, with Erickson adding (via Twitter) Desir will see $12MM guaranteed.
A former fourth-round pick of the Browns, Desir bounced around the NFL without much success until Indianapolis claimed him off waivers in 2017. He earned a starting role midway through that season, and subsequently started 12 games for the Colts in 2018. Desir, 28, posted 79 tackles, one interception, and eight passes defensed on an Indianapolis pass defense that ranked just 20th in DVOA.
Pro Football Focus graded Desir as the NFL’s 18th-best corner a year ago, but Football Outsiders’ charting data didn’t paint as rosy a picture. Among 85 qualifying corners, Desir ranked as roughly a league-average player: 52nd in success rate and 63rd in yards allowed per pass.
Desir will return to a Colts secondary that also includes Kenny Moore, Quincy Wilson, Nate Hairston, and Jalen Collins, but his new deal shouldn’t prevent Indianapolis from targeting another defensive backfield upgrade, either through free agency or the draft.
Colts Re-Sign Chris Milton
The Colts have re-signed special-teamer Christopher Milton, per Joel Erickson of the Indianapolis Star (via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk).
It’s a one-year, $1.75MM pact for Milton, who is a cornerback by trade. Milton played just 55 defensive snaps last season but was in on over 60% of Indianapolis’ special teams snaps.
The former UDFA out of Georgia Tech spent part of his 2016 rookie campaign on the practice squad before being promoted. He has now established himself as a worthy ST contributor and can still provide depth in the secondary if needed.
Latest On Le’Veon Bell
The market for Le’Veon Bell may not actually be all that robust. Albert Breer of The MMQB tweets that the Bears, Colts, Ravens, Texans and Bills “haven’t really been in it” for the All-Pro running back.
This is particularly notable following reports from earlier today that six teams were in the running for Bell: the Jets, Colts, Ravens, Packers, Texans, and Bills. With four of those teams out of the running (along with the Bears), that would seemingly mean that New York and Green Bay are going head-to-head for the running back’s services. The Raiders have also been mentioned as a potential suitor for Bell.
Breer notes that the market’s been tough for the former Steelers offensive weapon, and he adds that more teams may enter the bidding if the asking price drops. As of right now, there’s a feeling that Bell could be secured for a deal that will pay him between $11MM and $12MM per season.
Regardless of who’s in and who’s out of the bidding, we may get a resolution sooner than later. We learned earlier today that the Jets have given Bell a deadline to make a decision. If the Jets don’t hear back by that unreported time, they’ll likely move on to other free agent targets.
Le’Veon Bell Deciding Between Five Teams?
Free agents have been flying off the board but perhaps the biggest name, running back Le’Veon Bell, remains unsigned. The market does appear to be narrowing down for Bell’s services, and there’s a “good likelihood” he signs with one of the Jets, Colts, Ravens, Packers, Texans, or Bills, according to Josina Anderson of ESPN.com (Twitter link).
However, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com soon tweeted that the Colts are officially out on Bell, which would narrow down the list to five teams. Furthermore, the Packers have already spent a ton of money today on Adrian Amos, Za’Darius Smith, and Preston Smith, so they might not no longer be able to fit the massive contract Bell is seeking into their cap.
The Jets have been the team most heavily linked to Bell for months now. There have been conflicting reports about their level of interest, and rumors they’re concerned about his weight, but they’ve been the one constant when discussing Bell. The Jets are looking to add some excitement, need a running back, and have plenty of cap space, so they still make the most sense on paper.
The Ravens make some sense as well, as they’re looking for weapons for Lamar Jackson and are planning to have a very run-heavy offense. The Texans and Bills are more outside the box options, as both have established running backs. The Texans have Lamar Miller, while the Bills have LeSean McCoy and just added Frank Gore. Both Gore and McCoy are getting up there in age while the Texans could get out of Miller’s contract fairly easily, so they’re both definitely options.
Interestingly, Anderson’s list doesn’t include the Raiders. After trading for Antonio Brown, rumors began swirling that Jon Gruden would attempt to re-pair him with Bell in Oakland. That could still be the case, although they didn’t make Anderson’s shortlist.

Colts Tender WR Chester Rogers
Another Colts wide receiver transaction went down Monday, with Chester Rogers being tendered as a restricted free agent, per Stephen Holder of The Athletic (on Twitter).
Rogers will be tendered at the second-round level, per Pro Football Talk (via Twitter). That will bump the complementary wideout’s salary to nearly $3.1MM.
The Colts now have Devin Funchess in the fold, joining T.Y. Hilton. This stands to limit Rogers’ opportunities, but he made the most of them last season. Rogers caught 53 passes for 485 yards (second among Indianapolis wideouts) and two scores last season, his third with the Colts.
Indianapolis entered Monday with a league-high cap space figure, more than $100MM, so Chris Ballard is almost certainly not done adding to his team. The third-year Colts GM has been known to seek second-wave bargain signings and thus far has not spent big for one of this year’s prized talents. Though, it’s still early on that front.
