Giants Cut Isaiah Wilson
The Giants have released offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson from the practice squad, per a club announcement. The former Titans first-round pick is now free to sign with any of the league’s other 31 teams.
Wilson auditioned for the Giants in September and showed enough to earn a spot on the 16-man taxi squad. That’s where he’s been ever since, but he’s yet to see live action in 2021. Of course, the NFL had higher hopes for him last year when the Titans made him the No. 29 overall pick in the draft.
To date, Wilson has just one pro appearance (with four snaps) to his credit. After his rookie year, the Titans effectively gave him to the Dolphins in a swap of seventh-round picks. Sometime after that, he was arrested for a high-speed chase, leading the Dolphins to cut bait as well.
It’s hard to imagine any playoff-bound team adding Wilson to the 53-man roster, but it’s possible that another club could audition him with an eye on 2022. The rest of Giants, meanwhile, will close out the season against Washington on Sunday.

Giants Add Isaiah Wilson To Practice Squad
The Giants are signing former Titans first-rounder Isaiah Wilson to the practice squad (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport). Despite his turbulent Tennessee tenure, the offensive tackle could be a tremendous value addition for the G-Men.
Wilson auditioned for the Giants on Tuesday and showed enough to earn a spot on the 16-man taxi squad. Of course, the NFL had higher hopes for him last year when the Titans made him the No. 29 overall pick in the draft.
The Titans traded Wilson to the Dolphins after a four-snap rookie season. Then, he ran into extensive off-field trouble as a rookie and encountered more this year, with a January arrest involving a high-speed chase leading the Dolphins to cut bait as well.
The Giants could certainly use Wilson’s help up front with Nick Gates and Shane Lemieux are out for the season. If Wilson impresses in practice, he might be able to support former Georgia teammate Andrew Thomas and veteran Nate Solder on the outside.
Giants Work Out T Isaiah Wilson
Despite a turbulent Titans tenure, Isaiah Wilson has managed to draw interest from multiple teams in recent days. The Giants worked out the 2020 first-round pick Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets.
This audition followed Wilson’s Colts meeting. While Wilson’s stock has fallen off a cliff since the Titans made him the No. 29 overall pick last year, the young tackle has resurfaced and could have another chance soon.
The Titans traded Wilson to the Dolphins after a four-snap rookie season. The Georgia product ran into extensive off-field trouble as a rookie and encountered more this year, with a January arrest involving a high-speed chase leading the Dolphins to cut bait as well. After several months off the radar, Wilson is aiming to catch on with a third team.
The Giants have gone through considerable issues on their offensive front, an area that has been a problem for several years. Both Nick Gates and Shane Lemieux are out for the season, with the former’s career possibly in jeopardy. At tackle, the Giants are starting ex-Wilson Georgia teammate Andrew Thomas — chosen 25 spots before Wilson last year — and veteran Nate Solder. They are trying 2020 third-round pick Matt Peart at guard, with the injuries causing some early-season promotions.
At Georgia, Wilson lined up opposite Thomas at right tackle and earned second-team All-SEC acclaim in 2019. After letting Jack Conklin walk in free agency, the Titans had Wilson penciled in as their heir apparent on the right side. His myriad issues interfered with that vision, however, and resulted in a quick trip to the workout circuit. Even at 22, Wilson is already running out of chances.
Colts Audition T Isaiah Wilson
Ahead of the Colts’ Week 3 game against the Titans, they are working out a recent Tennessee first-round bust. Isaiah Wilson trekked to Indianapolis for an audition, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets.
One of the 2020 draft’s top tackle prospects, Wilson flamed out of Tennessee fast. After myriad issues limited Wilson to four snaps as a rookie, the Titans traded him to the Dolphins earlier this year. The Dolphins waived Wilson not long after acquiring him, leaving last year’s 29th overall pick out of football 11 months after being drafted.
Wilson’s laundry list of issues since being drafted include two arrests — one for DUI in 2020 and another after he was involved in a high-speed car chase in January — and a trespass warning for attending a party on the Tennessee State campus. Wilson had two stints on the Titans’ reserve/COVID-19 list and ended the season on Tennessee’s NFI list, that coming after a team-imposed suspension. The former Georgia blocker also tweeted about potentially being done with football in February.
This Colts meeting marks Wilson’s first workout since the Dolphins cut him in March. Indianapolis has experienced persistent problems at tackle this year, however.
Eric Fisher made his debut in Week 2 after completing Achilles rehab, but standout right tackle Braden Smith is currently sidelined with foot and thumb injuries. The Colts declared Smith out for the Titans matchup. Indianapolis also lost Sam Tevi for the season with an ACL tear.
Latest On FA OL Isaiah Wilson
Things aren’t looking up for Isaiah Wilson. We learned today that the embattled lineman was arrested back in January following “a high-speed car chase” in Georgia (via ESPN’s Turron Davenport).
According to the police report, an officer witnessed a car driving at speeds of 123 mph, leading to a pursuit. The chase was eventually called off when speeds exceeded 140 mph. The car ultimately crashed, and after observing Wilson emerge from the car’s sunroof, an ICE officer placed the player under arrest. A female was also in the vehicle and was arrested after police found a metal grinder filled with marijuana.
Per Davenport, Wilson was charged with “felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, speeding in a construction zone, reckless driving, reckless conduct, possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana, and possession and use of drug-related objects.”
The 29th overall pick of last year’s draft, Wilson was traded from the Titans to Miami earlier this month. It didn’t take him long to fall out of favor with his new team, as he allegedly “refused team efforts to help him to get his life on track.” The Dolphins decided to cut bait with the lineman this past weekend, and the 22-year0old passed through waivers unclaimed. According to Davenport, the Dolphins were aware of Wilson’s arrest prior to making the trade.
The offensive lineman from Georgia appeared in just one game as a rookie, playing only three offensive snaps, and was also suspended at one point for a violation of team rules. Considering his age and draft pedigree, Wilson will probably get a final chance from another organization, but continued off-the-field issues won’t help his case.
Isaiah Wilson Clears Waivers
Isaiah Wilson is officially a free agent. The embattled former first-round pick has cleared waivers after he was cut by the Dolphins and is now free to sign with any team, as Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets.
It’s not exactly shocking, as it was doubtful any team out there would want to assume Wilson’s contract. The 29th overall pick of last year’s draft, Wilson was traded from the Titans to Miami just this past week. It didn’t take him long to fall out of favor with the Dolphins, as he allegedly “refused team efforts to help him to get his life on track” before getting the axe.
Wilson reportedly showed up late for his physical, was late for his orientation with the organization, and skipped a pair of workouts that he had committed to. The offensive lineman from Georgia appeared in just one game as a rookie, playing only three offensive snaps, and was also suspended at one point for a violation of team rules.
Things didn’t work out right from the start, and it was one of the quickest implosions for a first-round pick in recent memory. He only turned 22 last month and due to his draft pedigree will likely get another shot from somebody, assuming he wants it, but he’s running out of chances.
Dolphins Cut OL Isaiah Wilson
Isaiah Wilson‘s stint with the Dolphins has ended before it really began. Miami has cut the embattled offensive lineman, reports Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald.
According to Beasley, the Dolphins tried to help the struggling offensive lineman following his trade to the organization. However, the player “refused team efforts to help him to get his life on track.” Wilson reportedly showed up late for his physical, was late for his orientation with the organization, and skipped a pair of workouts that he had committed to. Beasley adds that the player also recently posted videos to social media that showed him “inhaling a vape and dancing shirtless on a car.” The Dolphins decision to cut the lineman came before those videos were posted.
The 2020 first-round pick played just four snaps as a rookie, running into multifront trouble last year. He was issued a trespass warning for attending a party at Tennessee State University last summer. That preceded a September DUI arrest. The Titans suspended Wilson in December and ended his season by placing him on the reserve/NFI list days later. Wilson voiced a desire to leave the Titans, in a since-deleted tweet, earlier this year.
That led to Wilson’s trade to Miami earlier this month. The Dolphins didn’t give up a whole lot for the lineman’s services; the team sent a 2021 seventh-round pick to the Titans in exchange for Wilson and a 2022 seventh-rounder.
Now, the lineman will hit waivers, but considering both the Titans’ and Dolphins’ willingness to bail on the highly-touted prospect, there’s a good chance he’ll hit free agency.
Dolphins To Acquire Titans T Isaiah Wilson
The Titans are moving on from Isaiah Wilson after just one season. They will trade the 2020 first-round tackle to the Dolphins, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter).
Titans GM Jon Robinson issued an ultimatum of sorts to Wilson recently, but word soon emerged that the Titans were shopping the disappointing blocker. The Dolphins, who already drafted a first-round tackle in 2020, will acquire another Round 1 edge blocker from that class.
The Dolphins will send a 2021 seventh-round pick to the Titans in exchange for Wilson and a 2022 seventh-rounder, Albert Breer of SI.com tweets.
Considering the price the Titans paid to land Wilson — the No. 29 overall pick last year — this marks a major discount for the Dolphins, who will be landing Wilson at a cheaper rate as well. The Titans will incur $9MM-plus in dead money by trading Wilson after his rookie year. Though, it remains to be seen if Wilson’s troublesome 2020 will void any guarantees in his rookie contract. The Dolphins were high on Wilson going into the 2020 draft, per Wolfe (on Twitter), and they are taking a flier on a player who is signed through 2023.
Wilson played just four snaps as a rookie, running into multifront trouble last year. The Dolphins, who selected Austin Jackson with the third of their three 2020 Round 1 picks, will give Wilson a second chance.
The former Georgia tackle’s stock has certainly nosedived from where it was at this point last year. The Titans selected him with the hope he would succeed Jack Conklin at right tackle. Former swing tackle Dennis Kelly ended up starting there instead. Kelly is under contract through 2022. The Dolphins drafted tackle Robert Hunt in the 2020 second round and still have guard/tackle Jesse Davis under contract.
