The Cardinals’ moves come as a reaction to yesterday’s injury news. Baccellia’s roster spot was opened up in the short-term by the injury to Rondale Moore, but he won’t simply be a stop-gap. Arizona signed the 25-year-old to a two-year deal to remain on the main roster, per Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network (Twitter link). A UDFA out of Washington, Baccellia has yet to make a regular season NFL appearance.
Likewise, the fact that Ford will miss at least the first four weeks of the season makes the re-acquisition of Garcia a logical one. The former fourth-rounder has plenty of guard experience, including his three seasons spent in Arizona. It was only in 2021 that he logged any starts, but he could provide veteran depth behind Justin Pugh at least until Ford is able to return.
Addison, 35, was one of several veteran signings the Texans made this offseason to add depth to their front seven. He had a productive season with the Bills last season, notching seven sacks despite not starting any games. In his absence, Harris and Pierre-Louis will provide depth in the edge rush department on Sunday, and likely the short-term future as well.
Quick reminder that standard game day practice squad promotions are a recent development from the new CBA and COVID-19 seasons. Essentially, each team is able to promote two players from the practice squad to the active roster for game days. The players will automatically revert back to the practice squad after the game, not needing to clear waivers before rejoining the developmental roster. A player can only be promoted three times per season. If a team would like to promote a player for a fourth game, they’ll need to go through the normal method of creating space on the 53-man roster to promote them and have them clear waivers before placing them back on the practice squad. That is the difference between “Signed to 53-man roster” from the practice squad and “Promoted from practice squad.”
Browns Add Josh Rosen To Practice Squad
The Browns made multiple roster moves at quarterback this week, the most notable being the waiver claim of 2021 third-round pick Kellen Mond. Temporarily off Cleveland’s roster, Josh Rosen is still in the team’s plans.
After not being on the Browns’ 53-man roster Tuesday, the former top-10 pick is back with the team on a practice squad deal. Rosen, who signed with the Browns just before training camp, will be in position as the franchise’s de facto QB4 — behind Jacoby Brissett, Joshua Dobbs and Mond. Deshaun Watson‘s 11-game suspension began Tuesday.
For the time being, the carousel that has sent Rosen to six teams since the 2019 draft is stopping. But the UCLA product’s career has obviously not unfolded as most expected. Rosen spent one season with the Cardinals, was traded to the Dolphins a day after Arizona’s Kyler Murray pick and has since been with the Buccaneers, 49ers and Falcons.
Rosen, 25, has only thrown 11 regular-season passes since the Dolphins cut bait after the 2019 season, all coming for last season’s Falcons squad. The Browns also added defensive lineman Isaac Rochell to their taxi squad Thursday.
Despite Kevin Stefanski returning for his third season, the Browns’ four quarterbacks are all new. The team dealt the farm for Watson in March and made the Case Keenum-for-Brissett switch soon after. Dobbs signed with the team in April. The former Steelers backup beat out Rosen for the third-string job during the preseason. The Vikings bailed on Mond after just one season, and although they were planning to keep developing him via a spot on their 16-man practice squad, the Browns’ claim nixed those plans.

Browns Sign Isaac Rochell, Javon Wims
The Browns have made a depth addition on each side of the ball. The team announced Wednesday the signings of defensive end Isaac Rochell and receiver Javon Wims.
Rochell, who will turn 27 later this week, began his career with the Chargers. In four years there, he rarely started, but played a notable role in the team’s defensive front. His best season came in 2018, when he registered 29 tackles and five of his 9.5 career sacks.
His play earned him a deal from the Colts last offseason. The value of the one-year contract outweighed what the Chargers could have paid to keep him, but his production points to letting him leave having been the right decision. In 12 games, Rochell totalled 17 tackles and no sacks. Now, he will join a Browns team which just recently signed Stephen Weatherly.
Wims, 27, is also joining a new team for the second time in his career. A seventh-round pick of the Bears in 2018, he started seven of 33 games in Chicago. He recorded 18 receptions and 186 yards in 2019, but made just 10 total catches in his other two campaigns. After being waived by the Bears, he spent 2021 on the Raiders’ practice squad.
These deals likely won’t have any significant effect on Cleveland’s cap space, meaning that reunions with the likes of Jadeveon Clowney and Jarvis Landry are still possible. In any event, these two represent depth at key positions for a team looking to seriously contend in the AFC in 2022.
Colts To Sign DE Isaac Rochell
The Colts have agreed to sign Isaac Rochell (Twitter link via ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter). It’s a one-year, $2.5MM deal for the former Chargers defensive end that can reach $3MM via incentives.

Rochell, 26 in April, had a solid season for the Bolts, starting six games in place of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram while compiling 29 tackles and 2.5 sacks. His best season to date came in 2018 as a reserve. That year, he recorded a career-high five sacks and six tackles for loss. Still, the Chargers opted against cuffing him as a restricted free agent.
The tender would have paid Rochell less than his new Colts deal. Even at the right of first refusal rate, Rochell would have been looking at a $2.13MM salary. Ultimately, Rochell fell up. Now, he’ll look to build on his 9.5 career sacks in Indianapolis.
RFA/ERFA Tender Decisions: 3/15/21
We’ve compiled a handful of tender decisions below:
- The Cardinals are tendering linebacker Dennis Gardeck at a second-round value, which is worth around $3.38MM. The former undrafted free agent has spent his entire three-year career with Arizona, primarily appearing on special teams. However, the 26-year-old took on a bigger defensive role in 2020, finished with seven sacks in only 93 snaps. Gardeck tore his ACL late in the season, so his status for 2021 is in doubt.
- The Chargers won’t be tendering defensive end Isaac Rochell, which comes as a bit of a surprise. The 25-year-old had a solid season for Los Angeles, starting six games while compiling 29 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Rochell has 9.5 career sacks and 12 QB hits in 51 career games.
- The Packers have tendered wideout Malik Taylor, according to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero (via Twitter). After spending much of his rookie season on Green Bay’s practice squad, Taylor managed to appear in 15 games for the Packers this past season. He ultimately hauled in five receptions for 66 yards and one touchdown. He also returned a pair of kicks and compiled three tackles.
- The Bills won’t be tendering cornerback Levi Wallace, according to ESPN’s Field Yates (via Twitter). However, there’s still a chance the 25-year-old lands back in Buffalo. The cornerback has started 28 games for Buffalo over the past two years, compiling four interceptions and 17 passes defended.
- The Cowboys are tendering wideout Cedrick Wilson and nose tackle Antwaun Woods. Wilson has appeared in 22 games over the past two years, compiling 25 touches for 223 yards from scrimmage. Woods has started 32 of his 39 games for Dallas over the past three years, compiling 80, four tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks.
