The Panthers were going to land Stevens as an UDFA back in April before the Saints snagged him in the seventh-round. He was recently cut from New Orleans’ practice squad last week. Stevens is a diverse athlete who played a Taysom Hill-esque role at Penn State before transferring to Mississippi State for the 2019 college season. His signing could be an indication the Panthers are worried about Teddy Bridgewater‘s status for Sunday, but since they had previous reported interest in Stevens it could be completely unrelated.
Ravens Work Out TE Jordan Leggett
The Ravens hosted tight end Jordan Leggett on a visit, according to ESPN.com’s Field Yates (on Twitter). Leggett has been on the workout trail in recent weeks, but has yet to sign with a club.

The Patriots auditioned Leggett earlier this month as they explore reinforcements for their inexperienced tight end group. The Ravens might not be as desperate for help at the position, but they could use a strong No. 3 TE behind Nick Boyle and Mark Andrews. Hayden Hurst, who once seemed set for a larger role in Baltimore, was shipped out to the Falcons in March.
The Ravens are still shy of the 80-man roster max, giving them the chance to add a couple more players between now and the final cutdown deadline. As Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com (on Twitter) notes, the Ravens are also taking a look at wide receivers Siaosi Mariner and DeAndrew White, plus punter Johnny Townsend.
Patriots Meet With TE Jordan Leggett, DT Darius Kilgo
The Patriots are on the verge of adding some reinforcements. Tight end Jordan Leggett and defensive tackle Darius Kilgo will meet with the Pats on Monday and, if everything checks out, they’ll sign on (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport).

Leggett, a 2017 fifth-round pick of the Jets, was originally set to serve as their top tight end in his rookie year. Instead, a knee injury wiped out his would-be first season. Leggett was only targeted occasionally when he finally debuted in 2018 and the Jets moved on from him in the following offseason. The Bucs scooped him up and mostly kept him on the practice squad in 2019. Then, late last month, they released him outright.
If signed, Leggett would provide the Pats with some extra insurance for their young tight end group. After Matt LaCosse‘s opt out, they’re left with a group headlined by third-round rookies Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene, plus the relatively inexperienced Ryan Izzo. The Pats are also said to have interest in veteran tight end Delanie Walker.
Kilgo, a 2016 sixth-round pick of the Broncos, has spent some time with the Patriots in the past, though he has never appeared in a game for them. For his career, Kilgo has appeared in 29 games for the Broncos and Titans.

Buccaneers Promote Franklin, Mickens
The Buccaneers promoted cornerback John Franklin and wide receiver Jaydon Mickens from the practice squad to the active roster on Tuesday. To make room, the Buccaneers waived wide receiver Ishmael Hyman and tight end Jordan Leggett.
Franklin has been playing cornerback on the Bucs’ taxi squad for the past six weeks, but he also played quarterback in college. After running the scout team offense in practice last week to mimic Deshaun Watson, it’s possible that Franklin could also see time under center in the Bucs’ season finale or at some point next year, if he sticks on the roster.
“Johnathan Franklin did an unbelievable job being Deshaun Watson last week at quarterback,” said head coach Bruce Arians. “He gave our defense a tremendous look. [He] made me think about, ‘Hmm, what do we want to do with him?’ He’s really a corner, but he’s been a quarterback and he’s been a receiver. He’s a really good athlete – it’s just finding a niche for him.”
Four new players have debuted for the Bucs over the last couple of weeks as they take a look ahead towards their 2020 plans. Franklin and Mickens have a chance to join that group. Mickens already has 16 regular season games under his belt thanks to his time with the Jaguars.
Mickens entered the league as UDFA with the Raiders in 2016 and spent his entire rookie season on Oakland’s practice squad. Since then, he’s spent time with the Jaguars (taxi squad and active roster) and had a stay on the Panthers’ training camp roster over the summer. In 16 games for the Jags, he recorded six receptions for 77 yards and two touchdowns. He also averaged 8.9 yards on 39 punt returns and 21.1 yards on eight kickoff returns.
The Bucs will wrap up the 2019 season against the Falcons on Sunday.
