The defending AFC champions are looking to run it back with much of the same roster as last year. Thirty-eight of this year’s 53-man roster were on last year’s Super Bowl roster, with the differences coming on offensive line and at the bottom of the depth chart.
Additionally, it appears all six 2022 draft picks made the roster for the Bengals, as well as one undrafted rookie signing. With so many starters returning from the Super Bowl team, all the rookies will be expected to contribute in backup roles. First- and second-round defensive backs Daxton Hill and Cam Taylor-Britt figure to factor heavily into the defensive rotation, though. Also in the secondary, cornerback Allan George is the lone UDFA from this year’s crop to make Cincinnati’s final roster.
To call it the final roster is a bit misleading as the Bengals will likely follow their own trends from last season, setting the roster up for multiple post-deadline moves. The roster currently includes 11 defensive backs, not including starting safety Jessie Bates, working currently on a roster exemption. Taylor-Britt could likely find his way to the four-week injured reserve list after undergoing core surgery recently. Defensive end Khalid Kareem will join Taylor-Britt on short-term IR, according to head coach Zac Taylor, with a hamstring injury.
Many expect Cincinnati to mirror a roster move from last year with wide receiver Thomas. Thomas is a vested veteran who will avoid the waiver wire and is expected to re-sign with the team after a corresponding roster move, exactly what he did last year.
Finally, two position battles have been effectively decided with the waiving of long snapper Adomitis and punter Chrisman. Both intended to challenge incumbents Clark Harris and Kevin Huber from their long-time starting jobs. After avoiding being unseated, Huber is now on track to set a franchise record for games played in a Bengals uniform. Harris is close behind, trailing Huber by just six games.

Steelers Sign USFL DL Doug Costin
More USFL-to-NFL connections are happening ahead of training camps opening. The Steelers became the latest team to tap into the spring-summer league Tuesday, signing defensive lineman Doug Costin.
The Steelers announced a one-year deal for Costin, who worked out for the team Monday. Costin secured a 90-man roster spot after auditioning along with four other USFL players. Defensive end Freedom Akinmoladun, defensive tackle Domenique Davis, defensive tackle Dondrea Tillman and defensive tackle Willie Yarbary rounded out the workout, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets.
While Costin played in the USFL this year, he has NFL starting experience. Costin started nine games for the Jaguars in 2020. The Miami University (Ohio) product recorded 32 tackles (three for loss) as a rookie but only played in one game with the Jags in 2021. He spent time on the Bengals’ practice squad leading up to Super Bowl LVI last season.
Costin joins select other USFLers in receiving an NFL opportunity. The Cowboys signed linebacker Christian Sam, and the Commanders added defensive backs DeJuan Neal and Channing Stribling. The Saints are also set to work out USFL running back Darius Victor.

Jets Sign 9 Undrafted Free Agents
In this unusual offseason, teams’ UDFA classes are emerging at a slower pace. The Jets have announced theirs. Here is Gang Green’s full list:
- Lawrence Cager, WR (Georgia)
- George Campbell, WR (West Virginia)
- Shyheim Carter, DB (Alabama)
- Domenique Davis, DL (Pembroke)
- Javelin Guidry, DB (Utah)
- Jared Hilbers, OL (Washington)
- Bryce Huff, LB (Memphis)
- Lamar Jackson, DB (Nebraska)
- Sterling Johnson, DL (Coastal Carolina)
Both wide receivers the Jets drafted transferred from other Division I-FBS schools before the 2019 season, with Cager spending most of his college career at Miami and Campbell playing at Florida State for much of his. Both will look the part in Jets camp. Cager is 6-foot-5; Campbell goes 6-4. Campbell had by far his most productive college season in 2019, averaging 24.7 yards per catch and leading the Mountaineers with seven touchdown grabs. Cager caught a career-high 33 passes in his Hurricanes season, turning those into 476 yards. The Jets drafted one wide receiver and declared Quincy Enunwa out for the year.
Hilbers was the Huskies’ starting left tackle in 2018 but lined up at right tackle last season. Huff led Memphis in sacks over the past two seasons. He recorded 9.5 as a junior to go along with 19.5 tackles for loss. Prior to moving to the Huskers’ defensive backfield and becoming a three-year starter, Jackson was a high-end high school quarterback recruit. He ranked higher than the NFL’s other Lamar Jackson in that regard.
A top-10 cornerback recruit out of high school, Carter started two years as a safety for the Crimson Tide. He returned two interceptions for scores in 2018. Guidry brings an intriguing athletic profile. The ex-high school sprint phenom’s 4.29-second 40-yard dash time trailed only Henry Ruggs‘ at the Combine. While the top pros in U.S. sprinting often do not compete at the Indoor Track and Field Championships, Guidry placed sixth in the 60-meter dash at the 2019 U.S. meet — despite Utah not having a men’s track team. On the field, the 5-9 corner started 25 games with the Utes. The Jets drafted one corner, Virginia’s Bryce Hall, this year.
