  • Released: LB Power Echols

Las Vegas Raiders

Miami Dolphins

New Orleans Saints

  • Signed: QB/WR Tommy Mellott, DT Coziah Izzard

New York Jets

Seattle Seahawks

Tennessee Titans

With backup quarterback Aidan O’Connell starting the season on injured reserve, the Raiders – who already traded for Kenny Pickettadded some more veteran depth by signing Driskel. The 32-year-old has spent the last seven years in the NFL but only took one snap for the Commanders last season. Now, Driskel will join rookie QB Cam Miller on the practice squad in Las Vegas.

Dolphins Claim CB JuJu Brents, To Re-Sign RB Jeff Wilson

The Colts cut ties with JuJu Brents on Tuesday, but the young cornerback will remain tied to his second-round contract. The Dolphins claimed Brents, veteran reporter Jordan Schultz tweets.

In addition to claiming Brents, the Dolphins are reuniting with Jeff Wilson on a practice squad deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweets. The veteran Mike McDaniel charge did not make the 49ers’ 53-man roster, but the Dolphins have dangled an opportunity. Wilson played in Miami from 2022-24 but saw his role diminish as the tenure wore on. With Miami banged up at running back presently, Wilson will return.

Eyed as a starter in Indianapolis’ Gus Bradley scheme, Brents had been unable to stay healthy. The Indianapolis native missed eight games as a rookie and 15 last season. Brents, 25, suffered a knee injury in Week 1 last year and became the rare player to only play in his team’s first and last games in a season. In Colts camp this year, however, Brents missed extensive time with a hamstring injury. Despite Indianapolis losing third-round rookie Justin Walley, the team did not hold onto Brents as it transitions to Lou Anarumo‘s system.

The Colts cut the former No. 44 overall pick days after signing Xavien Howard, one of the longest-tenured DBs in Dolphins history. Miami had a veteran group in place post-Howard in 2024, but circumstances changed radically this year. The Dolphins released Kendall Fuller and traded Jalen Ramsey. They later saw Artie Burns and Kader Kohou suffer ACL tears.

The Dolphins also placed former second-round pick Cam Smith on the reserve/NFI list, sidelining the disappointing draftee for at least four games. They released Mike Hilton on Tuesday, leading to a Colts visit (as these teams’ CB paths remain intertwined), and signed Rasul Douglas. The team also retained Jack Jones, a late-summer addition. In addition to the Smith move, Miami waived DB Isaiah Johnson.

Acquired via trade at the 2022 deadline, Wilson has played for McDaniel for most of his career. The former 49ers assistant traded for Wilson in his first year as Dolphins HC, and Miami re-signed the Raheem Mostert sidekick in 2023. The Dolphins drafting De’Von Achane and Jaylen Wright, however, changed Wilson’s standing. Wilson totaled just 57 rushing yards on 16 carries last season — after accumulating just 188 in 2023. The 29-year-old RB does have scheme knowledge here and stands to help while Achane and Wright are battling injuries; the latter is not expected to play in Week 1.

Bears Work Out CB Vernon Hargreaves

The Bears worked out a trio of cornerbacks today. Per Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com (on Twitter), the team auditioned Vernon Hargreaves III, Davontae Harris, and Isaiah Johnson. The team also hosted defensive lineman Trevon Coley and Josh Mauro.

Hargreaves inked an extension with the Texans last offseason and entered the 2022 campaign as a starting cornerback. The former first-round pick started five of his eight games with Houston, collecting 27 tackles and one interception. He was released in November and ended up catching on with the Bengals for their Super Bowl run, starting one of his four regular season games. Despite being inactive for the Super Bowl, Hargreaves was penalized 15 yards for taunting following an end-zone interception by teammate Jessie Bates.

Harris has seen time with five different organizations since entering the NFL in 2018. He most recently got into six games with the Chargers and 49ers last season. Johnson had stints on the Cowboys, Steelers, and Cardinals practice squads in 2021 but didn’t get into a game.

The workout isn’t necessarily an indictment on projected starters Jaylon Johnson and rookie Kyler Gordon. Instead, the team could be looking for some depth to compete with the likes of Lamar Jackson, Kindle Vildor, BoPete Keyes, and Greg Stroman for backup reps.

Coleman started 29 games for the Browns between the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He’s only seen time in 13 games since that time in stints with the Colts and Cardinals. He joined the Titans last offseason but injured his foot during the preseason, knocking him out for the season. Mauro was an on-and-off starter for the Cardinals, and after two seasons serving in a similar role with the Giants and Raiders, he returned to Arizona for the 2020 and 2021 campaign. He got into five games last season, collecting one sack.

Green Bay Packers

Houston Texans

Jacksonville Jaguars

Las Vegas Raiders

Howard had recently also worked out for the Saints, along with Bo Scarbrough, according to Nick Underhill at New Orleans Football Network. Howard has bounced between Philadelphia and Miami with limited success since averaging 1,123 rushing yards per season and totaling 24 rushing touchdowns in his first three seasons with the Bears. Injuries and limited productivity have really hurt Howard’s success over the past three years.
