49ers S Jaquiski Tartt To Return From IR
Accustomed to lengthier IR stints, Jaquiski Tartt made a quick return from his latest injury bout. The veteran safety is back on the 49ers’ active roster, missing the minimum three games.
San Francisco activated the first-string DB on Saturday, doing so after Tartt returned to practice earlier this week. However, the 49ers did not make the same move with Dre Greenlaw. The starting linebacker remains on IR, though he also returned to practice this week. The 49ers also promoted cornerback Davontae Harris from their practice squad.
Tartt suffered a knee contusion in Week 6. The seventh-year vet has battled more troublesome injuries — including a broken arm in 2017 and a turf toe issue last year, one that sidelined him into training camp — and has missed 31 games since the arm injury began this run of setbacks. He has missed at least three games in five straight seasons.
Nevertheless, the 49ers have continued to turn to Tartt as a starter. They did so for the first six games this season. Pro Football Focus slots Tartt 47th among safeties this season, a middle-of-the-pack position for a player who has made 56 career starts. Tartt has 32 tackles (three for loss) this year.

49ers Release CB Buster Skrine
The 49ers may not be playing in Week 6, but that didn’t stop the team from reshuffling their cornerbacks depth chart. The team announced this evening that they’ve activated cornerback Davontae Harris from injured reserve. To make room on the roster, the 49ers released cornerback Buster Skrine.
Harris, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Ravens in late August, and San Francisco promptly placed him on IR. The former fifth-round pick has seen time in 30 career games, including a 2020 campaign where he appeared in 11 games (two starts) between the Broncos and Ravens.
Skrine joined the 49ers in late September, and he saw time on three special teams snaps during the 49ers’ Week 4 loss to the Seahawks. The 32-year-old previously started 92 of his 152 games across 10 professional seasons. He got into 12 games (three starts) for the Bears in 2020, collecting 66 tackles and one forced fumble.
Skrine was listed as the backup nickelback behind K’Waun Williams, so there’s a chance Harris slides into that role. Otherwise, he’ll be competing with the likes of Josh Norman, Dontae Johnson, Ambry Thomas, and Dre Kirkpatrick to get reps behind Emmanuel Moseley and Deommodore Lenoir.

Ravens Re-Sign Davontae Harris
The Ravens got a jump start on their spring cleaning by releasing a host of players in January, including defensive back Davontae Harris. This week, they re-signed Harris to a brand new deal, per the league’s transactions wire.
It was an unusual flurry of transactions by the Ravens, who were effectively cutting veterans as a professional courtesy. After Harris, fellow DB Tramon Williams, running back Mark Ingram, quarterback RG3, and wide receiver De’Anthony Harris were released, they were eligible to join playoff teams. Or, at minimum, engage in talks for 2021 contracts elsewhere.
The Ravens plucked Harris off waivers from the Broncos towards the end of the year. He went on to suit up in four games and register ten tackles before suffering an ankle injury. After previous stints with the Bengals and Broncos, he’ll try to stick with the Ravens for next season.
Ravens Waive QB Robert Griffin III
The Ravens have officially waived quarterback Robert Griffin III. The team will also cut defensive backs Davontae Harris and Tramon Williams, plus wide receiver De’Anthony Harris.
The Ravens got a jump start on their spring cleaning this week by releasing Griffin & Co, plus running back Mark Ingram. It all amounts to a professional courtesy, since the Ravens were eliminated by the Bills on Saturday.
Griffin first joined the Ravens as a backup for Joe Flacco and stuck around to be Lamar Jackson‘s primary backstop. In three years, RG3 started twice and threw one touchdown against four interceptions. One of those starts came this year, a 19-14 loss to the rival Steelers.
The former No. 2 overall pick tweeted that “the best is yet to come,” an indication that he’ll seek another job in 2021. Griffin, who won the Heisman Trophy in 2011, turns 31 in February.
