Orlando Scandrick To Visit Texans

In moving their roster down to 53 players, the Eagles released Orlando Scandrick this week. While it is still possible the parties reunite, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com tweets the veteran cornerback will visit the Texans in the meantime.

Scandrick will trek to Houston on Monday. The Texans made major changes to their roster on Saturday, adding Laremy Tunsil, Kenny Stills, Carlos Hyde and Barkevious Mingo to it — while also trading away Jadeveon Clowney. The Texans’ cornerback situation also changed this offseason.

Houston lost Kareem Jackson, Kevin Johnson and Tyrann Mathieu and added Bradley Roby, Tashaun Gipson and Jahleel Addae. They drafted Lonnie Johnson Jr. and Xavier Crawford in the second and sixth rounds, respectively, and also made a depth trade in acquiring Keion Crossen from the Patriots.

Scandrick has logged 11 NFL seasons, spending much of that time as a slot corner. He played in 15 games for the Chiefs last season, starting seven.

Chiefs Place Chad Henne On IR

The Chiefs carried Chad Henne onto their 53-man roster but will not have him at practice for at least six weeks. Henne will be placed on IR. Matt Moore took his place as Kansas City’s backup quarterback.

Additionally, the Chiefs re-signed Jeff Allen and released Jeremiah Attaochu. The Chiefs released Allen on Saturday. Their former second-round pick already had multiple stints on the roster; he’ll be back as a depth piece up front. The Chiefs signed Attaochu earlier this year, one of several new edge players brought in under DC Steve Spagnuolo.

Henne cannot return to the Chiefs’ active roster for at least eight weeks. The veteran passer recently underwent ankle surgery.

Moore and Patrick Mahomes are the only quarterbacks on Kansas City’s roster. Moore has not played since the 2017 season. The Chiefs, however, signed Kyle Shurmur to their practice squad. A rookie out of Vanderbilt, Shurmur is Giants HC Pat Shurmur’s son.

Giants Place CB Sam Beal On IR, Sign TE Eric Tomlinson

Eric Tomlinson doesn’t have to move very far. A day after being cut by the Jets, the tight end is being signed by the Giants, the team announced today.

To make room for Tomlinson on the 53-man roster, the Giants placed second-year cornerback Sam Beal on injured reserve. The Giants took Beal in the third-round of the 2018 Supplemental Draft, and he’s yet to appear in a game for them. Beal was a highly regarded prospect coming out of Western Michigan, but had shoulder surgery that knocked him out for his entire rookie season. There was some talk that Beal could start in 2019, but a hamstring issue cost him most of training camp and the entire preseason. Since he was placed on IR after the initial cut to 53, Beal will be eligible to be activated after eight weeks.

An undrafted free agent out of UTEP in 2015, Tomlinson latched on with the Jets in 2016 after stints on a couple of practice squads. He worked mainly as a blocker for the Jets, registering 29 starts over the past three seasons. Over the past two years he caught 16 passes for 193 yards and a touchdown. The Giants have Evan Engram firmly entrenched as the starting tight end, so Tomlinson will likely only be used as a blocker and on special teams here as well.
