Ryan Jensen November Return In Play?
The knee injury Ryan Jensen suffered during training camp was initially rumored to be season-ending, but a subsequent report indicated the Buccaneers were holding out hope their center could return in the playoffs. Their IR management reflected that.
But Jensen now appears to have a chance to come back much earlier. The Bucs have a November Jensen return on their radar, Jason Cole of Outkick.com notes. A Jensen return as early as Nov. 6 is in play, according to Cole, but it might take a bit longer for conditioning purposes. The Bucs’ Week 11 bye could conceivably become a key date on Jensen’s timeline, but the team hopes he can return for its Nov. 6 Rams matchup.
A regular-season Jensen return would be important for a Bucs team that is one of a few NFC contenders to have displayed inconsistency to start this season. Although Pro Football Focus still rates Tampa Bay’s offensive line seventh after six weeks, Jensen would certainly be a welcome addition. The 31-year-old center has started for the past four Bucs editions. Coming into this season, the former Ravens draftee had never missed a game since signing with the Bucs in 2018.
The Bucs gave Jensen a three-year, $39MM deal to re-sign this year, doing so shortly after Tom Brady recommitted to the team following his brief retirement. Brady’s midgame address to his line in Pittsburgh drew attention, and this season has been an adjustment for the all-time great. The Bucs have been without Jensen and guard Aaron Stinnie, who is out for the year, and their offseason included Ali Marpet‘s retirement and Alex Cappa‘s free agency signing with the Bengals.
Tampa Bay did trade for Shaq Mason, however, and PFF rates Jensen fill-in Robert Hainsey as its sixth-best center thus far. That pedigree did not show up much in Pittsburgh, partially leading to Brady’s sideline speech. But the continuity Brady enjoyed during his first two Tampa seasons ended this offseason. The Bucs rank 20th in scoring and 21st in total offense. Their rushing attack sits last; Tampa Bay has topped 80 rushing yards in a game just once this season (Week 1).

Buccaneers To Place S Logan Ryan On IR
Logan Ryan will be moving off the Buccaneers’ 53-man roster due to a fractured foot, but the team is not shutting him down for the season just yet.
The Bucs are planning to place Ryan on IR, and surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. Ryan still plans to be back late this season, per NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport notes (via Twitter). Ryan has missed Tampa Bay’s past two games. While he must miss at least four more because of this transaction, it sounds like he will need more than the IR minimum to recover.
A Giants cap casualty in March, Ryan joined the Bucs soon after. He has not been a full-time starter with his fourth NFL team, but the Bucs have used the veteran defensive back regularly. Ryan has played 54% of the Bucs’ defensive snaps in the games in which he has suited up; he suffered the injury against the Chiefs in Week 4. Ryan, 31, is attached to a one-year, $1.12MM deal.
Tampa Bay played without Ryan, safety Mike Edwards and cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting in its Week 6 loss in Pittsburgh. The team used Keanu Neal alongside starter Antoine Winfield Jr. at safety Sunday. Neal, who joined Ryan in signing with the Bucs this offseason, figures to be in line for more work going forward. During his short time with the Bucs, Ryan has upped his career INT count to 19 and his career start number to 117.
Ryan’s timeline mirrors Ryan Jensen‘s. The team carried its starting center through to its 53-man roster past cutdown day, doing so despite Jensen suffering a serious knee injury during training camp. But Jensen has an outside chance to suit up again should the Bucs book their third straight playoff berth. Ryan appears to have a much better chance of returning to action this season, but the ex-Patriots, Titans and Giants defender will still need to wait a while before that window opens.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Released: LB Kenny Young
Young continues to struggle to find a long-term home in the NFL. After Baltimore drafted him and traded him in his second year to the Rams, it took Young over a full season with the team to earn a starting role. When he was finally starting on a consistent basis, Los Angeles traded him once again to Denver where he started six straight games before being inactive for the remainder of the year. Young signed in the offseason with the Raiders but was released ahead of roster cut deadlines. He signed to the Buccaneers practice squad days before the season started and was active for the last four weeks, only playing on special teams. He’ll likely land on another practice squad somewhere in the league, perhaps with one of his former teams as both Baltimore and Los Angeles have experienced some injuries to their linebacker depth.
