Although Ogbuehi is a former first-round pick, he has started five games since the 2018 season. He landed on Houston’s practice squad IR list earlier this month but will be part of the Jets’ scramble to reassemble their tackle depth chart after George Fant‘s IR trip. Ogbuehi’s Bengals audition seasons came back in 2016 and ’17; the Seahawks used him as a fill-in starter in four 2020 games. Ogbuehi, 30, joins Mike Remmers as Jets tackle additions this week.
The Ravens were interested in adding Luketa off the Cardinals’ practice squad, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com tweets. That looks to have prompted the Cards’ decision to move him up to their 53-man roster. The Cards drafted Luketa in this year’s seventh round (256th overall) out of Penn State.
Tennessee’s outside linebacker shuffle included waiving Tuszka, who is now with his third team this year. A former Broncos seventh-round pick, Tuszka spent the offseason with the Steelers. He will move to a Chargers team that has Joey Bosa likely to miss games after suffering what Brandon Staley called a serious groin injury.

Buccaneers WR Cole Beasley Fielded Multiple Offers
Cole Beasley is currently making his Buccaneers debut, one which could help the receiver-needy team in at least the short-term future. While weighing his options prior to signing in Tampa, though, the veteran reportedly received interest from multiple teams. 
According Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Giants, Panthers and Commanders “have tried to sign” the 33-year-old. He adds that New York was the most “persistent” of the trio in their pursuit of Beasley, something which comes as little surprise given recent news concerning the team’s situation at the position.
The Giants have been on the lookout for veteran additions at wideout, with head coach Brian Daboll meeting with potential candidates. He and Beasley were together in Buffalo for three years, a stretch which included the former UDFA’s most productive season (82 catches, 967 yards, four touchdowns in 2020). A reunion in the Big Apple would have allowed Beasley to give the team another experienced option to compliment the likes of Kenny Golladay and Darius Slayton.
Florio notes, however, that the Giants’ offers were around the league minimum. That unsurprisingly turned Beasley elsewhere, leaving them with a complicated situation at the position. Golladay and Slayton have spent significant time on the bench so far this season, with the likes of David Sills and second-round rookie Wan’Dale Robinson in line for greater playing time. Their performances tomorrow night could go a long way in determining the front office’s approach with respect to free agent additions.
The Panthers already had a pair of proven pass-catchers in D.J. Moore and Robbie Anderson before acquiring Laviska Shenault in the build-up to the season. That trio, along with 2021 second-rounder Terrace Marshall Jr., led to heightened expectations for the team, though they averaged less than 200 yards in the air through the first two games of the season. Things remained similar earlier today with quarterback Baker Mayfield throwing for 170 yards, potentially signaling that Carolina’s in-house options could be insufficient.
Washington, meanwhile, entered the season with improvements in their WR room. A healthy Curtis Samuel, along with first-round rookie Jahan Dotson, were touted as effective secondary options to Terry McLaurin. The Commanders entered today ranking second in the league in passing yards, though the offense struggled in a loss to the Eagles.
With Beasley simply being elevated from the Buccaneers’ practice squad, rather than signed to their active roster, he will still be eligible to sign with any other team. If he impresses today, though, the aforementioned clubs may come to regret not making a stronger push to land him.
Latest On Panthers HC Matt Rhule’s Job Status
SEPTEMBER 25: Per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, who cites sources informed of the Panthers’ thinking, team owner David Tepper is planning to remain patient with Rhule, and no coaching change is imminent at this time. The fight and effort that Rhule’s charges have displayed is working in his favor, although Rapoport is clear that improvement will need to happen sooner rather than later in order for Rhule to remain in his post.
Rhule is 10-25 as an NFL head coach, and under his watch, the Panthers are 1-25 in games in which they allow 17 or more points, the worst mark in the league since Rhule was hired in 2020.
SEPTEMBER 24: The 2022 season always seemed like it was going to be a make-or-break year for Panthers head coach Matt Rhule. Following an 0-2 start to the season, some league sources already believe the coach will be ousted sooner than later. Jason La Canfora of the Washington Post opines that Rhule will be coaching college football by the start of the 2023 season.
Further, multiple agents pointed to the Panthers as the first franchise to have a coaching vacancy this season, with some already considering which of their clients would be best for the gig. Meanwhile, “two high-ranking NFL officials” don’t think Rhule will be sticking around for much longer; one estimated that the coach would need an insane winning streak to keep his job, while another guessed that Rhule will be canned before the Panthers’ Week 13 bye.
Of course, this isn’t all that shocking considering Carolina’s lack of success with Rhule at the helm. After going 5-11 during his first season as head coach, the Panthers went 5-12 in 2021. Last year’s iteration of the team was 5-5 in mid-November, but the Panthers closed out the campaign with a seven-game losing streak. Tack on the team’s two losses this season, and it’s been a bit since the Panthers earned a W, and that’s already led to whisper of Rhule’s demise.
Rhule got his first head coaching opportunity at Temple in Philadelphia, where he had spent years as an assistant under Al Golden. He took his first Power 5 opportunity as the head coach at Baylor, following the scandal that led to Art Briles‘s dismissal. He took the Bears from 1-11 in his first season to 11-3 in his third season and rode that success straight to the NFL.
A handful of league sources told La Canfora that Rhule was ready to jump at the LSU gig when it opened up about a year ago. Even if the coach can’t secure a job of “that magnitude,” the reporter notes that Rhule’s name was quickly tossed around as a candidate for the Nebraska job following Scott Frost’s dismissal. La Canfora also expects Rhule to continually be connected to college vacancies over the coming weeks, and if the Panthers continue to struggle, it might not take a whole lot for him to jump ship…and it doesn’t sound like anyone from the Panthers organization would stop him.

Kazee was suspended three games for violating the league’s policy on substances of abuse. After signing with the Steelers this offseason, he landed on injured reserve after the preseason. Per ESPN’s Brooke Pryor (on Twitter), Kazee will be allowed to serve his suspension while he’s on IR.
Hopkins was also suspended three games for violating the NFL’s policy on substances of abuse.
Panthers Place DT Bravvion Roy On IR
Bravvion Roy will miss at least the next four games. The Panthers placed the defensive tackle on injured reserve today, according to Darin Gantt of the team’s website.
Roy suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday’s loss to the Giants. The defensive lineman was seen limping off the field before being carted to the locker room. Matt Rhule later told reporters that the injury “looked pretty severe.”
The 2020 sixth-round pick appeared in 32 games for Carolina through his first two seasons in the NFL. He appeared in both of the Panthers’ first two games in 2022, collecting two tackles and one QB hit.
The Panthers have been starting Derrick Brown and Matt Ioannidis at defensive tackle, with Roy serving as the third DT on the depth chart. With the third-year player sidelined, Carolina will likely turn to 2021 seventh-round pick Phil Hoskins or undrafted rookie Marquan McCall to soak up some of the defensive snaps.

Sam Darnold Making Progress
- The NFL’s longest-tenured general manager, excluding those with owner-GM or coach-GM roles, Loomis has seen fellow Saints cornerstones Payton and Brees depart in the past two offseasons. But the 21st-year Saints front office boss is not planning to join them in leaving anytime soon, via Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com. When the acclaimed salary cap guru does walk away, Jeff Ireland looms as a logical successor. The former Dolphins GM is well-regarded by Loomis and others in the organization, Duncan adds. Ireland, 52, was the Dolphins’ GM from 2008-13. Currently the Saints’ assistant GM, Ireland has been with the team since 2015. The Bears interviewed Ireland for their GM post this offseason, while the Lions and Panthers met with him in 2021. It will be interesting to see if Ireland sticks around to potentially succeed Loomis or land a GM gig elsewhere before the New Orleans GM exits.
- Sam Darnold is making progress toward a return. The Panthers backup has shed his walking boot, per The Athletic’s Joe Person (on Twitter). On IR due to a high ankle sprain, Darnold will miss at least the season’s first four weeks.
