Bears, Texans Close Team Facilities
The Bears and Texans closed their team facilities on Thursday morning in the wake of COVID-19 positives. As of this writing, the Bears are scheduled to face the Titans in Nashville on Sunday. The Texans, meanwhile, are set to play the Jaguars in Jacksonville.

This isn’t the Texans’ first rodeo. Last week, they were forced to shut down after receiving a positive player test and placing offensive lineman Max Scharping on the reserve list. Logistically speaking, that matter was much simpler since the Texans were on a bye week.
The Bears’ COVID-19 positive player is offensive lineman Cody Whitehair, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport (on Twitter). This news comes on the heels after Jason Spriggs‘ positive test, an indication that there could be spread among the O-Line group. The good news is that the Bears do not believe that Whitehair came into close contact with many players. The hope is that they can isolate, contain the issue, and go ahead with Sunday’s game as scheduled.
Bears Release Ted Ginn
The Bears have released wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr., according to a source who spoke with ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter (on Twitter). The move doesn’t come as a huge surprise given Ginn’s limited playing time as of late.

Last season, Ginn caught 30 passes for 421 yards and two touchdowns for the Saints. But, once New Orleans signed Emmanuel Sanders, Ginn was left to find work elsewhere. He inked a one-year deal with the Bears, where he went on to appear in six games this year. However, he did not play in Sunday’s loss to his old friends in New Orleans and he was hardly seen on the field throughout October.
The Bears had Ginn signed for the veteran salary benefit, worth $1.187MM. The release won’t have a major impact on their 2020 cap, but it will free up an extra spot on the active roster.
Ginn leaves Chicago with a stat line of three catches for 40 yards, plus five punt returns for 24 yards. Now in his 14th pro season, it’s not immediately clear whether he’ll hook on elsewhere. For what it’s worth, Ginn said he’s “still got a few more years left” back in April.

Bears’ Javon Wims Suspended Two Games
The league is coming down swiftly on Bears receiver Javon Wims for the punches he threw at Chauncey Gardner-Johnson Sunday. Wims is being suspended for two games, the NFL announced Monday.
You can read the full explanation in the league’s release here. Wims was ejected after bizarrely attacking the Saints cornerback and swinging wildly at him. Wims told team officials that Gardner-Johnson spit on him and ripped his mouthpiece out earlier in the game prior to the incident, sources told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network (Twitter link).
The Georgia product plans to appeal his suspension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network notes (Twitter link). Gardner-Johnson apparently has a knack for getting under people’s skin, as he was on the receiving end of teammate Michael Thomas‘ punch during practice that got Thomas suspended for a game by the Saints.
Wims is a 2018 seventh-round pick from Georgia who played a significant role on offense last year. Appearing in all 16 games with six starts, he turned 39 targets into only 18 receptions for 186 yards and one touchdown. So far this year he has five catches for 35 yards and a score.

Bears WR Allen Robinson Expected To Play On Sunday
Good news for the Bears this morning. ESPN’s Field Yates reports (via Twitter) that top wideout Allen Robinson has cleared concussion protocol and is expected to play tomorrow.
Robinson suffered a concussion during the Bears loss to the Rams on Monday night, and his status was changed from “questionable” to “doubtful” on Friday’s injury report. As Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune noted yesterday (on Twitter), a player “has to be at least limited in” one practice in order to be listed as questionable for a respective week. Since Robinson didn’t practice as he went through concussion protocol, the Bears were required to list him as doubtful.
Robinson being active is obviously a huge boost for a 5-2 Bears team that’s going against a formidable 4-2 Saints squad. The 27-year-old receiver is having another standout season in Chicago, hauling in 44 receptions for 544 yards and two touchdowns.
Unfortunately, the Bears won’t be completely healthy for their showdown against New Orleans. Center Cody Whitehair is sidelined with a calf injury, while pass rusher Khalil Mack and wideout Cordarrelle Patterson are both questionable.
