While much of the focus in Houston is on quarterback Deshaun Watson, the Texans still needed to reduce their roster today. They did just that, making the following transactions:

There’s a number of notable names on this list, including wideout Keke Coutee, who has started 10 of his 23 games over the past three years for the Texans. Perhaps the most important move is the activation of Cannon, who was acquired from the Patriots earlier this offseason. The 33-year-old is expected to provide the Texans offense with a veteran presence, and his return to practice may have bumped another veteran from the roster. The team released lineman Lane Taylor, who sat on PUP for all of the preseason while recovering from a torn ACL. The veteran has only appeared in two games since the 2019 season, and his return to the NFL will now have to take place elsewhere.

Packers To Trade Ka’dar Hollman To Texans

New Texans GM Nick Caserio continues to wheel and deal. Houston has agreed to a trade to acquire cornerback Ka’dar Hollman from the Packers, a source told veteran NFL reporter Aaron Wilson (Twitter link). The Texans will send back a 2022 seventh-round pick via the Bears for Hollman, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets.

Caserio has made several trades recently, and this isn’t even his first one with Green Bay. The two teams recently worked out a deal for receiver Randall Cobb, at the behest of Aaron Rodgers. Caserio just traded corner Keion Crossen to the Giants last week, so Hollman can essentially be seen as a replacement in the secondary.

The Packers drafted Hollman in the sixth-round out of Toledo in 2019. He barely saw the field as a rookie, but took on a real role this past season. He appeared in 14 games for Green Bay, and even started one.

Hollman ended up playing a bit over 10 percent of the defensive snaps, finishing with 10 tackles and three passes defended. He was also a contributor on special teams, and is a bit on the older side for a third-year pro as he’ll turn 27 next month. Caserio is certainly being aggressive if nothing else as he continues to completely remake Houston’s roster.

Draft Notes: Titans, Lions, Texans

Some assorted draft notes from around the NFL…

Sam Houston State pass rusher Derick Roberson had a private workout with Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and general manager Jon Robinson, reports Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. The six-foot-four, 250-pound lineman had a standout season in 2018, finishing with 15 sacks, five forced fumbles, and 20.5 tackles for loss. Lions linebackers coach Al Golden previously met with Roberson during his Pro Day. The pass rusher is expected to be selected on Day 2 of the draft.
Toledo cornerback Ka’dar Hollman also had a private workout with the Texans, reports Wilson. The defensive back has also had visits and workouts with the Dolphins, Saints, Bears, Colts, Eagles, Lions and Browns. While Hollman has boosted his draft stock following a strong Pro Day, he’s still at best a sixth- or seventh-rounder.
TCU wideout KaVontae Turpin‘s Pro Day was attended by the Cowboys, Redskins, Seahawks, and Raiders, reports Wilson (via Twitter). The talented offensive weapon had at least 29 receptions in each of his four collegiate seasons, and he also showed some talent in the return game. Turpin is expected to be a late-round pick or an undrafted free agent.
