Cowboys Announce Roster Cuts

In addition to releasing veteran kicker Dan Bailey, the Cowboys have made several other moves in order to move their roster to 53 players:

Cut:

Green, a former third-round pick, has struggled mightily in his effort to become Dallas’ third offensive tackle. Ward, for his part, was acquired in exchange for wide receiver Ryan Switzer earlier this year.

Cowboys CB Marquez White Faces Felony Charge

Expected to make a push to be one of the cornerbacks on the Cowboys’ 53-man roster, Marquez White has encountered legal trouble going into his second season.

As a result of a road rage incident on Oct. 20, 2017, White was indicted in June and is facing a second-degree felony charge for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports. The 23-year-old White brandished a gun at another driver during an incident on a Dallas-area road.

The Cowboys have not commented on this issue, and while White’s attorney believes this charge will be dropped, it may not bode well for the 2017 sixth-round pick’s chances of making Dallas’ active roster. White appeared in court last week and is due back on Aug. 10, per Davison. He could be set for a suspension under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

White spent last season on the Cowboys’ practice squad. The team moved Byron Jones to cornerback but did not make any outside investments at the position this offseason, so White stands a chance of earning a spot.

Cowboys Sign Seven Draft Picks

The Cowboys have agreed to pacts with seven draft picks, leaving third-round cornerback Jourdan Lewis as the only member of their nine-rookie class without a contract, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.com. Dallas, which reached a deal with first-round defensive end Taco Charlton on Thursday afternoon, signed this group in the evening:

Chidobe Awuzie

Awuzie was reportedly gaining momentum as a potential first-rounder in the weeks leading up to the draft, but he ultimately come off the board late in the second. The four-year starter at Colorado had his most productive seasons from 2015-16, combining for 150 tackles, eight sacks and three interceptions, and should see plenty of playing time as a rookie in Dallas. The Cowboys, who ranked a mediocre-at-best 18th in DVOA against the pass last year, lost cornerbacks Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne to free agency. The club will try to make up for the veterans’ departures with a corner group consisting of Orlando Scandrick, Anthony Brown, Awuzie and Nolan Carroll, among others.
