Minor NFL Transactions: 8/10/23
Today’s minor moves:
Baltimore Ravens
- Waived/injured: WR Makai Polk
Chicago Bears
- Waived from IR: TE Chase Allen
Cleveland Browns
- Released: DT Michael Dwumfour
Denver Broncos
- Waived from IR: G Yasir Durant
Detroit Lions
- Waived: G Logan Stenberg
Indianapolis Colts
- Waived from IR: WR Ethan Fernea
Following the addition of Shelby Harris, the Browns decided to let go of another defensive lineman. Michael Dwumfour got into nine games with the Texans and 49ers last season, compiling eight tackles. He joined the Browns earlier this offseason.
Logan Stenberg was a fourth-round pick by the Lions back in 2020. He saw a larger role in each of his three seasons with the organization, culminating in a 2022 season where he got into 16 games with four starts. The lineman also had a role on special teams in three seasons in Detroit, so there’s a chance he finds another gig elsewhere.
Players waived or released from IR often agree to an injury settlement with their team. Their previous placement on IR would have prevented them from seeing the field during the 2023 campaign; now that they’ve been released, they can sign elsewhere and play this season.

Seattle Seahawks

- Activated from PUP: CB Tariq Woolen
- Waived: DE MJ Anderson
Washington Commanders
- Waived: G Keaton Sutherland
Andrews joins Philadelphia as a potentially strong depth piece on the offensive line. The seven-year veteran has played 48 games over the years with five different teams, so rejoining the Eagles, even with a new staff from when he left, shouldn’t be too big of an issue. Last year, he started five of the six games he played with the Saints.
Woolen underwent arthroscopic knee surgery back in May and was given a four-to-six-week recovery timeline. He was forced to start camp on the physically unable to perform list, but it’s time for him to make his way back to the field. Last year’s other starter at cornerback, Michael Jackson, has had a great camp and rookie Devon Witherspoon is pushing for a starting role, so Woolen will be glad to get back and reestablish his role in the secondary.

Washington Commanders

The Browns waived receiver Daylen Baldwin yesterday, and more details on his situation have emerged today courtesy of NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero (Twitter link). Baldwin tore a tendon behind his knee, and he will undergo surgery as a result. After his recovery (which is expected to take roughly six to eight weeks), Pelissero notes that a return is the Browns’ preference.
Vigil will add considerable experience to the middle of the Jets’ defense. The 29-year-old has started 53 of his 89 career games, though he has not operated as a full-time starter in recent years as he once did. Vigil spent the 2022 season in Arizona, where he was limited to only eight games played and logged a defensive snap share of 35%. Both Vigil and Eguavoen worked out with the Giants last month, but they will instead head to New York’s other franchise for the 2023 season.
Kirklin played four games with the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks, and he scored four touchdowns in the process. He will look to carry over that production at the NFL level as part of a Saints receiving corps which has plenty of uncertainty amongst its depth options.
Whittaker spent the past three seasons in Arizona, coming on and off the Cardinals’ practice squad a number of times. He was a key member of the team’s secondary last year, however, starting four of his six games played and logging a snap share of 74%. The 28-year-old will compete for a depth role behind the established starters at the CB spot in Washington.

Bears Reduce Roster To 53 Players
The Bears trimmed their roster to the NFL’s mandatory 53-man limit today:
Released:
- OT Shon Coleman
- DT Trevon Coley
- DE Mario Edwards Jr. (released)
- S Davontae Harris
- TE James O’Shaughnessy (non-football illness designation)
- QB Nathan Peterman
- G Michael Schofield III
- CB Greg Stroman Jr.
Waived:
- TE Chase Allen
- WR Isaiah Coulter
- C/G Dieter Eiselen
- RB Darrynton Evans
- WR Chris Finke

- DE Sam Kamara
- G Lachavious Simmons
- DE Charles Snowden
- S A.J. Thomas
- DT Micah Dew-Treadway
- RB De’Montre Tuggle
- WR Nsimba Webster
Placed on IR:
- CB Tavon Young
Michael Schofield III is an experienced starter with more than 100 NFL games under his belt, but it was immediately clear that he was competing for a roster spot when he inked a deal worth only $1.12MM. He ultimately lost out on a starting gig in Chicago to Teven Jenkins, who was mentioned as a trade candidate only yesterday.
Sam Kamara got into eight games with Chicago in 2021 while mostly appearing on special teams. Nsimba Webster got into six games with the Bears last year, returning four punts for 13 yards. Both of these young players are candidates to return to Chicago’s practice squad to start the 2022 campaign.
Nathan Peterman is also expected to land back on the Bears’ practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport (on Twitter). After tossing three touchdowns vs. 12 interceptions in two seasons with Buffalo, Peterman spent the past three years with the Raiders, getting into only a pair of games. Justin Fields and Trevor Siemian are the only two QBs on the Bears active roster, so Peterman will see a promotion if either of those two are sidelined.
Dolphins Cut Jordan Mills, Clive Walford
The 53-man roster deadline isn’t until Saturday, but the Dolphins are getting ahead of the game. On Tuesday, the Dolphins released tackle Jordan Mills and tight end Clive Walford with injury settlements. The club also cut defensive tackle Akeem Spence and waived/injured linebacker Chase Allen.
Mills, a free agent acquisition, was disappointing in minicamp and was leapfrogged at right tackle by Jesse Davis. The Dolphins gave him a shot at redemption in training camp, but he was unable to regain his footing.
Walford was most recently with the Jets, but New York decided to non-tender him earlier this month, leading him to the Fins. He had two stints with the Jets and one stint with the Colts in 2018, appearing in only a single game. Walford showed some promise during his first two years in the league, hauling in 61 receptions for 688 yards and six scores across the 2015-16 seasons with the Raiders.
Dolphins Place Chase Allen On IR
The Dolphins placed linebacker Chase Allen on injured reserve, according to a team announcement. To fill his spot, the club re-signed safety Maurice Smith.
Allen played through a foot injury against the Bears and it’s possible that he aggravated the issue while on the field. While he wasn’t a star player in Miami, he was a special teams staple and his hard-nosed play will be missed. It’s not immediately clear whether Allen is a candidate to return later this year or if this is a certain season-ender.
Allen, of course, is just the latest Dolphins player to be hit by the injury bug. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill, cornerback Bobby McCain, and linebacker Cameron Wake face uncertain timetables for return while Allen joins notables William Hayes, Josh Sitton, and Daniel Kilgore on IR.
Despite their bad luck when it comes to health, the Dolphins boast a 4-2 record heading into this week’s contest against the Lions.
Dolphins Sign 14 UDFAs
The Dolphins announced the signings of 14 undrafted free agents Friday. Here’s the list:
- Chase Allen, LB (Southern Illinois)
