Dolphins Reduce Roster To 53 Players
After two-straight Wild Card Round losses, the Dolphins are hoping to take another step forward in 2024. The team started prepping for a crucial campaign today, as they set their 53-man roster by making the following moves:
Released:
- LB Curtis Bolton
- LS Blake Ferguson
- DT Neville Gallimore
- DT Jonathan Harris
- DT Isaiah Mack
- RB Anthony McFarland Jr.
- CB Nik Needham
Waived:
- LB David Anenih

- S Jordan Colbert
- DT Robert Cooper
- WR Erik Ezukanma
- WR Mike Harley Jr.
- OL Chasen Hines
- RB Zander Horvath

Placed on IR:

- LB Wyatt Ray
- CB Cam Smith (designated for return)
Placed on reserve/PUP list:
- WR Odell Beckham Jr. (story)
- LB Bradley Chubb (story)
- LB Cameron Goode
- OL Isaiah Wynn (story)
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the expectation is that long snapper Blake Ferguson will end up re-upping with the Dolphins, with his release solely being for roster machinations. The former sixth-round pick has spent his entire career in Miami, with the special teamer appearing in 67 games.
Nik Needham‘s stay in Miami has come to an end after five seasons. The former UDFA started 27 of his 61 appearances with the organization, although the majority of his production came in his first three seasons with the Dolphins. Between 2019 and 2021, the defensive back hauled in six interceptions, but after returning from a 2022 season-ending injury, he only got into 71 defensive snaps in 2023.
There was some hope that Neville Gallimore could provide the Dolphins with some defensive line depth when he caught on with the organization. The former third-round pick never clicked in Dallas, but he still got into 52 games in his four years with the organization. He collected four sacks and nine QB hits over the span, and he twice managed to top 400 defensive snaps in a campaign.

Minor NFL Transactions: 6/20/24
Thursday’s minor NFL transactions:
Denver Broncos
- Waived: LB Alec Mock
Jacksonville Jaguars
- Waived: WR Kyric McGowan
Today’s minor moves are the side effects of recent signings by both teams. The Broncos needed to make room after signing recent UFL champion linebacker Dondrea Tillman. Mock, one of this year’s class of undrafted free agents, finds himself off the roster as a result. The Air Force-product will still have the option to sign with another squad this summer.
McGowan’s release comes as a result of today’s signing of Denzel Mims. The WR corps in Jacksonville will have quite a different look, besides Christian Kirk and a few other faces, but it’s quickly gotten crowded with the addition of Mims, pushing out McGowan, who signed just six days ago.

Friday’s minor NFL transactions:
Jacksonville Jaguars
- Signed: WR Kyric McGowan
- Placed on IR: OL Chandler Brewer
Los Angeles Chargers
- Signed: WR Praise Olatoke
New Orleans Saints
- Signed: TE Jesper Horsted
- Waived: WR Kyle Sheets
Olatake joins the Chargers offense as a member of the league’s International Player Pathway Program. Born in Nigeria, Olatoke was raised in Scotland before attending Ohio State as a sprinter in track and field. Olatoke clearly possesses next level speed, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors while posting a 10.27-second 100-meter dash time, but doesn’t have much competitive football experience. In fact, the Olatoke’s only experience playing football was on the Ohio State club team. Truly an inspiration for club players everywhere.
Brewer lands on injured reserve but does so without an injury designation. If Brewer plans to play in the backup role he held last year, he’ll now need to reach an injury settlement with the team in order to do so.
Commanders Set 53-Man Roster
The Commanders have been busy reducing their roster, with the organization cutting 12 players yesterday. The team finished off their transactions today, reducing their roster to 53 players:
Released:
- DT Abdullah Anderson
- TE/FB Alex Armah
Waived:
- T Alex Akingbulu
- WR Kazmeir Allen
- DE William Bradley-King
- G Mason Brooks
- S Terrell Burgess
- CB Tariq Castro-Fields
- QB Jake Fromm
- RB Derrick Gore
- LB De’Jon Harris
- T Jaryd Jones-Smith
- C Tyler Larsen
- G Nolan Laufenberg
- DT Benning Potoa’e
- S Kendall Smith
- WR Brycen Tremayne
- CB Jace Whittaker
- CB Nick Whiteside II
- CB Rachad Wildgoose
Placed on IR:
- TE Brandon Dillon
- WR Kyric McGowan
- TE Kaden Smith
- RB Jonathan Williams
Despite tossing a pair of touchdowns in the preseason finale, Jake Fromm earned his walking papers from the Commanders. The quarterback was already facing an uphill battle to make the roster with Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett ahead of him on the depth chart, and he’ll certainly be a popular target if he makes it through waivers. The former fifth-round pick started a pair of games for the Giants in 2021.

Commanders Move Down To 53, Keep RB Brian Robinson On Active Roster
Teams have until 3pm CT to trim their rosters to the regular-season 53-man limit. The Commanders have done so but did it without moving Brian Robinson off the roster.
Shot twice in the lower body Sunday, Robinson underwent surgery. Ron Rivera also expressed optimism the third-round rookie could play this season. Washington is following through on these hopes, keeping the rookie running back on its active roster. Here are the moves the Commanders made to reach the 53-man max Tuesday:
Released:
- CB Corn Elder
- WR Alex Erickson
Waived:
- T Alex Akingbulu
- DT David Bada
- TE Kendall Blanton
- RB Reggie Bonnafon
- DE William Bradley-King
- DT Tyler Clark

- CB DeJuan Neal
- DE Jacub Panasiuk
- S Steven Parker
- RB Jaret Patterson

- LB Tre Walker
Placed on IR:
By keeping Robinson on their active roster, the Commanders opened the door to him not only playing in 2022. The team needed to carry the Alabama product through to its 53-man roster today in order to place him on short-term IR. An IR placement today would have ended Robinson’s season.
One of the gunshot wounds Robinson sustained hit his knee, but the bullet did not seriously damage ligaments, tendons or bone, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com reports (video link). It is not a lock Robinson returns this season, per Garafolo, but the team is keeping its options open.
Robinson playing as a rookie would be obviously be a remarkable development. Prior to being shot, the Day 2 draftee had made a serious charge at the Commanders’ starting running back role. The team’s primary starter over the past two seasons, Antonio Gibson, remains on the roster, as do J.D. McKissic and Jonathan Williams. Robinson being moved to IR later this week will sideline him for at least four games — likely much longer, in this case — but allow him to return later this season, should he be cleared to do so.
The Chiefs, per ESPN.com’s Field Yates (on Twitter), also submitted a claim for Blanton recently, when the Rams waived him. It will be interesting to see if the young tight end generates any interest this week. Martin has generated consistent interest on the wire. The Commanders, who drafted the guard during the Bruce Allen regime, have made two waiver attempts to land him. The second one, earlier this month after the Jaguars cut Martin, was successful. It would not surprise if Martin is brought back via the practice squad — as several of Tuesday’s cuts will be — but he could also bring more interest on the wire.
