The Vikings cut Gaskin from their active roster on Tuesday, but as a vested veteran, he did not need to pass through waivers before re-signing to Minnesota’s practice squad. Gaskin played in the Vikings’ first five games this season, but has not appeared since October 6. His familiarity with the offense could lead to activations from the practice squad if Minnesota needs running back depth.

Herndon will join the Saints after playing in Jacksonville for six seasons, with 83 total appearances and 34 starts for the Jaguars since 2018. The veteran cornerback only started five games over the last two years, but played in 15 games for almost 900 snaps as a rotational member of the Jaguars’ secondary. His experience could lead to quick elevations from the practice squad once he learns the Saints’ defense.

The Commander signed the 30-year-old Hart to give them more depth at offensive tackle. The veteran has 67 starts and 98 total appearances over his eight-year career, though he hasn’t played in the NFL since a 2022 stint with the Bills.

Amos is far-removed from his days as a full-time starter in the NFC North. With Talanoa Hufanga on injured reserve, though, and only three safeties on the active roster, Amos could have an opportunity to make an impact in the Bay Area.

So far this year, Zakelj, the second-year interior offensive lineman, has only appeared in four games on special teams, but the team intended for him to compete with free agent signing Jon Feliciano for the backup center job behind starter Jake Brendel. With Aaron Banks out last week, and with the coaches wanting to get Feliciano more involved at right guard anyway, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports, Zakelj became a key backup at center. Unfortunately for Zakelj and the 49ers, a torn bicep will require surgery, taking Zakelj out for the remainder of the season.

Minnesota Vikings

  • Signed: DE Michael Dogbe, CB JoeJuan Williams
  • Released: CB C.J. Coldon

New York Jets

Philadelphia Eagles

Seattle Seahawks

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • Signed: DL Pat O’Connor

With Matthew Stafford questionable for Week 9, the Rams are adding some additional QB depth. Winn had a standout career at UT Martin before going undrafted in this year’s draft. The QB spent training camp with the Rams before eventually joining the Edmonton Elks in the CFL. As Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic notes, the signing is especially notable considering Winn also punted in college; Rams punter Ethan Evans is currently dealing with a sprained ankle.

Lions Release LS Jake McQuaide, Sign OL Bobby Hart

Jake McQuaide‘s effort to land the Lions’ long snapping job looks to have ended. The team released the 12-year veteran Monday, leaving Scott Daly on track to keep his position.

The Lions also signed veteran tackle Bobby Hart and removed wide receiver Tom Kennedy from their IR list with an injury settlement. These transactions did not register on the same level as Detroit’s Teddy Bridgewater addition, but they will affect the team’s depth chart.

A former snapper with the Rams and Cowboys, McQuaide signed with the Lions in March. The Dan CampbellBrad Holmes era had featured Daly — a 2018 UDFA who did not debut until 2021 — as the snapper for all 34 games, but the team brought in the 35-year-old free agent as competition. McQuaide has snapped in 181 career games. While long snappers generally bring durability due to the nature of their position, McQuaide is coming off a season in which a triceps tear sidelined him after four games.

Hart, who will turn 29 this month, operated as a Bills backup throughout the 2022 season. After bouncing around in 2021, Hart stayed on Buffalo’s active roster last year and played 125 offensive snaps. A suspension knocked Hart out of a September game, but he returned to work as a backup the rest of the way.

A former Giants seventh-round pick, Hart has done well to extend his career toward the 10-year mark. This will be Year 9 for the Florida State alum, who has started 67 games over the course of his career. The Giants made Hart a rookie-year starter, but after Dave Gettleman took over as GM in December 2017, the team cut bait immediately. The Bengals gave Hart a chance soon after and then re-signed him to a three-year, $16.2MM deal in March 2019. Hart played two seasons on that contract, working as Cincinnati’s primary right tackle in that span. The Bengals cut him in 2021.

The Lions have no questions about starting tackle roles, with Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell locked into their respective spots. Hart offers depth alongside fellow free agency addition Germain Ifedi, who has played both tackle and guard as a pro. The Lions also brought back Graham Glasgow, who has started 91 career games, this offseason. Detroit has done well to stockpile experienced depth behind its upper-echelon front five.

A number of players who were placed on IR after the preseason and prior to the regular season returned to practice today. These players will have a three-week practice window until they have to be activated to the active roster. Otherwise, they’ll be ineligible to return this season.

One of the most surprising returns is Cardinals cornerback Antonio Hamilton. The former undrafted free agent rode a strong preseason to a potential starting gig, but he was sidelined with second-degree burns after spilling hot oil on his legs and feet. Kliff Kingsbury previously said an early-October return may be a “little aggressive” (per ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss on Twitter), but the cornerback ended up working his way back to practice.

Jake McQuaide Expected To Miss Rest Of Season; Cowboys Add Two Long Snappers

Jake McQuaide‘s second Cowboys season will end early. The veteran long snapper suffered a triceps tear that is expected to sideline him for the rest of the year, according to the Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins (on Twitter)

The Cowboys are adding some reinforcements and look set to hold a long-snapping competition this week. Dallas is signing snappers Matt Overton and Tucker Addington to its practice squad Tuesday, Pelissero adds. McQuaide will undergo surgery, Watkins tweets.

An NFLer since 2011, McQuaide spent 10 seasons with the Rams. He has never missed a game, playing in 181 since coming to St. Louis as a UDFA. The Cowboys made McQuaide their L.P. Ladouceur successor last year, signing him to the going long snapper rate. McQuaide is on his second one-year Cowboys deal, having re-signed in March. Ladouceur had been the Cowboys’ long snapper for 16 seasons prior to that change.

Overton has snapped with four teams since coming into the league in 2012. The former Colts Pro Bowler spent time with the Jaguars, Titans and Chargers since his five-year Indianapolis run wrapped. Overton, 37, was with the Bolts throughout last season. Overton will have a considerable experience edge on Addington, who has yet to snap in an NFL game. Addington snapped at Division I-FCS Sam Houston State.
