Chiefs Place WR Tyreek Hill On COVID-19 List
The Chiefs are placing wide receiver Tyreek Hill, cornerback Rashad Fenton, and tight Blake Bell on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, according to Adam Teicher and Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). The team is expecting to add more players to the list and, as one source tells the duo, “It’s a mess.”

The Chiefs have, for all intents and purposes, punched their ticket to the playoffs as well as the AFC West crown. Still, they’re pushing to lock up a first-round bye over the next few weeks. They currently lead the AFC with a 10-4 record but the Patriots (9-5) aren’t far behind.
Fortunately, the Chiefs have a ways to go between now and Sunday afternoon’s tilt against the Steelers. Any players who are vaccinated, asymptomatic, and able to pass another test will be able to play. They’ll be keeping their fingers crossed for Travis Kelce, Hill, and any other positives that emerge this week.
Hill, 27, is in the midst of another outstanding season with 102 catches for 1,178 yards and nine touchdowns through 14 games. Just last week, he torched the Chargers for a 12/148/1 line, so the Steelers could stand to benefit from his absence. They, too, are still playing for something at 7-6-1 — Five Thirty Eight gives them an 18% chance of making the playoffs with a 10% chance of taking the sardine-packed AFC North.
Updated 2022 NFL Draft Order
Have you been waiting all day for Tuesday night? Thanks to COVID rescheduling, we still have two games to go in Week 15. While the Eagles, Rams, and the Washington Football Team are all jockeying for postseason berths/positioning, the Seahawks are — for all intents and purposes — out of playoff contention.
If the season ended today, the Seahawks would own a top ten pick…that is, if they owned it. The Jets, who hold the Seahawks’ 2022 first-round pick by way of the Jamal Adams trade, will be cheering for the Rams tonight.
For non-playoff teams, the draft order will be determined by the inverted 2021 standings, plus a series of tiebreakers, starting with strength of schedule. For playoff teams, the order is determined by their postseason outcome and regular season record.

Chiefs Place TE Travis Kelce On Reserve/COVID-19 List
The Chiefs could be without a major offensive weapon this weekend against the Steelers. Kansas City has placed star tight end Travis Kelce on the reserve/COVID-19 list, according to veteran reporter Herbie Teope (on Twitter). Kelce will be joined by kicker Harrison Butker and cornerback Charvarius Ward, who also landed on the list.
While Kelce’s placement on the list puts his status in doubt, it doesn’t definitively mean he’ll be sidelined on Sunday. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter (on Twitter), Kelce is vaccinated, so he could be good to know this weekend considering the league’s new COVID protocols.
Butker, however, is unvaccinated and will miss Kansas City’s Week 16 game, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. The Chiefs prepared for a potential Butker absence when they added Elliott Fry to the practice squad last week. Fry, who has bounced around in recent years without seeing much game action (one career appearance, in 2020), will kick against the Steelers.
Kelce is having another incredible season for Kansas City, hauling in 83 receptions for 1,066 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Despite missing almost all of his rookie season due to a knee injury, Kelce has been remarkably durable throughout his career. He has missed only a pair of regular-season games since 2014. If the veteran is sidelined against Pittsburgh, the team will likely turn to Blake Bell and Noah Gray at tight end.
The Chiefs might not be as prepared for Ward’s potential absence; the 25-year-old has started nine of his 10 games this season.

Chiefs Add K Elliott Fry To Practice Squad
Elliott Fry has found a new home. The kicker has signed with the Chiefs practice squad, reports NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero (via Twitter).
South Carolina’s kicker from 2013-16, Fry converted 66 of 88 field goal attempts during his collegiate career. After going undrafted in the 2017 draft, Fry had a brief stint in the Alliance of American Football. Since then, he’s logged many NFL workouts and spent time on a handful of practice squads, including stints with Bears, Ravens, Panthers, and Buccaneers.
Fry spent much of the 2020 campaign on the Falcons practice squad. He managed to get into his lone NFL game with Atlanta, converting his lone field goal attempt and one of his two extra point tries. He was expected to vie for the Falcons’ job this year, though he was a longshot to beat out Younghoe Koo. Fry spent the first part of the 2021 campaign bouncing on and off the Falcons’ practice squad, and he’s been a free agent since mid-November.
The Chiefs don’t necessarily need a kicker at the moment, although Harrison Butker is currently converting a career-low 87 percent of his field goal attempts. However, as Pelissero notes, COVID cases continued to spike around the NFL, so the Chiefs are adding some insurance in case Butker is suddenly sidelined.
Chiefs Place Chris Jones On COVID-19 List
The Chiefs have placed defensive lineman Chris Jones on the COVID-19 list, per an announcement from head coach Andy Reid. With their next game just two days away, this effectively rules Jones out for Thursday night’s matchup against the Chargers.

Through eleven games this year, Jones has seven sacks, 14 quarterback hits, and five pass breakups to his credit. His consistent pressure will be sorely missed this week, though the Chargers will also be shorthanded on the opposite side. Top left tackle Rashawn Slater has also been placed on the COVID-19 list with little chance of getting cleared before Thursday night.
The Chiefs furnished Jones with a four-year, $80MM extension before the 2020 season. He responded with his second consecutive Pro Bowl nod and 7.5 sacks, a strong return to kick off the new deal. Midway through his sixth season, Jones has amassed 47.5 sacks for the Chiefs despite spending much of that time on the interior.
A win on Sunday would put the Chiefs inches away from locking up the division. A loss, on the other hand, would leave the AFC West wide open for the Chargers.
