Titans Release TE Luke Stocker
The Titans made a handful of roster moves today as they continue to shape their Week 1 roster. The team released tight end Luke Stocker, and they placed running back Darrynton Evans, wide receiver Marcus Johnson, and offensive lineman Daniel Munyer on IR.
Stocker, who has put together a 10-year career thanks to his blocking ability, rejoined the Titans this offseason after Jonnu Smith joined the Patriots. The move was a bit of a homecoming for Stocker; the tight end went to college at Tennessee and played for the Titans for two seasons. With the veteran out of the picture, Tommy Hudson will likely serve as the team’s third tight end behind the Geoff Swaim/Anthony Firkser platoon.
Evans was a third-round pick by the Titans in 2020. He saw time in five games as a rookie, collecting 81 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown on 16 carries. Khari Blasingame, Jeremy McNichols, and Mekhi Sargent will now compete for reps behind Derrick Henry.

Colts Sign WR Marcus Johnson To Active Roster, Activate DT Sheldon Day
The Colts are doing a bit of roster reshuffling this morning. Joel A. Erickson of the Indy Star reports (via Twitter) that the team is signing wideout Marcus Johnson to the active roster.
Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle adds that the team has also activated defensive tackle Sheldon Day from injured reserve, waived defensive tackle Eli Ankou, released safety Ibraheim Campbell, and promoted guard Jake Eldrenkamp and wide receiver DeMichael Harris from the practice squad.
Johnson, 26, joined the Colts back in 2018, but he started making a name for himself during the 2019 campaign. That year, the wideout finished with 17 receptions for 277 yards and two scores. He was waived by Indy back in September, but he later caught on with the practice squad. He had already been promoted to the active roster twice this season, and he’s hauled in four receptions for 80 yards in those two contests.
After spending the previous three seasons with the 49ers, Day joined the Colts this past offseason. He suffered a knee injury early in training camp that required his placement on the IR, and he was designated for return in late September. The 26-year-old appeared in 16 games for the 49ers last season, compiling 15 tackles and one sack. He also started each of San Francisco’s three playoff games.
Ankou was claimed off waivers from the Browns in early September, but he didn’t end up seeing any playing time for the Colts. Campbell was released by the Titans in September, and he subsequently joined Indy’s practice squad. He saw time in three games for the Colts, only contributing on special teams.

Colts Place DE Kemoko Turay On PUP List, Cut Roster To 53
Here are the players the Colts cut to slash their roster down to 53 players Saturday:
Waived:
- CB Andre Chachere
- TE Dominique Dafney
- G Jake Eldrenkamp
- WR Daurice Fountain
- TE Farrod Green
- DE Gerri Green
- WR DeMichael Harris
- T Brandon Hitner
- C Joey Hunt
- WR Marcus Johnson

- DT Kameron Kline
- K Chase McLaughlin (story)
- T Carter O’Donnell
- C Javon Patterson
- CB Lafayette Pitts
- CB Jackson Porter
- S Donald Rutledge
- CB Tremon Smith
- TE Andrew Vollert
- DT Chris Williams
- DT Robert Windsor
- CB Travis Reed
Released:
Placed on reserve/PUP list:
- DE Kemoko Turay
Turay’s PUP placement will shelve him for at least the season’s first six games. It is a concerning sign for the former second-round pick, who suffered a broken ankle last October. The Colts were counting on him to play a key edge-rushing role, potentially as the counterpart to starter Justin Houston. The team has not been connected to Jadeveon Clowney since March and also avoided investments in other available pass rushers this offseason.
Kelly spent time on Indianapolis’ practice squad last year and could well end up there again. The Colts recently signed Hunt, a former Seahawks backup/spot starter, and added Grimble this offseason. Both Grimble and his ex-Steelers teammate, Roosevelt Nix, failed to make the Colts’ roster. However, despite the players’ extensive experience, each could be placed on Indianapolis’ 16-man practice squad this year. Teams are permitted to carry six practice squad players with unlimited experience.
Colts To Re-Sign WR Marcus Johnson
The Colts have agreed to re-sign wide receiver Marcus Johnson, according to his agents at EnterSport Management (Twitter link).
Johnson, 25, reached restricted free agency last month, but Indianapolis opted not to tender him an offer. Thus, the former undrafted free agent almost surely re-signed at a cost cheaper than the lowest RFA tender of $2.133MM.
Johnson was injured for the first half of last season, but took on a prominent role down the stretch, starting six games and posting a 105-yard performance against Tampa Bay. Overall, he finished with 277 yards and two touchdowns in only eight games.
Colts Won’t Tender Marcus Johnson
An interesting young receiver is about to hit the open market. The Colts won’t tender restricted free agent wideout Marcus Johnson, so he’ll be entering unrestricted free agency later this month, according to Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star (Twitter link). In a separate tweet, Erickson noted he was surprised by the move.
Erickson writes that the Texas product is “expected to get a lot of interest” from other teams now that he’ll be free to sign wherever. Johnson originally signed with the Eagles as an UDFA in 2016 and spent the first two years of his career in Philly, winning Super Bowl LII with the team. He was then traded to the Seahawks as part of the Michael Bennett deal, before Seattle traded him to Indy prior to the 2018 season.
Johnson was injured for the first half of last season, but he took on a prominent role down the stretch. He ended up starting six games and even had a 105-yard game against Tampa Bay, which is why it’s a bit surprising that the Colts are letting him walk. Overall he finished with 277 yards and two touchdowns in only eight games. Still only 25, it’ll be interesting to see where he latches on next.
