Riley Patterson‘s second stint in Jacksonville has come to an end. After getting a seven-game look with the Lions in 2021, Patterson won the Jaguars full-time kicking gig in 2022. He proceeded to convert 30 of his 35 field goal attempts that season, plus another three-for-three showing in the postseason (including a 41-yard game-winner against the Chargers).
He was replaced in Jacksonville by Brandon McManus last offseason, leading to him spending the majority of the 2023 campaign back in Detroit. In addition to his two-game stint with the Browns to end last season, Patterson ended 2023 having connected on 16 of his 18 FG tries and 41 of his 44 XP tries. The Jaguars brought him back in February via a reserve/future contract, but the team is already committing to rookie sixth-round pick Cam Little as their full-time kicker.

There was good news on the Horton front back in May as it was announced that the Texans defender had completed his final treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma. As a rookie out of TCU, Horton sat out the final seven games of the 2023 season on the non-football illness list. As he continues to work his way back to the field, it appears he’ll start the summer on the list, as well.
Thompson’s situation in Kansas City also received some good news of late. After suffering a seizure that caused him to go into cardiac arrest in early-June, the Chiefs defender continues to make progress towards a return. He’ll start the summer on the non-football injury list but will continue to work his way back as he continues with medical procedures, per Nate Taylor of The Athletic.
Texans To Sign RB Mike Boone, FB/TE Andrew Beck
The Texans remain busy, this time adding two players on the offensive side of the ball. Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports (via Twitter) that the Texans will sign running back Mike Boone. Meanwhile, NFL Network’s Peter Schrager reports (via Twitter) that the Texans will also add fullback/tight end Andrew Beck.

Boone is inking a two-year deal worth $3.1MM, including a $300K signing bonus. The veteran should provide the Texans with another option (alongside Dare Ogunbowale) behind starter Dameon Pierce.
The former UDFA spent the first three seasons of his career with the Vikings, collecting 407 yards from scrimmage in 40 games. He spent the past two seasons with the Broncos, adding another 255 yards in 17 games. With only 18 career receptions, Boone doesn’t necessarily profile as a third-down back, so there’s a chance he serves as a traditional backup to Pierce.
Beck is signing a two-year, $6.75MM deal with $4MM guaranteed, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport (via Twitter). The fullback/tight end spent the past four seasons with the Broncos, appearing in 51 games. He mostly served as a special teamer and a blocker, although he did contribute i14 receptions in four years.
Broncos, Andrew Beck Agree To Extension
The Broncos have agreed to a new one-year deal with fullback/tight end Andrew Beck (Twitter link via Adam Schefter of ESPN.com). Beck was set to be a restricted free agent, so it sounds like this new pact will replace his would-be tender.
[RELATED: Latest On Broncos’ Offseason Plans]
The Broncos plan to use Beck in more of a hybrid role going forward, giving him an opportunity to clear rushing lanes and, perhaps, get a few more touches. Beck first broke into the league with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent out of UT, moving from tight end to fullback. After that, he was claimed by the Broncos where he saw a full 16-game slate in 2019. That year, Beck reeled in nine grabs for 90 yards and one touchdown. Beck has yet to record a carry or reception since then, but he’s suited up for 38 games in total as a reserve and special teams player.
Beck, 26 in May, could be joined by some marquee pass rushers and offensive linemen in the coming weeks. The Broncos currently have around $23MM in cap room and old pal Von Miller has hinted that he’d be interested in returning to Denver.

Broncos Claim QB Brandon Allen
The Broncos have claimed quarterback Brandon Allen off waivers, according to ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter (Twitter link). Allen was dropped by the Rams on Saturday, making him available to the league’s 31 other teams.
Allen is now set to serve as Joe Flacco‘s primary backup. Drew Lock was supposed to be the top clipboard holder, but a hand injury will keep him sidelined for a while. Kevin Hogan, an internal candidate to fill that void, was dropped over the weekend.
In addition to Allen, the Broncos have also been awarded the following players off waivers:
- TE Andrew Beck (Patriots)
- C Corey Levin (Titans)
- WR Diontae Spencer (Steelers)
Patriots Sign 10 UDFAs
The Patriots have added 10 undrafted free agents. Here is the team’s full list:
- Calvin Anderson, OT (Texas)
- Andrew Beck, TE (Texas)
- Nick Brossette, RB (Louisiana State)
- Ryan Davis, WR (Auburn)
- Malik Gant, S (Marshall)
- Tyler Gauthier, OL (Texas)
- Terez Hall, LB (Missouri)
- Jakobi Meyers, WR (NC State)
- D’Angelo Ross, CB (New Mexico)
- Tyree St. Louis, OT (Miami)
The Patriots also announced the signing of defensive lineman Nick Thurman, who was a 2018 undrafted free agent out of Houston.
The Patriots surprised some when they didn’t draft a rookie tight end to replace Rob Gronkowski. However, the team seemingly has high hopes for Beck; Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports (via Twitter) that the Patriots gave the Texas product $115K in guaranteed money (the highest among the team’s undrafted free agents). The former linebacker had a breakout offensive season in 2018, hauling in 28 receptions for 281 yards and two touchdowns.
The team also gave $85K guaranteed to both Gant and Hall. Gant, a former walk-on at Marshall, finished his collegiate career with a pair of standout seasons, including a 2018 campaign where he tallied 95 tackles and two interceptions. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Hall was equally productive at Missouri, where he finished 2018 with 71 tackles and five sacks.
Considering New England’s lack of receiver depth, the team’s signing of Meyers is noteworthy. The former quarterback transitioned to wideout back in 2016, all leading to a 2018 season where he hauled in 92 receptions for 1,047 yards and four scores.
