Shaq Evans

Minor NFL Transactions: 1/4/17

Wednesday’s minor NFL transactions:

  • The Packers are promoting cornerback Herb Waters from their practice squad, head coach Mike McCarthy announced Wednesday (via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com). He’ll replace fellow corner Makinton Dorleant, who is going on injured reserve with a knee ailment. Along with Dorleant, a couple other Packers corners – Damarious Randall and Quinten Rollins – are banged up as their Sunday wild-card showdown with the Giants approaches. As a result, Waters, an undrafted rookie from Miami who began as a wide receiver, will suit up for the first time.
  • The Cowboys signed receiver Shaq Evans to their practice squad. Evans had been available since the Patriots cut him from their practice squad Oct. 20. The former UCLA Bruin has also spent time with the Jets, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2014 draft, and Jaguars. He hasn’t yet recorded a statistic in the NFL.

NFL Workout Updates: 10/3/16

We’re a quarter of the way through the regular season, and clubs are constantly updating their emergency lists of players. Let’s take a look at the latest reported auditions and visits:

  • The Giants worked out safeties Rahim Moore and and Dion Bailey, according to Adam Caplan of ESPN.com (Twitter link). New York is looking for defensive back help given the large amount of injuries to its secondary, and the club has also auditioned Will Allen, Donte Whitner, Jeron Johnson, and Shamiel Gary. However, the Giants don’t expect to sign anyone until tomorrow at the earliest.
  • The Redskins auditioned safety Cedric Thompson, Caplan tweets. Like the division rival Giants, Washington is also on the hunt for secondary options after corner-turned-safety DeAngelo Hall was lost for the season. The Redskins worked out fellow safeties Josh Evans and Jerome Couplin last week.
  • The Patriots took a look at wide receivers B.J. Daniels and Shaq Evans, per Adam Caplan of ESPN.com (Twitter link). Daniels, a former college quarterback, has spent time on five other clubs’ rosters over the past three-plus seasons.
  • Offensive lineman Mike Liedtke will meet with the Ravens on Tuesday, as agent Brett Tessler tweets.

Sunday NFL Transactions: AFC South

Listed below are the Sunday roster moves for the four AFC South teams. Following the 53-man roster cutdown deadline yesterday, many teams will make slight tweaks to their rosters, claiming players off waivers or signing guys who clear waivers. Those transactions for the Texans, Colts, Jaguars, and Titans are noted below.

Additionally, as of 12:00pm CT today, teams can begin constructing their 10-man practice squads. You can check out our glossary entry on practice squads to brush up on those changes, as well as all the other guidelines that govern the 10-man units, whose players practice with the team but aren’t eligible to suit up on Sundays.

Minor NFL Transactions: 9/1/16

Here are today’s minor moves.

  • Just a few days after cutting him, the Jaguars have signed wide receiver Shaq Evans, as Adam Caplan of ESPN.com tweets.
  • The Lions signed wide receiver Quinshad Davis and waived linebacker Chi Chi Ariguzo, according to a team announcement. Davis was cut by the Lions earlier this week as a part of their effort to get down to a 75-man roster. The North Carolina product hauled in 55 catches for 638 yards and four touchdowns in his senior season last year.

Jaguars Waive Eight Players

The Jaguars took a big step towards getting to tomorrow’s 75-man roster max. The team announced that the following players have been waived:

In addition to those cuts, offensive lineman Jeff Linkenbach has been placed on IR, safety Earl Wolff has been waived/injured, and offensive lineman Luke Bowanko (hip) and defensive end Jonathan Woodard (Achilles) have been moved to the PUP list.

McCray is a former starting cornerback and was a member of GM David Caldwell’s first draft class. Evans is a former fourth-round pick of the Jets, one of many underwhelming draft choices by former GM John Idzik.

The Jaguars are now down to 78 players.
