Torn Achilles For Seahawks’ Will Dissly

Will Dissly‘s season is over. The Seahawks tight end has been diagnosed with a torn Achilles, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter).

This, unfortunately, was the expected news after Dissly was forced out of Sunday’s game. Before that, Dissly had 23 catches for 262 yards and four touchdowns in six games. The 2018 fourth-round draft pick flashed in the first few games last season, and was starting to break out again this year, so it’s frustrating on a number of levels for him and the Seahawks.

With veteran tight end Ed Dickson on IR, the Seahawks will be moving ahead with Luke Willson as their starter. They also traded for former Patriot Jacob Hollister earlier this year and recently promoted him from the practice squad yesterday, so he figures to be in the mix as well.

Seahawks Fear Will Dissly Tore Achilles

Unfortunate news for the Seahawks, as it looks like promising young tight end Will Dissly will miss the rest of the season. The team fears Dissly has suffered a torn Achilles, a source told Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com (Twitter link).

The Washington product had been a major part of Seattle’s offense, so this one will have a big impact moving forward. It’s an especially tough blow for Dissly, as the second-year pro missed most of his rookie season after suffering a torn patella in Week 4 last year. Dissly flashed in the first few games of 2018, and was again starting to break out this year. Seattle was so pleased with his development that they traded away fellow tight end Nick Vannett to the Steelers, meaning they’re now quite thin at the position.

Through the first five games of this season, Dissly had 23 catches for 262 yards and four touchdowns. Dissly looked like he was on his way to becoming one of the league’s best tight ends, but is now dealing with his second major injury in as many years. The 120th overall pick of last year’s draft has a long recovery ahead of him, and isn’t guaranteed to be ready for Week 1 of next year.

Veteran tight end Ed Dickson is currently on IR, and for now the Seahawks will be rolling with Luke Wilson as their starter. They traded for former Patriot Jacob Hollister earlier this offseason and just promoted him from the practice squad yesterday, so he could mix in as well.

Seahawks Thin On Offensive Line

  • The Seahawks will likely be without two offensive line starters Sunday. Left tackle Duane Brown and right guard D.J. Fluker are doubtful to face the Browns. Seattle placed backup Ethan Pocic on IR on Friday, leaving the unit thin on its Cleveland trip. George Fant is expected to start at left tackle, and the Seahawks have interior linemen Joey Hunt and Jordan Roos on their roster as possible Fluker replacements. Hunt has three career starts, Roos zero.

Seahawks Place Ethan Pocic On IR

The Seahawks have placed offensive lineman Ethan Pocic on injured reserve, according to a team announcement. In related moves, the club also waived safety Adrian Colbert and promoted tight end Jacob Hollister and guard Jordan Roos from the practice squad.

Pocic started in the team’s season opener against the Bengals and played on every possible snap. He also saw time in the Week 2 contest against the Steelers, but he’s been out for the last three games with a back injury. Now, he’ll miss at least eight more weeks of action, and possibly the rest of the season.

Roos, 26, appeared in seven games after joining the club as a UDFA. He’ll provide some much needed offensive line depth as right guard D.J. Fluker and left tackle Duane Brown deal with injuries. In the meantime, George Fant is expected to start at left tackle when the Seahawks face the Browns on Sunday.

The Seahawks are 4-1 through five weeks. After the Cleveland game, they’ll round out the month with games against the Ravens and Falcons.

Jadeveon Clowney On Seahawks Trade

Jadeveon Clowney revealed some information about his preseason team change Wednesday. For starters, the former No. 1 overall pick said he expected to be a Texan for a sixth season before Bill O’Brien informed him otherwise around two weeks before the regular season started.

I thought I was going to be in Houston and then the last call to get ready to go in for training camp like two weeks before. Bill O’Brien was like, ‘We are trading you.’ I was just like, ‘Oh, OK,'” Clowney said during an appearance on Ian Rapoport’s RapSheet and Friends podcast (audio link). “Well, I will hold off on signing (my franchise tender) now cause I don’t know where I’m getting traded to. Because he was like, ‘We don’t know where we’re going to send you yet, but we are going to trade you.'”

The Texans ended up sending Clowney to the Seahawks for a 2020 third-round pick and linebackers Barkevious Mingo and Jacob Martin — neither of whom start in Houston. Clowney had refused to sign his franchise tender, in a move that initially allowed him to avoid Texans training camp without fines but became about dodging a trade to the Dolphins.

The 26-year-old edge defender confirmed he did not want to be a part of Miami’s rebuild but would have welcomed a deal to Philadelphia, which is consistent with the reports that emerged in late August. Seattle had discussed a Clowney deal with Houston before the draft, but the Texans’ price tag was higher than it eventually became at the preseason’s conclusion.

Miami, yeah, I didn’t want to go. Send me to a team that has a chance to win,” Clowney said, via Rapoport. “And when I hear about Seattle, Philly, also, of course, I want to go. I’ve got guys on both teams I’ve played with before. I would have loved to play for either one of the teams. So anyone of them would have worked for me.”

The Eagles had already given Malik Jackson a $10MM-AAV deal and re-signed Brandon Graham for $13MM-plus per year this offseason, those contracts joining Fletcher Cox‘s $17.1MM-per-year pact on a high-priced defensive line. The Seahawks had traded away franchise-tagged defender Frank Clark and did not have big expenses on their D-line. Clowney remains attached to his $15.967MM tag number, but the Seahawks are only on the hook for $8MM of it.

Through five Seahawks games, Clowney has a sack, three QB hits, a pick-6 and a forced fumble. Whitney Mercilus has fared well in Clowney’s absence, registering five sacks and four forced fumbles with the Texans.
