Seahawks Place WR D’Wayne Eskridge On IR

D’Wayne Eskridge has not played since Week 1, and the Seahawks’ top 2021 draft choice will be out for the next three games. The team moved its second-round wide receiver to IR Thursday.

This is a concerning situation for Eskridge, who suffered a concussion in his debut. The 5-foot-9 wideout played 12 snaps against the Colts but left that game with a head injury. While the Seahawks are giving him extra time to recover, Eskridge’s extensive time in the protocol has become a situation to monitor.

Despite the presences of Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf, Seattle added Eskridge with the No. 56 overall pick. The Western Michigan alum saw action in five seasons at the mid-major program, redshirting one of those slates, and was one of college football’s top deep threats as an upperclassman. He averaged 23.3 yards per catch (33 receptions, 768 yards) and caught eight TD passes during the COVID-19-altered 2020 season, which reduced the MAC slate to six games.

The Seahawks have used Freddie Swain in an increased role in recent weeks; the 2020 sixth-round pick has two touchdown receptions thus far this season. Penny Hart resides as the fifth wideout on the Seahawks’ 53-man roster, but the team elevated former first-round pick Phillip Dorsett ahead of Thursday night’s game. Dorsett recently re-signed with the Seahawks, joining their practice squad, following his Jaguars exit.

Jaguars Drop Phillip Dorsett

The Jaguars have released wide receiver Phillip Dorsett from their practice squad (Twitter link via Field Yates of ESPN.com). The 28-year-old could potentially return after some roster jockeying, but it’s not clear if that’s in the cards.

Dorsett joined the Jags in the spring but he did not make it through final cuts. Despite his on-and-off relationship with Urban Meyer & Co., Dorsett still offers an impressive resume including two trips to the Super Bowl and a ring from in SB LIII with the Patriots. The veteran only hauled in 73 receptions for 881 yards and eight touchdowns in 45 games for New England, but he still offers special teams upside.

To date, 2016 stands as Dorsett’s most productive year. In 15 games with a career-high seven starts, Dorsett caught 33 receptions for 528 yards and a pair of TDs with the Colts.

Jaguars Cut WR Phillip Dorsett

The Jaguars are releasing Phillip Dorsett (Twitter link via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com). As a vested veteran, the wide receiver will be free to sign with any club.

The ex-Patriots receiver made two trips to the Super Bowl (including a victory in Super Bowl LIII) during his time in New England. However, he struggled to climb the depth chart, as he hauled in only 73 total receptions for 881 yards and eight touchdowns in 45 games for the Patriots. Last spring, he hooked on with the Seahawks, but lost the year to injury. The Jaguars picked him this past spring, but he couldn’t crack the WR depth chart.

To date, 2016 stands as Dorsett’s most productive year. In 15 games with a career-high 7 starts, Dorsett caught 33 receptions for 528 yards and a pair of touchdowns with the Colts. He’ll look for work as the Jags move forward with D.J. Chark, Marvin Jones, and Laviska Shenault as their top WRs.

Jaguars To Sign Phillip Dorsett

The Jaguars are set to sign Phillip Dorsett (Twitter link via ESPN.com’s Jeremy Fowler). Terms of the deal are not yet known, but it’s likely of the low-cost, short-term variety.

The former Patriots receiver made two trips to the Super Bowl (including a victory in Super Bowl LIII) during his time in New England. However, he struggled to climb the depth chart, as he hauled in only 73 total receptions for 881 yards and eight touchdowns in 45 games for the Patriots. In March of last year, he hooked on with the Seahawks, but lost the year to injury.

His most productive year came in 2016. In 15 games with a career-high 7 starts, Dorsett caught 33 receptions for 528 yards and a pair of touchdowns with the Colts. If he’s healthy, he’ll have a chance to support D.J. Chark, Laviska Shenault, Collin Johnson, and the rest of the group in Jacksonville.
